Actually April Fool's isn't till Friday.  Either this is badly timed( I doubt it) or its real.  
I still can't believe Devil would do something like that.  Hacking is easy, keeping a persona of a nice guy for over a year and then revealing you true angry nature, thats the hard part.  

I'll admit I liked the guy and whish he wasn't banned, I wish he was joking or somesetup, if it isn't then keep him banned.

The guy in a CS community I used to play with (Blueyonder UK) who kept everyone up-to-date with all the anti-cheat stuff in the guise of being a helpful chap trying to keep the servers safe turned out to be cheating his arse off. I think that tops HD's business.

I am gonna agree with X-S-Z on this one, it seems all to fishy but hey come tomorrow the next couple days if it is true then we can all feel better that we actually didnt get owned by some we all thought was skilled.

greenground, that whole witchhunt idea is exactly WHY i hate hacking with a passion.

A few years ago, i played CS on 26.4k dialup, with 250-350 average ping.  That's a difficult playing environment.  I probably averaged 4-6+ hours of CS a day.  I played like that for 1-2 years.  I got to the point where, once i was warmed up and used to an individual server's ping, could maybe get a 2-1 ratio, perhaps better, depending on the map and other factors.

(edit:  a 2-1 ratio doesn't sound like much, if you've never played on dialup.  If you want to get some perspective, try finding a server with 300 ping, and pulling a 1-2 ratio.  and then try again, because you've still got a long way to go.)

Basically, in a random pub, i would get banned for hacking somewhat reliably.  simply because i was "too good to be legit on dialup."  Extra problematic for dialup, because with a 200 ping possible only in the best of circumstances, the number of servers that can be connected to is SEVERELY limited.


Moral of the story:  Have i ever hacked?  No.  Will i ever hack?  No, playing to improve personal skill is pointless if skill is not used.  Have i been punished unfairly because of hacks?  repeatedly.  Why have i been treated as such?  Because of **** like this here, today.  I agree with 2_of_8's sentiments entirely, pre-edit.

If he does in fact cheat, I feel pretty bad for him cuz he was never THAT good in the first place. I may be speaking for myself, but he's far from one of the best players I've seen on this server. I never had any personal issues with the guy, but he seemed to be everyones idol on here pre-ban and I could never figure out why. I've seen guys WITH walls in CAL play 10x better than that. Maybe it's was because he wasn't an ass in game, at least there I tilted my hat towards him.

the first time i played on lm, HD was there owning everyone and i thought hey this server has a lot of skilled players, and as HD is owning all of us repeatedly, i'll set a goal to get at least on par with him

that and he was never really an ass in game unless u were breaking some rules

that's why i thought he was a cool guy, and playing here so much really has helped me improve.. but this is just..

i still can't really believe it  :(

That's such a contradiction to me. I'm hearing this on many levels. But honestly, even if HD is/was a nice guy, would you really enjoy playing with him, no matter how nice he was, knowing his leet skills were installed?

Nowhere is it stated hackers are bad people. I came to this community at the same time as HD. We actually came here TOGETHER. That said, I don't think I would be able to have fun knowing the reason I died rushing him was an aimbot (***edited). This is a paradox to me. I see 1/4's very emotional posts, and although HD's responses seemed "trumped up" in comparison to the HD I know, regardless of attitude I don't want a hacker in our community. Sorry.

But really people, not something to get TOO worked up on, I remember other players being banned or just plan leaving that I liked, but Im not going to make a big deal about it, because after all, it dosn't actually effect my life.

This website may be JUST the internet,but The server is more than that to me.
It's the only server i play on since i found it. :blink: . The reason being is that it always betrayed itself as being a community, in which has a variety of people with a descent amount of skill, as dark stated(below), Who are here to kinda get to know each other on There differnt playing styles and strategies.

Does seem quite weird but thats prob because it happened so quickly and the last thing you'd expect is someone so anti hack/ teamplayer/ strict admin would would be guilty of such a crime.

Weird though, to think 2 days ago I was playing another mod along side with him.... all those games and such...

I dont see why one would use wallhack in NS, I mean comeon you can get motion tracking or SOF :huh:

If April fool joke, not funny and we are all fools though.  If not, that sure explains a lot.  However, I do have an explanation.  A couple of days ago HD said, "I have man boob :(." Seriously, direct quote.

Because of this, I think that the fact the women are so far from his reach (real women, not the parts of women on his chest) that he needed to make himself the man on LM for self esteem reasons.  Therefore, I propose that man boobs have a direct correlation to hacking.  Therefore, a swift act of Congress can make man boobs illegal.  After this, all man boobs will be cauterized off all men, therefore ridding the world of hackers and boosting self-esteem.  Any foreign hackers will have their countries prosecuted much like Iraq and all man boobs shall be removed.  My reasoning and plain of execution are pure genius.

Actually Sickwill you might be right.  IIRC Holy Devil has a few problems that make him anti social.  He might have used hacks to fit in and gain respect with in a group to have social contact.

However, I still don't really think HD hacks.  As you all know sound can be a VERY valuable tool in NS.  If you a good skulk you will look like your hacking because you know the location of all marines around you.
 
I would also like to see the these videos that prove HD is hacking.  I realize this would lead to people saying that he didn't hack because they didn't see him.  To remedy this situation I recommend that you post the videos in a locked thread and give anyone who posts about them a 7 day temp ban.  Deal with people on IRC as you see fit.  That should solve the problem of people contesting admin's bans while satisfying regs interest.

Ive kept quiet with a few things i thought would have been obvious by now. But im gonna say em. Might sound insulting to certain parties, but seriously. Keep in mind, that although I suck, I have been playing HL mods since 1999 (Hobbit, the creator of cs_office used to live down the hall from me and introduced me to cs before it went public beta) and ive been playing NS since the EARLY days of 1.04. I've also been admin on many many servers and even joined the ranks of CAL admins once upon a time (before i realized that most of them were full of crap teenage wastes of life).
1.) If you take A MONTH to spec someone enough to figure out theyre hacking, then chances are, theyre not. No admin who has "seen enough of em" to know someone's hacking would take a month. And if that is indeed the case, i'd expect to see close to a GB or more worth of demos collected as evidence. If you spec for a month and show one demo as proof, sorry bub, that doesnt cut the mustard.
2.) WALLHACKS ARE INTEGRATED INTO NS! MT and SC anyone?
3.) Rines can be heard even when walking. This is a fact. Due to the set speeds at which rines strafe and turn, footsteps are still intermittent.
4.) The oldest trick in the book (which doesnt get caught by mp_consistency) is to delete the sound files for alien footsteps! This way, you can hear anything anytime without being impeded by the sound of your own motion. It's a very simple process, and i know plenty of clanners who do it and CAL doesnt care!
5.) If he does have wallhax, how would that really effect gameplay considering point #2 that i made? So he can see rines without sens or aliens without mt, sure its an advantage (albeit slight as both teams are likely to get those traits anyway), but hes not immortal, and sure as hell didnt have an aimbot.
6.) Plenty of other things make noise, such as reloads, comms, etc. People also check common hiding spots. I cant tell you how many times ive been a skulk hiding in an obscure ass dark corner and a rine whips around a corner and blasts me...because the spot was obscure to me, not to him.
7.) Last, but not least, he killed an NSPlayer. Someone who hasnt played for long enough to be able to change his name (i was teaching my bro how to play under a different name when HD got banned...i saw the final scores, that NSPlayer was indeed new to NS). What does that tell you?

There was once a time when I thought that certain people on the server used hax. So i spec'd, demo'd and watched the demos in slow motion. I found no evidence. HD was one of those people. And let me clue you in on something that anyone who uses hax will tell you: THEY WATCH THE SCORES! If they see someone in spec, theyre not going to make any moves to make the hax apparent unless theyre pub hopping and dont care anyway. People arent stupid. HD wasnt here for pub hopping. He was a part of the community.
And his comments both here and in IRC? I'D DO THE SAME DAMN THING! Wouldnt you? If you were a regular, a RSer and an Admin to boot, and someone accuses you of hax and then bans you from the forums, irc and the server without giving you a chance to back yourself up? I'd be REALLY ****IN PISSED OFF. So it's completely understandable that he blew up in your faces and told you what you wanted to hear out of sarcastic rage. He was never given his chance. Sentence was passed without appeal before the evidence even came to light.
Before you ostracize someone, make sure you got the facts. Give people a chance to defend themselves. Quit jumping to conclusions and telling someone you hate their ****ing guts and then turn around and say "wait, was it a joke?" Admins are frequently wrong about hax, especially in situations where people are extremely skilled and they surpass the admin's own abilities. Its the "he can do something i cant do, so he must be cheating" syndrome. Maybe this should be re-evaluated by people who arent so quick to judge. Sorry if i offended anyone, that was not the intent, however, it seems that many many people are missing the obvious here.

This further supports the need for demos, pictures, ANYTHING that supports one side or the other. It seems like many people don't believe that the ban was just, that he wasn't hacking.
I myself don't know anymore, with all this confusion. Please, can we have an admin's word here.

The only reason I see NOT to release at least some of the demos is of the insane amount of arguing between the players/admins that will ensue... Simple solution would be to limit it to slotters, under thread of long temp ban if the demos get out to those people who shouldn't have it, i.e. almost anyone.

Why was this post approved (http://www.lunixmonster.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2923), and given their secrecy about the likes of why some people in the past have been banned, why is it publically sitting there in /dev/null.

Look guys, they never release demos, they never have done, anyone who's been banned for hacking with demo proof has never had the demos released. So stop barking up that tree.

However, the fact that HD's PR thread is sitting in dev\null is all the evidence you need to tell you this is a hoax.

Firstly, the PR forum is moderated, that means any post in there requires a forum admin to look over it and approve it before posting. There's no way in hell a 1 line "OMGZ I R HACK" post is going to be approved.

Next, as mentioned above, the replies and locking are near instant after it's posting, take a look at any other PR thread, this never happens.

Also notice how the thread was moved to dev\null after approval and locking. This is clear evidence of the thread existing and HD being banned, so why, exactly, is JHunz beat about the bush in the announcement post when anyone can easy just go to either dev\null or the PR forum and see the thread staring them in the face? Hell, why is there even an announcement about it, unless they actually want you to notice it, film at 11.

Finally, apparantly Vinnie has been accumulating evidence against HD for some time, guys, raise your hands if you've ever seen Vinnie ingame for over an hour in total, i know for one that in my year and a half being a reg here, i haven't.

Guys, get over it, it's a hoax, and a pretty obviously done one too.

I *may* be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember Vinegar Ninja on the server at least a couple times recently in specatator mode... the reason I remember this is because there were times when the teams were uneven, and I remember thinking to myself "join the uneven team, why are you spectating when its 6 on 8?"

Explain the need to have one member of the community so publicly humiliated, for several days without any "lolz it was all jokes".

Explain me why HD came on to the channel under a different name, and spammed the #lm-admins channel password several times.

First off, most PR threads are approved. The one liners with "omg unban pls??" are generally responded with a big "no."

Second off, most PR threads we have to look up who the person is and why they were banned, but there are some exceptions.

Additionally Vinnie honestly is hardly ever on the server, furthermore he wasn't in any of the recent games I've played where HD was on.  So much for constant surveillance over a month.  Haha.
