Title: Anime!
Post by: Lightning Blue on December 15, 2003, 12:44:08 AM
Esuna's sigs got me intrested in this, what do you call it, genre?  :help:

Only Anime I've seen before this is the random stuff on the Action, Encore, Love, etc channels that I used to get with dish network. I think I can remember Bio Hunter and Armitage Dual Matrix.

So I hopped over to ebay, got the wallet out (), and walla:

I hope to enjoy them, and here is what got me all excited: ( esuna)

Images of space tentacles, begone from my head. Begone. Begone! BEGONE I SAY!
Argh...
Ok, so I read Hagiwara Mangas. Crucify me.

Hmm, tough decision... If I could completely remove the phenomena anime and manga from space and time, my sister would probably not bail out on Europe. But then again, I'd miss anime and manga. So tough decision.

I'm eagerly anticipating Last Order by the way. Anyone else?

Mmm.. Chobits. I really have to see the rest of that one day. Good choice though. While I have only seen like two episodes, I have a good number of friends who are at the point of forcing other people to sit down and watch it. (Which is why I've seen two episodes  ). Chi goes shopping is a good episode. Can't help but smile at the thought of a girl walking down the street repeating "Underwear" over and over again.

How about a perfect being saying "multipass" in a funny accent?

Evangelion is a must. It's one of the most well-known anime out there.

the shirow collection is interesting; the appleseed and black magic movies are dire, but ghost in the shell and tank police are great stuff ^^
Don't know anything about gundress though =o

Definitely get trigun if you can and maybe cowboy bebop.  If you like severe mind games get serial experiments lain and perfect blue.  I'd recommend the outlaw star series just because it rocks and anything and I mean anything by studio ghibli.

One oddity you should definitely pick up is interstella 5555, it's the anime movie of the daft punk album.  You might've seen parts of it used for individual songs from daft punk; it features green/blue people playing tunes and getting kidnapped and stuff.  There's no dialogue but it's definitely something i enjoyed watching and I'd recommend to anyone =D

Hmmm....I think you're mistaken.  It seems to me that a certain 'Lightning Green' won the auctions.....

Yes, this is when you go home and cry.  I'm sure it was close, but this "lg" apparently is the better competitor.

My condolences, lb.

Err....anyways, I don't know crap about anime.  Basically all that I know is that the Berserk series rocks so hard that it makes me want to cry. :)

When I registered on ebay, lightning_blue was taken, so I had to use my backup color :(

It's all good though.

Hate to tell you, but that calendar's a fake. The 2004 Masamune Shirow calendar is called Japanesque, the image shown for the that 2004 calendar is actually one of the images from 2000's "Millenium" calendar, If i recall correctly.

As to the DVD's, The Masamune Shirow collection i'm positive is illegal. There is no possible way you can fit "Appleseed, Black Magic M-66, Ghost in the Shell, Dominion Tank Police, Gundress" all on 2 DVDs. I can guarentee you they will be of a sub-standard quality.

The Chobits DVD's i will entirely advise against buying. Notice how it says episodes 1-24. Chobits has 26 episodes and two special episodes, you aren't getting the whole series. Again, they're bootleg DVDs.

I mean, if you're not bothered with them being bootlegs, sure, pay for them, but personally, if i'm paying for a DVD, i want to be paying for a legit one.

*EDIT: Also note, eBay is notoriously bad with fakes and illegal DVDs. While they are a lot cheaper, they're very rarely of the high quality you expect of DVD.

Sorry to be a killjoy, but if LB isn't aware that he's buying dodgy DVDs, then i feel he should be.

As i said on IRC just now, it's a sad state when it's easier to find bootleg anime DVDs than it is to find legit ones.....

Yeah. Inf was kind enough to point out the pirated DVD thing.

The Calender looks like a US version, made by tidemark :p

I'm going to buy them, and see what I like, and buy legit from there.

Last Order, anyone? ANYONE at ALL? No? Blah...

Edit: Just remembered a series that's supposed to be great, but which I have never actually seen: Those Who Hunt Elves.

Supposedly, it goes something like this: Group of normal people get thrown into a fantasy world on accident. No problem, this priestess knows the spell to send 'em back. Unfortunately, the martial arts guy among these people keeps blabbering, so when she tells him to stfu while reading the spell from the scroll it's written, the incantation borks. Scroll is suddenly blank, words are imprinted on elf backs all across the world. Drat. Much hilarity ensues while hunting for the words, usually of the type:

Martial Arts Dude: "Hey, Hot Elf Chick, take off your top, I want to see your back!"

Hot Elf Chick: *blinks* *screams* *runs away*

Other Dudes: "Dammit, not again!"

So, anyone seen it?

Edit2: Was the above coherent at all?

It ran on food and sleep, if i remember right. I have both series 1 and 2 of Those Who Hunt Elves.

At first it's quite cool, but it gets pretty average as it goes on.
