Please pick the one that you desire most:

A ) Winning a game of NS without enjoying it.
B ) Losing a game of NS, but had fun.

notes: I know some of you consider winning=fun, but please avoid giving me that kind of answer. JUST PICK EITHER A OR B

Post by: Necrosis on August 10, 2004, 11:54:50 AM: I went with B, for reasons I've explained before on the NS org forums. In a nutshell, I'd go for higher ping , on a different continent, and wrestle with a reserve slot for an ENJOYABLE game. Win or lose, as long as its satisfying I'm happy.

Natural Selection, a game. Games are for fun, play! have fun! There have actually been many time when I've joined a game in the last minute or two and our team wins and I didn't even get to do anything. That sucks. It's really disappointing and annoying for you to be just starting when things are just finishing.

Post by: Malibu Stacey on August 10, 2004, 06:00:46 PM: played a game last week on tanith where an NSPlayer went comm, built 2 armouries in the exits from marine start & then left. I went comm & we lasted over 1/2 an hour and managed to kill a hive and plenty of Fades & Onos (Isamil died twice as Onos :D ). After the round ended, even though we got stormed by 3 hive Fades & Onos and got totally slaughtered I was still congratulating my marines because they did a brilliant job. Probably one of my most fun & most memorable experiences commanding in 3.0 even though we got utterly thrashed. As long as people don't give up the game is always fun and you never know what will happen.

So yeah I voted B.

Never say die.

Post by: EmperorPenguin on August 11, 2004, 12:29:58 AM: Definitely B. Think about all those crazy relocates you've done, and how they always get you killed and yet you enjoyed the game anyways.

The most memorable games are either the close epic ones, or the completely silly ones (relocate to ns_bast pit of dewm, hide and go seek)

I suppose they are two different kinds of fun. Tension and challenge vs. absolute silliness.

Some of the best times include running away from onos with Bill yelling "OH GOD OH GOD" into the mic repeatedly. Just leaves you laughing, and you never care when you die.

Those are the games that are fun, if you win those, by just doing a bit more effort than the opponent team, it's even better.

the world will never know, like how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop? and yes, i know, Mr. Owl is supposed to know, but i knew him, and he was an idiot with a flair for wearing stupid hats and glasses (the goof had 20/20 vision).

Post by: bunny on August 11, 2004, 07:49:31 PM: deffinately a b for me, i remember one game, we knew we had lost as rines, so mr bill goes ahead and turret farms the HELL out of MS, and i mean turret farm, we lasted up to round 45 mins in that one room and killed around 2 onos and a few fades, granted we died, but it was one of the best games ive played so far. :lol:

eh i don't think every game is fun cause there have been a few games where i've been on the winning team only to have no fun at all due to idiots, lamers, and griefers. granted that was on a different server where the admins didn't give a care

Of course people are going to chose to have fun... but you get abosolutly no useful data from asking the question, as you don't adress nearly any of the issues involved in the having of fun, and the winning of games.

well I agree with you, but there are some people out there who just want to win and blames the whole team or other people if they lose. To me, playing with those people I will try helping him to achieve his goal (winning the game), so he/she will shut their mouth.

I hate people who complains about the comm and no skills to back it up. Those people take the fun out off everything.

And I know why its so angering. Because Losing on Alien is heartbreaking because you put in all that time and effort into dropping RT's chambers, hives, etc. Getting your team in order, finding out who's doing what and going what. and then.....

All of that just to have your hive Killed by a few Shotgunners, Or to sit and try to break the inpenitratible walls of a well defended Seige Base.

Its like building a wonderful sand castle only for it to be owned by a giant title wave, Or fat kid missing a diving football catch and landing straight into it.

But on Marines, you simply just take the weapons, hold E for 15-50 seconds to get some buildings up and follow your waypoints. If you get pushed back who cares? Last stands are quite fun for Marines.

I myself have never commed, but it similar to what Diablus was saying, you put so much time and effort into it only to lose.

The curse of the permagorge. There really should be a teleportation feature in NS, when a gorge calls for help, any player can teleport to his position.

Those of you who take the game seriously enough to absolutely hate everyone who isnt godly at the game, i CANNOT understand. Winning or losing, i will try and MAKE you have fun, even if theres no hope. But thats what i try to do. Cant change you others out there, and i wont try.

Side note: Losing as aliens can be extremely awesome. I remember a game on bast, marines took all the res right off the bat, and secured feed and engine. (refinery was our hive). they tried to seige, and we beat them off. At this point, a kind of Alien Cornamndo appeared. I cant remember who it was, but we ALL listened to him, and we beat off four seige attempts against heavies, jps, etc. The final insult was the lmg rush that killed us. :angry: ah well. It was fun, and we lost.

You get the whole feel of doom as everyone flees marine start and tries to scratch out a living on their own, with the comm frantically dropping CCs in every corner that has even the hint of a shadow at midnight. Fun stuff.

WTH is a 'cornamndo'?

Well, to me amndo sound kind of like a spanish guy or something. You know, the great Amndo, he fights with teh bulls and does all the great spanish things... I guess you could somehow genetically combine him with corn, but it would still be really wierd, and I have now idea what it has to do with NS...
