Title: Risk
Post by: Sancho on August 12, 2004, 01:59:22 AM
www.globalcombat.com

Its a clone of the board game RISK, and its a whole hell of a lot of fun!  This website does a terrific job of setting the game up.  You can play with 2 minute turn limits for a quick game, or up to 72 hours if you only want to log in and make a move once a day over a period of weeks!  You can even play up to 3 games at once!  We really need to get some LM community games going on this :)

Word of warning:  Don't play public games.  Players tend to team up and go game to game letting each other win after annihilating the other opponents.  Not fun at all.

EDIT: Also, if you feel uncomfortable registering with your e-mail, just use a fake one, it doesn't verify! :D

Extra bonus points: Your fellow players can't mess around with the pieces or sneak a peak at your secret mission while you're on the toilet.

Lews: No verbal intriguing and shouting at each other. "You ******, you stole alaska from me! Asia is TOAST, you hear me? TOAST!! C'mon, green army, you sweep up from africa and we crush 'im in the pincers of DOOOOOOM!!!"

Hehe, well, you need someone to play with!  Shout at people in IRC "HEY! WHO WANTS TO PLAY RISK?!" and go play it. <_<

I will most definitely do this later, but I've got too much going on today and tomorrow.

What's the fun in Risk when you can't annihilate people's armies with a sweep of your hand when you lose?

what's the fun in risk if you can't get your dice rolling mojo just right, and keep the 5's and 6's coming like blood from a hemorragin elephant?

btw, if you every play my friend, who has the crappiest luck ever, this really pisses him off.

You gotta love it when a single defender decimates a ten-army invasion force. Always screws up people's planning REAL good. Unless it your invasion force.

Addendum: I shouldn't have shown you two that site (http://www.machall.com/index.php?strip_id=111) I guess...

Happened to me a few times.  My "Ghandi" did a good job at defending India >:D

Last time we played Risk, I kept babbling about The Three Kingdoms and how Zhuge Liang would have handled this and that situation. We ended up with me in north and south america, another player in australia and half of asia, and one player in africa, with nobody really caring about europe. Kinda like the Three Kingdoms. Then the guy in australia and asia attacked both me and the guy in africa simultaneously, and somehow scored successes against both of us (including taking half of north america (I later found out that north america and australia were his mission)). Kinda like Wei. Then I placed an entire round's worth of reinforcements in china and took the topmost territory in australia, causing him to abandon his north-american campaign in order to win back australia. Attacking behind the lines ftw. Thus The Three Kingdoms helped me to my first Risk win ever, about ten rounds later.

3 kingdoms is a very very very long epic novel, for those strategy geeks who think Sun Tzu is too low brow :S

ROTK [Romance of Three Kingdoms], aka Three Kingdoms, is the most popular novel in Asia. Written 600 years ago, it tells the epic of Han Dynasty in China during the 2nd and 3rd century. Sometimes I look at this old story and marvel to see it glow as the time goes by. In video games alone, I know 5 titles related to ROTK.
Since there's no copyright on a book that's 600 years old, you can read or download it on the internet. (http://www.threekingdoms.com/) I've reached chapter 95 or so. For the second time now. :)

And yeah, I have yet to read Sun Tzu's Art of War. It's more like a textbook on war and less like a novel, but it's also much shorter. I really should read it.
