yeah so I installed beta 4 and I go to connect to a server but they all ping over 2000 so I can't get in?  ...  I tried removing every version of NS from my system and installed beta 1 then beta 4..   still no workie..  any suggestions?   :(

Check your rate
Check cl_cmdrate and cl_cmdupdaterate?
Check any of the cl_ variables that have rate in them :)
Make sure your fps is at a good level
Turn off 32bpp graphics + High Quality Particle systems

Install b1 -> b3 -> b4. The b4 installer may be totally borked. Also 2000 ping usually means you can't talk to a server at all, that's just where the ping maxes out. Anything in your firewall/router config that would be blocking it? Got zone alarm installed, for example?

eh that wouldn't make sense for my router to be blocking when I can play any other HL mod and not NS..  very very weird, i'm going to try and find a copy of B3 and install them all again.

yeah well installed 3b1 3b3 then 3b4..  still doesn't work..  NS hates me, its official  :(

Check for software firewalls. Each HL mod has to be configured individually for zone alarm for some odd reason. Not sure if you're running anything like that or not. ZA or the built in winxp firewall or even (UGH) norton internet security...

XP firewall is off, and I don't have ZA installed on my system..  so I dunno ...  I don't want to spend 8 hours of my life reinstalling steam  :(
