Hehe, Metal on the list but not Ayumi?  Ayumi is number 2 for me.  But then everyone else seems to hate it for some reason.  :(

Bast = prettiest

Eclipse = best playing

I voted for Eclipse, but it's really up in the air. We'll have to wait for the remade version of bast to finalize before I'm sure. Maybe they can make it into something that plays as well as Eclipse! Kekeke!

I am into ns_marineris (or however it is spelled along with what version it is). It's such a nice change from other maps. Too bad we don't play it more. :(

If I can't pick that, tanith is good along with eclipse. I dig some origin too.

i like origin and eclipse the most but voted origin for a little change in the number of votes for eclipse

I was torn... Hera was good..... having to weld to get through cargo ahhh i remember.... and Nancy when the hive was called noname..... remember getting lost in that for ages.....but for now I got to say Lost.

Some really unique areas like temp control and the weldable siege room. Plus the atmosphere is brilliant and no brightly lit corridors for marines to rampage down....
 :D  :D

Maybe thats it more maps need important weldables to make things interesting.

By Bast do you mean Rotating-Door-Pwn Bast, or Guts-Ripped-Out Bast?

Please note the new Bast is nice, its just not the old one.

lost is "the" map. every hated it in 2.01 because it was so alien-biased. now its like the balanced map around. (because of the changes)

Post by: BobTheJanitor on September 27, 2004, 11:49:42 PM
It wasn't too alien biased, it was mainly a bit too dark, especially MS. Although moving the los res node to beta deck definitely is a plus for marines. Kind of sad, though, I'll miss all the relcations to good old los paranoias.

IT was ME!!!   :D

Its one of those things when something is kept away from you for too long (like Nancy) when you go back it has a silver lining  :D  After lost crashing all the time  it was good to have it back.

Lost still feels like I think NS should feel. Its not a map where marines can rambo as easily as say Eclipse. Means Marines have to fight for it more.

Plus as aliens there are at least a few nodes that feel "safe" to put down.

argh not altair

i've yet to have a good game on altair cause no one seems to listen on aliens whan i'm just typing 'GET TO (insert hive name)" over and over again.

i guess i'll just have to get a mic and pray it works

One of the reasons I used to love Lost so much was the relocatable goodness.  Paranoias was my personal favorite, only because Temp Control was too risky to pull off usually (though I often relocated to the hallway between Temp and Equilibrium).  Turrets on top of those crates FTW.

The worst thing about relocating is that, no matter how often it wins, you'll get double-blamed if you relocate and lose.  A few days ago I jumped into the chair on Bast and had everybody rushing to double.  I screamed at them to relocate to Engine, and eventually got them all to go there, but they were convinced that doing so would mean we would have no chance of winning.  And that was all they could talk about for the first 3 minutes.  We ended up completely dominating... no faith!   :)

Oh, and Dark, no Texans on the voicecomm, read the server rules.

i haven't even PLAYED the new lost. but the old lost was where i honed my commrage and my every cerebral and well thought out RUN AND GUN AND DON"T BUILD TURRETS AND SIEGE AND SHOOOT AND OMG RUN AND RUN ADN GOOOOOO technique.

hm.. i think i might have made up my mind then.

Origin for the win because Cadaver is the man. Although Tanith comes a close second because tommyd is also the man. (re-release ns_delta plzkthnx)

P.S 3.0 beta 5 bast is horrendous.

actually, if i had to pick one, i'd say ns_agora.  I'm not really sure why, i just like it.  I think my gamma got adjusted up a while back though, but i'm not sure.

As much as I really really really don't like the doors in marine start, ns_eclipse is still a very solid map. It isn't so large that it's a pain to traverse for either team, but it isn't cramped so close together that there's no room for movement without confrontation. Two other very close maps are ns_hera and ns_tanith, and the only map I don't really care for on the list is ns_metal.

Yeah, eclipse is good, but too bad they didn't take out the do doors like they promised. :(

Blame Mr.Ben for not making a version that compiled right early enough for it to be released with b5. And if you see him on IRC, be sure to harass him about fixing the vents in veil to be big enough for skulks to fit in. I'm sure he doesn't know about it and would appreciate you pointing it out to him.  >:D

It might not be the best for gameplay, but Agora pwns me.

Ayumi? OVERATED. Gameplay is horrible, the corridors are mostly boring and lifeless... ugh.
Title: Favorite Map?
Post by: BobTheJanitor on October 07, 2004, 11:58:17 AM
Lies, ayumi is pretty. It's just pain on fades and JPs because of all the little details. And it's a bit alien sided. Needs to be updated and have the silly gorges hideout res node removed.
Title: Favorite Map?
Post by: Sancho on October 07, 2004, 01:00:18 PM
Yeah, what bob said...ayumi would have gotten my vote if it had been there.  I don't care that it kills the super overpowered fades or the jetpackers that can get on top of every hive...and even build on one.  It has PLENTY of res nodes near MS, marines easily have a chance even with the vast spread of the map.

I haven't played the new lost, but the old lost was EXTREMELY unbalanced.  Marines have 2 nodes near MS, and no others without a very long jog.  Even with the best comms, they could never win without a relocation...which usually ended in a long and drug out game.  I did love relocating on that map though...especially to the siege room, but now that the glass is breakable...meh.

I'd like to review every map, but I'm not going to.

Title: Favorite Map?
Post by: Grimm on October 07, 2004, 03:45:16 PM
I've had a lot of great games on ns_nothing, and it's the most fun for me to perma-gorge on it. Granted it is a large map, and the elevators hinder movement more than help, it's still very solid.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have ns_ayumi. I honestly don't beleive anyone enjoys this map for the gameplay; It has a few pretty hallways, like the snow between marine start and AE35 hive, and it has the "OGM CATBUS!!11oneleven!" secret room. I think the gameplay is horrible; Marines have too many easily-defendable seige locations outside of hives (A skulk spawning in AE35 has a 0% chance of survival because of that long hallway), movement around the map for an Onos is a pain because of the many small corridors, and most of the vent systems that could lead to a possible ambush location against marines are weldable. Plus, if the marines set up the node in the gorge's hideout and electrify it, they've effectivly cut off movement through that vent for any passing skulks.

I voted eclipse, but I'm not sure why. It just seems to have good games and it looks pretty good. Very within the scope of good NS "Look and Feel". I like all the maps though, it's nice to have so many base maps in the rotation that I don't get so burned out on any one of them. Why quibble too much about best when the average quality is so good, that 10 choices for best map was not enough? Thanks to the LM members involved in the mapping (2 by my very unofficial and ill-informed count) for all the great variety the dev team as delivered for maps! ;)

Mine was either Eclipse or Hera, and one of them got my vote bigtime.

If you're gonna redo the vote at least wait for people who browse a little less often to vote. My second vote would've gone to Lost or Nothing. I think for a map to get my vote they have to have an immersive atmosphere (that comment immediately gives away which map I voted for).

Anyway why isn't Richmond on there ;)
