Title: NS 3.03
Post by: SgtFury on April 27, 2005, 07:44:13 AM
Just saw this announcement on the NS forums. Has this already gone live on Lunixmonster or is it about to?  :)

Quote
The Natural Selection development team is proud to introduce NS 3.0.3. This server-side patch (end players don't need to update) includes minor number tweaks to improve the damage done by siege bases (reducing the number of strikes needed to kill a hive by 3 siege cannons by 1 blast) and an armor change that should increase the early marine survivability vs upgraded skulks by allowing them to take one more bite. Late game marines will not notice much of a difference.

The Update is as follows:
* +5 armor (each armour level is now +5) for LA and JP marines.
* 380 siege damage. (+50 siege damage from 3.0f)

If you would like to try this patch as we prepare for the final public release check out these servers:

Should make things a little more interesting.

This simply makes the insta-lerk even more powerful.

Na, it just makes insta lerk considerably more helpful, seeing as nothing was buffed for aliens in this patch.

So uninjured marines without armor upgrades take three bites instead of two, correct?

Correct but it can be 2 bites and a parasite.

This should have another very nice effect also, because now there is also a combat reason in addition to the tactical reason to parasite every marine you see.

Wow! This is an absolutely great change. Good job to NS devs! This will so greatly help balance NS, in my opinion. Good job :)

I very much hope that we have a decent run at this new build BEFORE trying the FF experiment.

Well, if all it takes is a parasite to reduce a regular marine to two bites, then I think it'll be a nice change. It should be interesting to try.

so heres my feedback, and ill post something similar in the FF vote thread:
This is an EXCELLENT change. I, as you all know, absolutely suck at being a skulk, which is why i gorge most of the time.  However, for the sake of trying it on for size, played a few games as skulk today and found that the challenge in taking down marines was significantly increased. The time it takes to kill a lone marine has increased considerably and the chance of a single skulk raping a whole squad of rines is pretty much gone. Thanks to the patch, I actually bore witness to three rine wins in a row on LM today, one of which was on HERA! (note that according to server statistics, this should never happen unless you have some cosmic event which would stack everyone on rines vs 8 nsplayers.)  I think this might actually eliminate the need for the FF off trial. Anyway, thats my two cents.

I have to agree with CryForMe, maybe just a coincidence that I saw a few more marine wins.

...or at the very least, it hasn't gotten any worse. Should be interesting to see the long term results.

exactly, so what this means is people will friggin USE PARA. this is great way to kill two birds with one stone! now even if they dont die we have a bunch of helpless sighted rines running around. GOODBYE NINJAS.

This is so frusterating... my computer is dead, and this one is literally too packed with garbage to even install steam...

Tears of sympathy are gladly accepted =__=

It seems today a lot of highly skilled players have come to LM, I assume because of the advertisement on the ns forum about this update. The marines have had way better teams solely because of that, in my opinion. So I wouldn't look at marine wins as an indication of too much.
