Title: Explain Your Name
Post by: BobTheJanitor on January 14, 2004, 12:41:53 PM
Why do you play under the name that you play under? Is it of any special significance or did you just pick at random while staring at the ceiling and drooling on yourself? Explain!

My name was chosen in an effort to be anti-l33t. It's supposed to be the opposite of names like Xx$il3nt$n|p3r666xX. Because none of us can stand those people, and I'm just doing my part for humanity. Otherwise, there's no real significance to it. My name's not Bob, and I've never held the position of sanitation engineer.

And the justifying your existence part is optional. Except for you, Lito. Why do you exist? (Grimm is exempt from this part, as he does not exist)

You get to hear the story of my multiplayer gaming life for this one :D

In my MUDs I chose the name Elminstar. This was like... 6 years ago, and I didn't know how to spell Elminster too well :p Retired that name and really generally never played online games. I mean, ######, the only options were crap twitch deathmatch games like CS and Quake2, or whatever. So really I avoided the multiplayer scene. This was back in ye days when games included lengthy, well-made single player content. So I survived. I experimented with Starcraft for a bit, but amongst the 10 billion 'OMG DBZ RP OMG JOINWTF SUPERSAIYANVEGITADBZMAADXXXX!!!$!&!(@*' games and 'BGHv848783.9!!!!! BGHGBHGBHG OMG ALL DAY!', the only game I truely enjoyed was Bunker Wars... I was a god at that game :p

My first dedicated multiplayer game was TFC. I believe the name I used was... Monkeybonk? That might be wrong. I played it for so long though, I think I went through several name changes. Monkeybonk was cleverly ripped off someone else who played Age of Empires with my friend :p. I became fairly proficient with soldier class... and I played TFC until...

Tribes 2, where I bounced around with names. From Monkeybonk, to ShrikeStrike (Piloting fun!), eventually settling on Uranium-235. Well unfortunately Uranium-235 was taken. So being the clever little bastard I am I added spaces around the hyphen. Then I found out generally how much better Uranium - 235 looks compared to Uranium-235. Then I founded the now-defunct Atomic Modding and pretty much started a massive trend among mod-modding (Sorta the equivilent of Half-Life plugins). Atomic Modding consisted of me and Plutonium - 239. Eventually we got more coders, then internal strife and source code leaks tore it apart. Having everything we had worked on publically available, we desperately tried to regroup but it just didn't work. I was too burned out to care about modding anymore. (Didn't even get a chance to finish the Black Dragon Project... the biggest, most powerful weapon system ever put into Tribes, hands down. HERCs had NOTHING on this bad boy).

Uranium - 235... only naturally occuring fissile element on earth. Contrary to popular belief, 238 is non-fissile without complex enrichment (whereupon it turns into Neptunium, then to Plutonium - 239, fissile) Uranium - 232 does exist, but it is turned into Plutonium.

(Just a note, Plutonium - 239 is still around somewhere... I think Atomic Modding might exist in some form, but really, he's failed at just about every 'project' he's tried without me :p)

my name, too has roots in MUDding

Carrionfields or Riftshadow? aynone?

anyway, I had a badass ranger character on a MUD called Carrionfields, and I was part of a cabal called the Sylvans.  I would just lay in wait outside the city gates, camoflagues wearing whatever gear i had stolen ( usually nice stuff, cause noone but noone beats a ranger in the woods)  and i would ambush from my cover, and totally own people...

Now I love playing silent cloaked redeem skulk, and waiting above doorways for 3 or more rines to run through, and then eat them...

I'm a gemini and (I thought) nobody else had the name already =3
Turns out 1 person does have this name (it just didn't turn up on my google search for some reason) but they've not been seen in like 3 years and don't deserve this cool lil name so it's MINE!!! MINE I TELL YOU XD
that and the hotmail account was free ^^

The name before this was actually 100% original, I was the only one with the name on the whole intarweb, buuut I don't like it as much as I did so I moved on =D

The Tale of Anem is long and.. long. Really.
Once upon a time there was a man. But, this man was no ordinary man, he was THREE men. With eyes.. that were like.. little numbers and with crazy names like "Jake" or.. "Jake". Now, these men have no relavance to the story at all.. But yeah.. thats just one crazy name.. I mean, "Jake". Really.
Anyways, there was another man, who went by the name... er.. wow.. I forgot the mans name. Anyways. He use to play Science and Industry under the name "Catric" and he did all sorts of stupid stuff.. like playing Science and industry.. under the name "Catric"... and stuff. Now one day, this man did something that no one had done before. He had got himself a mullet.. but not any mullet a New Electric varaity. Upon such an event he discovered that he should rename himself. Thus he renamed himself "Guy with the new electric mullet" but that was kinda long.. and stupid. So he tried again with "A new electric mullet" but again his name was flawed. So he decided to change his name to "Kerrick" and was never seen from again. Now, meanwhile someone else, elsewhere was all like "Hey.. I have this really cool, name with a bit of an ironic religious tie-in, but I need to shorten it" so his friend was all like "How about the name ANeM? I mean, theres that ironic religious tie-in.. and ANeM sounds kinda like Amen. It makes sense in a weird way" and the guy was all like "er.. Okay"
and Everyone lived happily ever after.
er.. Except Jake.. What kind of name is Jake?

I use to be a Hacker,Defacer, Exploiter,Virus Coder but my favorite thing to do was crack websites.

Ah, The joy. I cracked over 100 different sites in 1 hour. Finding at least 200 passwords for each. Then became white, i emailed sites and told them how to improve and what to fix - I defaced dcshoeco.com because they were using a bugged IIS they never responded to my email so i replaced their index it was down for 4 days. I defaced many other sites and told them about their holes then they started offering me money through paypal. Which is how i opened CrackR0X.com 2 yrs ago(no longer in service).

I started CrackR0X.com as a personal website, i had cracking tools and tutorials but then i also had some CS stuff. Getting Unlimited everything for only 10$ a month, i hosted some guys skin packs. They soon became popular, very popular, It was on PHL,CSNation and some other websites. So i decided to turn into a CS Community, I got over 20,000 visits a day and 80000 hits a day. Over 120GBS of transfer used. I hosted the famous "Fusion Packs" versions 4-10 which were downloaded like 500 times. I also had alot of other shat like models, sound packs, tons of 'skill' videos were hosted along with clips like Miltia1/2.

I started to play NS then after popular demand we moved from a CS Community into HL. Then i started to host alot of NS files DOD,FA ect. Then in the summer i couldnt keep up with it anymore(too many parties to go to every day) so it closed in September 2003.

Nuketheplace, my names mutated over the years.  First let me explain that I was 9 when I came up with this name.  My story is a long one so stick with me.

So one day I was playing Starcraft and I thought to my self "why don't I play on line?"  That was the first time I have ever played a game on line.  Now common since dictated that because I was nine I shouldn't give out my name on the net.  So in order to play on battle.net I had to come up with a screen name and fast.  You remember how you were at nine?  You liked or still like big bombs that make lots of things go boom.  Thats why I liked Terran, more specifically ghosts and their nukes.  If you remember nukes cost a lot of money and had a very low chance of actually hitting their target.  So my dream was to nuke the place.  And my name came out of that.  Now I'm thinking of changing it or shorting it to nuke, but thats kind of unoriginal and its also another story.

well, mines kinda weird, i suppose. but its not weird to me anymore (i've had it 6 years and running)

Its based from the indian (from India, not North America) "Satyagraha" which is a phrase that gandhi used earlier in history, meaning "Soul Force". Such a term was referring to his passive non-violence, but i didn't care about that, i was like "hmm, cool, soul force..." So umm one thing led to another and i decided that the y in it looked stupid, so i changed it to another letter with the same sound, i.  Armed with "Satiagraha", i have been playing HL, Tribes 2, and a host of other games ever since.
By the way, i've only had people pronounce it correctly after many teachings in pronunciation.

Pronunciation Guide for "Satiagraha":
(S-ah)-(Tea)-(Ah)-(Gr-uh)-(Hah)  Each section in () is a syllable and you place the emphasis on the (S-ah) and the (Ah).    People commonly and incorrectly emphasize the the gra and the ha, which is WRONG, so Stop Doing It! :p

ok, i used to play that evil mod called cs under a crappy name which shal go undiscussed. one day i did something ... i forget what exactly it was i did but i, for some reason, changed my name to Black Mage (after the Nuklear Power (http://www.nuklearpower.com) charachter) on a particularly boring jeepathon match, a guy said "do you want to make a clan?" i said sure, and he became "White Mage", jefe and shootbang (you don't know him) joined under the names "Red Mage" and "Fighter" we eventually got a tag [CotM] 'Covenant of the Mages' names after the two cofounders. white mage went awol jefe changed back to jefe after a brief run as monk, shootbang is now shootbang again ... but i never bothered to drop my console down and change my name back. that and the fact that i like the 8-bit theater (nuklearpower == 8bit theater) charachter.

and that is how i am black mage to you now

oh yeah, my old name was something like ... psyk0 ... ugh

this is one of the things i like about black mage: http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=040101 (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=040101)

oh, and if you find me quoting or saying something that makes no sence, it's probably from there ... or it came from the "summoning cube" (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=021019) :p

Hmm, I don't know how long I've had this name. I think I've had it a little over a half of a year. I got it when I used to play UT2003 all the time. I figured that I should have a name that would strike some form of fear into my enemies when I did lovely shock combos. So, since my name doesn't mean I love you or something similar, I thought it would work. I decided that I liked it because it was simple and looked fine on screen. Also, most people don't use it for a name on a forum, for example (or don't know what it means, but that's because they're illiterate :p). So are you scared yet? If so it's doing its job.

Well look at me, I actually have a real-life nickname.

My name was given to me in spanish class sophomore year because my teacher found out I was moving to Kansas City...from California.  And no, this isn't the kind you pick for yourself like some classes, it was given.  I hung around online with this for a year then changed to Red Mage (see Black Mage's above post), then after that died went back to Jefe, then to monk because I was sick of people mispronouncing my name, and then went back to Jefe....again.

And what kind of name is "Jake"?

the only problem with it, is people who doesnt think in this fashion when they see it:

Dirty Harry + Harry Potter = Dirty Harry Potter.

Post by: lolfighter on January 15, 2004, 10:24:18 AM
Besides taking issue with having to justify my existence, here goes:

I got into online gaming rather late, somewhere around the beginning of 2001 I think. Of course, I was drawn to CS, being the cool game everyone talked about (yes, this was thirteenth grade. Back then, CS was still fashionable). I used the nick 'Squid Fizzy', one I had used for years and years in high score lists. It could easily be shortened into intials, the first part fit snug into the games that only allowed eight characters, and it could even be divided into first name and last name in the rare case a game required it. How I came up with it I don't know, kind of random.
Either way, I picked up a habit from a friend of changing my name whenever I played really bad (good for servers that logged stats as well). So I picked 'lolfighter' for reasons that should now seem obvious.
I gave up CS sometime around spring 2002 after it became too boring and repetitive to keep my attention. After brief stints with DoD and S&I, I went to a boarding school for grown-ups in the fall of 2002, which forced me to give up online gaming for the time being (do NOT ask me to tell the whole story, it'd take me hours to type). I'd heard a little about NS, and it seemed rather promising at the time. I was home during the winter holidays and gave NS a try (need I say I was hooked?). Anyways, I'd heard that the game was rather complicated and fully expected to suck for a while, so I decided to forego the inevitable and just pick 'lolfighter' for my nick right away. After two weeks of playing the game it was back to the boarding school until mid-may, since when I've been playing NS seriously. The name just kinda stuck.

Edit: Once more for the slow among us:
I used 'lolfighter' for when I sucked supremely. I was the 'fighter' you 'lol' at. Get it? Fighter you lol at? Fighter - lol? Lol - fighter? lolfighter? Yes?
As for the longer story: No. If you find a method of making YOUR spare time MINE, sure, why not? Otherwise, no. Catch me in the right mood on IRC and I might tell you. Besides, I do not tell this story lightly, seeing how it is a central part of what kind of person I am now.

Nothing Special over here;

I was originally Qwerty, the first 5 letters on the keyboard on the top row, but one day, things went horribly wrong:  It was taken for several fourms and gaming sites etc.  So i had to change it.

Its basically a bastardidation of "Liddo-kun" from Love Hina, if anyone's read the manga, or seen the anime (OMG! ANIME! Lito = GEEK ^_^! )

how it became my nick is even mroe pathetic, however.  Spare me your flames, but we were all nublets once.  And I happened to be a nublet that played anime trivia, and a question came up about Love Hina, and it asked for the name of the doll (which was, for those who don't know, "Liddo-kun"), but the answer was screwed up and turned out to be "Lito", and it stuck.

the two most common ways i've heard it pronounced are: "Leet-oh" and "Lie-to"  I accept both, however i prefer "Leet-oh" and not for the most obvious reason (1337-o, get it? :D !)

Post by: Grimm on January 15, 2004, 03:16:31 PM
Originally I had chosen Necravolvr as my online game, as I was/am slightly obsessed with Magic: the Gathering, and I thought (and still think) this card (http://mi.wizards.com/global/images/magic/general/necravolver.jpg) looks cool as hell. I just dropped out an 'e' near the end, I forget why. I used that name mostly for TFC and other games, and if you see a Necravolvr in a game of TFC, its a good chance its me.

Over time, the name just seemed to get rather old, and it always bugged to have people just call me 'Necra'.

I was part of a friend's TFC clan, and we didn't really do much because it was just a group of friends playing TFC. We used to have a clan member who got kicked out for being inactive for a long time, and his name was Grim. I liked the name, but how short it looks just didn't suit me well, so I added an extra letter to create Grimm. It looks good, sounds good, and slightly hints at my sadistic nature. I've been using it in most games since I adopted it.

I'm still part of the clan with some friends, known as Crimson Guards, and when The Specialists came out, I adopted a new name just to have a change. If you ever happen to see a [CG]Zodiac around, thats me, although its unlikely you'll see me on a TS server (havn't been playing recently). Most of the people that joined our clan call me 'Zod', over voice chat and such, but I don't mind that as much as it still sounds okay.

I have been considering adopting 'Grimmus', the nickname I have been giving by a few of you LM regulars, for any future forums/games/etc. I've never seen anyone with that name, and its generally pretty cool.

I decide to play around with it and didnt wanna screw my stats up (yes at one time i was a stat... well... you know...) so i changed my name... to Mouse. It kinda grew on me...  <_<
Don't feel too bad. I have a tendancy when playing new games that I'm not familiar with to change my name to something like 'n00b13' or 'n00b3h' or 'teh_n00bz0r' or some other idiotic variation of that. It's goofy, but I've got some bizarre fear that, say, people I know from other games are going to come along and see me, you know? And they'll all laugh and say "OMG Bob is acting like such a nub! He doesn't know how to play this game at all! Let's exclude him from all internet related social activities in the future!"

Sometimes I think I have some real problems.

Edit: Clearly I DO have problems, as somehow I didn't realize that I JUST POSTED IN THIS THREAD. Wow. GG Bob. The edit button is your friend. Why don't I just talk to myself all night then, hmm?

teh story of thorax:

When i first started playing online games i never could decide on a name for myself. The names i'd assume usually were just joke names to get a laugh from when you see it. One of the names I had used that i particularily liked was ChaotiX... but hten someone at school came up to me and said, "hey, it's Chaotix!". hearing it said by another person kinda ruined the way the name sounded, so i abandoned it and resumed with the joke names. Then one day, while playing NS (i dont rememebr the version number... it was the one before 1.3 or something... must have been 1.2), I decided to change my name while in-game. I was going throug my head for names I could use, then i started thinking about UT2k3, and how the narrator dude would announce the character names when you selected them. I went through a bunch of names, saying them out loud and trying to imitate the announcer. I came to the bots that had cool names, Cobalt, Corrosion, Syzygy... then i came to Thorax. "Hmm, that sounds cool" i thought. and i changed my name to that. Now, thile i have been using this name the longest, i have taken on a few other names after choosing ThoraX just for a test run. Names like XenohunteR and XenoHybriD, but they never made the cut. I am, and forever will be, ThoraX... no matter how many people say, "WTF is a thorax?" or, "Thor had a hammer not an axe, you nub!"

Obviously those people are retarded because the thorax is, pretty much, THE CHEST.

tho·rax    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (thôrks, thr-)
n. pl. tho·rax·es or tho·ra·ces (thôr-sz, thr-)
-The part of the human body between the neck and the diaphragm, partially encased by the ribs and containing the heart and lungs; the chest.
-A part in other vertebrates that corresponds to the human thorax.
-The second or middle region of the body of an arthropod, between the head and the abdomen, in insects bearing the true legs and wings.

As for me, I picked up this name while reading a website about amazing animals. As I've had to say many times before, architeuthis means giant squid and giant squids are horribly awesome. Also, if you have to ask how to pronounce it, it's ARCHIE.

I only use Architeuthis for FPS games though, practically everywhere else I'm Galinstar, as I've been using that name for years. I am, as far as I know, the only Galinstar around, except for a freaking WASHING MACHINE REPAIR COMPANY in England.

I also used Psychoburn the first summer I discovered TFC.

My name was origionally That_annoying_kid, becuase a group of people would regularly play UT on the schools LAN, and I was a sniper, and in my youth *sighs and reminises* (sp?) I was very annoying, and since I was an excellent sniper, the ::headshot:: sound would echo the room, and people would yell @ that annoying kid, and I guess it had a ring to it, and later I started typing that as th@, becuase I have always found the @ sign cool.

Post by: Smoke Nova on February 11, 2004, 12:39:45 AM
Well...My name has multiple origins.

Originally when I started playing online games, I was Sniper Zero and Soldier Zero.  Named after a short-story I wrote called Project Zero.

Then I got to playing CS, and my name was... *tries to remember* Fallen Knight.  I used that for CS.

Then I got AHL back in like '99, '00.  I was ~Nova~.  Then Nova C-Swat.  Then [DHR]Nova C-swat (C-Swat is named after the ASWAT robot)

Then I played CS again, under the name D.  So much fun.

Then FireArms,  early '02.  Dark Freja and then Red Dragon.

Then NS '02/ under the name Dark Nova.  That changed to Smoke Nova in November when I registered.  It's been that ever since.

Why Smoke Nova?  Smoke = cuz my eyes, in some light, are smoke grey instead of blue.  Nova = Multi-light-year destroyer caused by a sun's death.  Often but not always resulting in a Quantum Singularity.

Post by: rad4Christ on February 13, 2004, 12:09:29 PM
Although mine's pretty simple, rad4Christ means radical for Christ.

Basically I had this name for a long time, named after a teen center I was developing to open that never manifested. The Slogan of the center, was RUR4C? Are you radical for Christ. Basically meant are you willing to do anything to share the message of Jesus Christ with the world. When I started playing online, my nick was jesuspunk, but it started being used, to my annoyance. so I settled on rad4Christ. I wanted to make sure, that, although I'll never cram my beliefs down your throat, you should know where I stad, and that my beliefs are the most important thing in my life, and affects every aspect of it.

The [mmi] tag is my little invention too. I began playing CS back in the EARLY beta, like, 1.0 beta. IMHO, it was much better then. When you died, and the round ended, your guns stayed on the ground for thirty seconds, so instead of buying new ones, we'd all race to get ones laying on the ground and have a fire fight in the midst... ahh, those were the days... Well, I got to be pretty good at it, and clans began to ask me to join. I never liked clans, so I came up with a "clan" tag to get ppl to leave me alone by thinking I was already in one. [mmi] stands for Me, Myself, and I. Pretty simple.

Back in the days before internet i used to call myself "HotShot". Back when all my brother and i would do is play our little crappy dos and windoes 3.1 computers ofer the lan; mostly C&c, duke nukeum, Mech Warrior, and Doom (Those were the days). Soon after I discovered internet chatrooms at my friend's house. Of course HotShot was taken. So i sat and that about what kind of cool name i could use. It had to be something completely origional, while still similar to my old name. So, after much stairing mindlessly at the computer, i came up with a very simple name. i was thinking at the time: "You shoot, it goes BANG".
Title: Explain Your Name
Post by: Forsaken on February 13, 2004, 02:09:05 PM
The origin of my name Forsaken comes from the Action Half-Life mod.  I used to go by the name [Bebop]Ein and yes it was very unoriginal. It was used mainly when playing with the roommates in our little [Bebop] clan.

When I eventually joined an AHL clan everyone gave me crap because [Bebop]Ein wasn't a name that struck fear into the hearts of small rodents or something. So I chose a name that meshed well with the other members who had names such as Preacher, Deliverance, Revelation, Vindication, etc.

I also chose Forsaken because I was a big Wheel of Time fan back in the day before the recent books started to drag on and suck.

Oh yeah... back in the days, my nick used to be F*ckingBullsh*t (don't ask why), anyway, I got bored of it and looked for something new.
I tried to find a cool nick that was absolutely unrelated to CS (which I used to play at that time), since I always chuckled at other people when I saw them having names like 'Dirty Sock' or whatever.
This is how I ended up having this one, and if you feel like it, you can go find yourself an English<->German dictionary and go look it up (though it might be possible that you will not find it since it is a combination of two words, and the first one who will find out where to split the word and what it means gets a double-chocolate-with-alot-of-frosting cookie).

I've been sticking to this name ever since, and I can proudly say that the change was quite a time ago and that this name has been only my second nick that I ever really used.

So sometime later i stopped playing CS and started playing NS.

After a good time i joined a clan,  so in their forums there was the "Post your picture" thread, so i looked for one in my Hard Drive and i only found one taken in a party organized by the school ,  and i was surrounded by 4 senior girls.

So i posted that one, and a guy there replied " FAKE THUMBS UP! LOKE = TEH SLEEK PERUVIAN!" .

So that's how i got my sleekness....and no, you will never be the sleekest, thats me.

Well as for me, I'm sure many of you can take a guess.  My name origionates from my newb days of CS, (which... sadly... continue today) one of my friends said "HEY, I HAVE A GREAT IDEA!  Lets make a CS clan and compete as noobs in the CAL matches."  Well you can probably guess what happened...... yeah ownage.  Well a different friend saw me playing and made the comment that I'm like Kenny; I die every episode.  And the name stuck.

Oh boy...  :o

Way back when AOL was first catching on, I started as CecilDK (Cecil Dark Knight) from FF4. I joined an online gaming club when FF7 came out (hehe, those were popular back then, maybe you remember Avalanche, the RPGA, or the Best RPG Ever = BRPGE boards?) and changed it to CloudSFC (Cloud Soldier First Class).

Then, OMG, AOL expanded to 16 characters per screen name and I became Sage Gaspar (from pretty much every game by the Crono team). If you've seen a Sage Gaspar on the Internet ever, chances are it's me. I published editorials on the major gaming sites and took up a position as a reviews staffer at Games Are Fun (Chrono Cross (http://www.gamesarefun.com/gamesdb/review.php?reviewid=31), Irritating Stick (http://www.gamesarefun.com/gamesdb/review.php?reviewid=25), Mario Bros (http://www.gamesarefun.com/gamesdb/review.php?reviewid=43), Mario 2 (http://www.gamesarefun.com/gamesdb/review.php?reviewid=44)) for a little while. I was also featured on The Way In (http://thewayin.etherealvoid.net/) and RPGamer (http://www.rpgamer.com/editor/2000/q2/050200sg.html) as a moron, a fact which I'm infinitely proud of.

At some point I decided to try out different gaming handles, hence was born Scarlet Phoenix (nothing special), then TK-421 (the grunt stormie in A New Hope that isn't at his post), NSMonkey for a little while (http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=42166), The Blode (http://www.rathergood.com/blode/), and finally ::phew:: Sydney Carton (A Tale of Two Cities (http://www.litrix.com/twocitys/twoci001.htm), one of my favorite books of all time).

I've also been known as Enciel Ilyamorte (a poor conglomeration of French, roughly "In heaven there is death") and Etotheipi (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/EulerFormula.html) (e to the i pi). And yes, I'm a math major, hehe.

Beat y'all, eh?  :)

It depends.  There are two different definitions for "civilian."  The one that applies to me would be "A person following the pursuits of civil life, especially one who is not an active member of the military or police."
But you aren't " A specialist in Roman or civil law" ??

Edit for screwing up grammar in a one line post. I win!

i've had this name for as long as i've played online games

and i go back way back, if any of you remember Turok?

i've also had side names like candyman, darkangel (untill that nasty TV show poped up with the same title)

but i've always used Seth

i guess partly for the unique aninimity that comes with it
and i used it before i saw that crappy girly movie "angels in seattle" or whatever it was called with nick cage and some bimbo

besides what do people fear more then the angel of death himself?

Many have guessed mine, If you've ever watched the old saturday night live, you'd know of this clay charater Mr.Bill, In short, in every skit, he got killed, or just REALLLY heavily injured, crazily, I found it hilarious. (www.mrbill.com)

So when I began playing games, I really sucked, like we all did at one point (yes I know some of you will post "OMG NOZ0R5! I W45 T3h UB3r 1337 47 BIRTH OMGZ0r5!") So I thoguht the name Mr.Bill would go with me pretty well, and it did. Ever since then (which was a while ago) I've been known as Mr.Bill.

except on red alert two... MrBill was alrewady taken and I didnt feeling like MrBill203049385364 So I picked Zoltri, form ym speakers ZoltriXsound (Zoltri I wil sometimes take jsut for fun, I just like saying Zoltri, it has such a nice ring to it).

I'v had 3 nick name my hole gaming life. the first one I care not to tell because well, if you heard it you'd explode from the sheer lameness of it (and yes, I've seen people with it before).

But yeah, usualy I'd have this 1mb big .gif file of MrBill walking around in circles, people can watch it for HOURS.

Mind you not having moderator status on this forum has SORT of made me change my mind about using it, 1mb is kinda much so I made this hwg one.

and I exist, for the soul purpose to eat a whole chocolate cake in 19.2.39 After that I can die and my life will be compleat.

Post by: BobTheJanitor on May 20, 2004, 01:33:58 PM
Golgotha:

The common name of the spot where Jesus was crucified. It is interpreted by the
evangelists as meaning "the place of a skull" (Matt. 27:33; Mark 15:22; John
19:17). This name represents in Greek letters the Aramaic word Gulgaltha, which
is the Hebrew Gulgoleth (Num. 1:2; 1 Chr. 23:3, 24; 2 Kings 9:35), meaning "a
skull." It is identical with the word Calvary (q.v.). It was a little knoll
rounded like a bare skull. It is obvious from the evangelists that it was some
well-known spot outside the gate (comp. Heb. 13:12), and near the city (Luke
23:26), containing a "garden" (John 19:41), and on a thoroughfare leading into
the country. Hence it is an untenable idea that it is embraced within the
present "Church of the Holy Sepulchre." The hillock above Jeremiah's Grotto, to
the north of the city, is in all probability the true site of Calvary. The
skull-like appearance of the rock in the southern precipice of the hillock is
very remarkable.

Mine is rather odd...

No, it is NOT based on kodak cameras, but rather due to an argument I had with my seventh grade science teacher.  Being a rather awesome spelling (but not typing) whiz, i had to say something when he miss-spelled the word Kodiak  on the board.  he spelled it Kodiac, and so it was great......we ended up consulting a dictionary and i won!  but yeah, i actually used it a few months (maybe a year later)  when jjhs (aka mary) and asal hosted their first LAN game at our house.  we were playing DOD, and i took over for asal so he could go get some food, and then changed my name to kodiac.  and everyone was like omgwthh4xbbq! who is this guy!? and i sat in my corner and grinned.  next to the freezing cold basement walk-out door.  (midwinter LANS arent cool)

Cheers to PB, Venmoch, and UKchaos, for I too am a WH40K nerd/geek/whateveryouwishtocallme.  I play Dark Eldar, and have been in a constant losing streak since I started playing six years ago.  But damn, when i win, it truly is spectacular.  I also play empire in fantasy...both my armies are betwen 1500 and 2000 points   ( :: FOUR EYED SMILIES SMILIES EVOLVED :: )

and i got my name from when i used to play BlackHawk Down. I was very good as a medic, who was the class that ran rather quickly and couldnt take much as damage. Anyhow i got the name because of my tendency to get more than 80% of my kills from the knife. In BHD the knife is a one-hit-kill weapon... I was (in)famous with the people i played with for crawling prone completely accross the map to knife a sniper... good times.

Title: Explain Your Name
Post by: EvilLinkz on May 28, 2005, 07:44:25 AM
My name's origin?
Everyone thinks my name is an AOL plural... it's not damnit >_<
I originally played TFC, monikoring myself as an MSN account I made when I was about 10 (I started TFC when I was 12): Linkin Rings... it was a play on my favourite band of the time (Linkin Park) and the Linking Rings used by magicians (the masked magician was on while I was thinking a name).
2 years ago I had (obviously) grown up a bit, and had started to dislike the name of a band I didn't even really listen to anymore, and then I started NS (on PCZone Magazine Official Server) which is, interestingly where I met "twoflow" or "Confidence" as he was then named (Geminosity/NS Forumites know him). People there could not be arsed to call me "Linkin Rings" especially if they typed... so they called me Link. Like the Zelda character I had not heard of by this point. I accepted this alias at first but decided it was too plain, people might just assume I was calling myself an URL. So I looked around to find something to combine it with... my sisters German book was open on colours... I saw "Schwarz" and thought, hmmm how can I combine that and "Link"... you know the rest. So my name is not plural, it's bastardised Germo-English.
Now the Evil part? During my time playing TS I played around on many servers until I found Nashcorp a great place to stay, mainly because after talking to Nashwan himself I learned the server is not 3 miles from where I'm typing now (16ms ping ftw!). I played here for 6 months until I finally met [EA]EvilSoup, who, impressed with my playing, invited me to play with other [EA] members. After a while they invited me in, and I ditched Linkz to be [EA]EvilLinkz.
To prove it used to be Linkz... whois me on IRC... "IamLinkz" :D

And that's my long-winded history of my name.

I use to have "aeroballistic" years and years ago but i had to get e-mail and shorten it to just "aeroripper" because the first one was too long.

Aeroripper is combination of:

1) Aeroballistic: Cheat code in army men i played way back when.
2) Ripper: Name of the machinegun in duke3d, a game i played constantly when 14?  i think it was

Combine them what do you get? aeroripper ... pure sex

SwiftSpear is a random sequence of two words I figured would not have likely been combined by anyone else as an alias.  It's also fairly distinctive and easy to remember even when it isn't full of L33T speak, which was something that was important to me when I developed the name, as I felt as if an easy to forget nick name would be counter productive to devoloping a reputation in new servers I joined and regged.  Now like everyone knows me and I just figure it would be dumb to try to mess with something already so established, even though the definition of the nick name has nothing what soever to do with my personalitly or play style.

Post by: RangerAlpha on May 29, 2005, 09:13:12 PM
Boredom for the post!

Well, my story is kinda-sorta strangish.  For a while i used a different name, or just a random letter, while playing hl or tfc, (those were the days).  And then, CS didnt suck, so i played it for a while.  Well, you know those changeyourname things, someone actually made a clan  called =DS=, where everyone had there name be =DS=Ranger *letter*  Well, me being ten, and being obviously leet and needing a clan, joined.  The leader happen to be bravo, so i took alpha, cuz i was teh alpha ranger with the scout. or something.  Heck, 10-ness ftw.  Then, i decided waiting for the two awp campers to blink and actually discover "hey, im all alone" was annoying, i played DoD and was a regular on the 4th Ranger server, so no one could call me "ranger" cuz then half the server would answer.  (at this time, i was an honorary member of DeLo, which stuck for a while because everyone in DoD called me "delo" and i couldnt change it.)  However, all good things died, and you can only shovel allies for so long on avalance before you get bored [first place with shovel only (everyone else used guns) ]
Then, i played ns. i liked the one server, so my name became [On|E]Ranger alpha[DeLo]  And then people started calling me Ranger instead of delo, so i was allowed to change it.  It was about this time that i decided xenocide was the best upgrade ever, and created a fad clan (10 people put the tag on) of [XenOOO!] (and its original incarnation of [XeNo!!!] or [XeNoO!!], which didnt look cool enough) I left it there, cuz anyone who knew what it meant laughed and it was good.  And hence, [On|E]Ranger alpha[XenOOO!] was born.  And i couldn't add anything else, because that is the hl character limit for names. grr.  So yes, my name is a single tag followed by a bunch of fad names.  And i still like NSPlayaRanger :)

And no, you dont get line breaks. Ha.

*begins the arcane ritual of topic necromancy*

My name comes from my head.  It was a character name that I have used upwards of 300 times in the course of my RPing career, so it's well used.  But Asal Tetharion isn't intimidating enough, and Asal Skulltaker sounds cheesy when you're in a FPS, so I used  a little freedom to make it longer (a four letter named bored me at the time)  Now, I use the end to show what mood I'm in/how I'm doing/to taunt my opponents.
Title: Explain Your Name
Post by: Scuzball on June 04, 2005, 01:01:42 PM
When I fist started playing Starcraft online, I used the name Buzzsaw. A violent power tool, and nobody else had the name yet.

When I graduated to Broodwar and other games, I was already bored of it. The name generation came about like this:

My buddies and I were playing Monopoly while halfway watching some movie. Now, my personal favorite Monopoly move is to set up the reds and oranges. They always seem to work well, but I always end up losing anyway. Right as my friend landed on my hotel'd space, one of the characters onscreen yelled "You damned scuzball!" The name stuck. Used it ever since, across Broodwars, Duke3d, TFC, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, and of course NS.

That is, until I started playing on LM and came up with Hesitation. I asked myself, what kills me most of the time? What's my weak spot in NS play? Bingo. I kinda like seeing "Hesitation killed NSplayer(1)" the same way I like seeing "Curiosity killed Cat." Get it!?

Now I'm back to Scuzball, mostley because I havn't been able to play NS in sooooo long now. C'mon guys, remember last time you saw Hesi-nub on LM? That was the last time I played NS. I'm too far away from a good computer/internet combo to bother trying again. There've been like 2 or 3 balance patches since then... I wanna play so bad...

*cry cry*

By the way, Monopoly is a terrible game.
