well, the first thing I"m curious about is how many people use motion tracking/scent of fear -- I never got em but I'm starting to think I'm in the minority. as an alien I relied on hiding and listening to footsteps to figure out how many marines are where, and as marine, I feel like the stealthy aliens move too slowly and hide too well to be picked up on MT anyway, and the loud fast aliens are simply easy to spot.
here's my usual marine setup, if I expect the game to be long:
armor1>weap1>shotgun>resupply>armor2>jetpack>weap2>weap3
that's what I do if I expect the match to be long and drawn out, anyway -- designed purely for speedy hive destruction. if we're getting overrun with superskulks, I may get mines; if we need repairs I'll get a welder, etc...
alien, I generally do focus>celerity>fade>adren>cara>regen>silence
unless I join late and we're getting raeped, in which case I'll just be a xeno whore, or if the hive needs heals I'll go battlegorge/umbralerk.
but yeah, I'm interested in tweaking my co_ layouts, so what do you pplz aim for?

Uh Me?
Welder (Only Person With One Usually) > Armour 1 (Stops that damn Focus) > Weapons 1 > Save > Nade Launcher (Unless another 3 people have it then an HMG) > Then its kinda up to how the game is going.
-
I usually go armour 1 >mt > wp1>armour2> shotgun>? > jetpack or ha> wp2 >armour 3
-
many builds ahoy:
knife - armor3 catalyst hpack mt ping welder and a free point for whatever.
jp - armor2 jetpack shotgun resupply then gl if they web me
basic - armor1 hmg armor3 resupply weapons3
gorge - regen adren bb web celer cara focus sof
lerk - adren celer cara umbra regen focus scream
fade - celer cara meta adren regen, focus or spit depending if they have jps and your skill level
onos - cara celer regen, focus or adren depending on your mood
-
weap1 -> shotgun -> arm1 -> weap2 -> arm2 -> support upgrade -> whatever is needed at the time
-
it all depends on my mood, and what is going on <-- thats marines
but on aliens I usually don't touch lerk or above, and just stay superduper skulk or gorge to heal if needed.

Pretty standard marine layout. a1,w1,sg,a2,jp,kill hive. Other points are for various toys as needed or w2,3. Welder if CC is hurting, ping if there are cloakers pwnz0ring me, etc. etc. That's one of the problems with co at the moment. This layout is so standard I can't think of any way to improve on it. The shottie and the JP are so horrendously overpowered, that I feel silly taking anything else. Although if there are LOTS of big lifeforms showing up, I'll grudgingly take an HMG, although I hate doing that since it makes hive killing so much slower.
On aliens it's usually next ability, save save save, gorge, fade, adren, regen, cara, then other toys as needed. If the other team is showing a lot of skill the adren and regen will come before the fade. But usually I can manage to survive as a vanilla skulk with nothing but leap for long enough to save up at least two and a half points, then just gorge on the hive and heal the hive to get that last point.
Co is just too repetitive. Maybe I should try HD's game of assorted builds and stop trying to be WINNAR every game, and just play around.
-
2nd hive ability - focus - 3rd hive ability - regen - gorge - adren - scent of fear - whatever
i use leap+focus for a while then add xeno, then later become web gorge
WEB FUN!!! >:D
on marines i'll go
armor 1 - weap 1 - resupply - armor 2 - save - jetpack - shotgun - whatever
i don't know why i never get motion tracking, maybe i should start.
-
armor 3 weap 3 shotty dam3 whatever
-
k so I'm glad a couple ppl go for high damage shotty/jp like me...
no answers about scent of fear and motion tracking -- I guess people really DON'T use it :>
-
I find motion tracking extremely useful, and when I go alien scent of fear is my best friend.
Best thing to be is skulk with celerity, focus and sent of fear, you cant lose with that B)

MT and SoF are quite useful, but not as useful as the other upgrades. When a L3 shotty can take almost a quarter of the hive's health in 8 shells, and I'm looking at weapons 3 or MT, I'll take w3. It's all about budgeting your upgrades and getting the most useful things first. I do occasionally spring for SoF/MT in really dark cramped maps like kestrel, but otherwise I just use my listen to their footsteps h4x.
-
I rarely go for the hive at all in co, I prefer to just shoot at thing for practice. So its often MT/L3HMG/L1Armor and whatever I want to add to that like Catalysts or Mines.
My favorite co build of all times though involves hax :
Hit tilde, then type disconnect. Wow, co rocks like that.
-
as alien
leap -> xeno -> SoF -> carapace -> celerity -> everything except redemption and focus
-
Marines:
weap1>shottie>armor1>armor2>jetpack>resupply*>welder*>GL
*resupply and welder are sometimes flipped (depends on whether teammates have welder or not)
Aliens:
3rdAbil>focus>gorge**>fade**>regen>adren>carapace>SoF
**I save up til 3 points then go directly from gorge to fade (unless the hive needs healing, then i'll gorge, heal, then fade)
-
meh it all depends on what i feel like doing, but here is how it ends up happening the majority of the time
marines
a1>d1>shotty>a2>_>jp>d2>d3*>welder*>resupply
*depends on if team has welder or not
aliens
cara>celerity>regen>adren>_>_>fade>silence>sof>focus*
*i hate getting focus early on unless i just feel like it

Weaps 1 > Shotty > GrenLauncher > Resupply > Weaps 2 > Weaps 3 >Armor 1 > Two points for whatever I feel like. This config usually works best on non-Friendly Fire servers due to all the nade spam I have a blast with.
Alien side, it depends on my mood. If its a relatively small game:
Silence > Celerity > Scent of Fear > Carapace > Adren > Gorge > Lerk > Usually Next ability x2
Sometimes I go onos with Celerity, Cara, Regen, and Redeption.
Ubergorge, I always get Next ability x2, Adren, Celerity, and whatever else helps at the time.
I do find Scent of Fear infinitely useful, I can always prepare for incoming assaults, and I know when a good time to attack marine start is. Motion tracking is good also, and Area Scan especially if nearly half the Kharaa have cloaking.
-
1) Save
2) Save
3) Gorge - Fade
4) Regeneration
5) Hive Two Abilities
6) Carapace (Or Adreneline)
7) Adreneline (Or Carapace. At this point I'm getting dozens of kills so who cares)
8) Celerity
9) Silence
Sometimes I'll mix up my upgrades, maybe take silence instead of carapace for fun.
1) Armor 1
2) Damage 1
3) Shotgun
4) Resupply
5) Armor 2
6) Save
7) Jetpack
8) Pwnage
9) Who cares?

I find that later in the game, after everyone else gets lvl 2 armor with jp/ha, I seem to be a lesser target for the focus skulks/fades, so I tend to have a bit more freedom/be a bit safer do bring my destructive reign as long as I travel with a group.
Sometimes I'll go straight for weaps 1 > shotgun > grenade launcher to deal with swarms of skulks early game, if I can get the experience fast enough.
-
if ff is off, and i feel like a pyro
w1->shotty->gl->w2->a1->resupply->a2->w3->either ping or mine (a3 if we have pings/mines)
