Title: No Sound
Post by: Leaderz0rz on January 27, 2004, 10:45:16 AM
I haven't had sound in ns since 3.0e it works in 2.01 and every other game/halflife mod etc.. I posted in the constie forum awhile back and got a bunch of rubish replies, i e-mailed ns team no reply, i've uninstalled ns like 8 times. Its obviously NS 3.0 problem and not me, if everything else works.

AMD XP 1800+
ePOX 8rda+ nFORCE 2 motherboard
1 gig of  Corsair DDR-SDRAM PC3200
Radeon 9700 PRO on Catalyst 4.1s
Audigy 2 ZS on UPDATED drivers.
Windows XP SP1

Direct X 9.0b ?
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx)

Obviously the devs changed something about the way that sound was handled, even if it was very slight, and found it unimportant to mention to anyone. I'm assuming that perhaps whatever they did requires later directx, although how anything based on the half life engine could require late gen dx drivers, I have no idea.

maybe it's a cvar problem?  I know there was some cvar to turn off sound in general but I forgot it...

Attach your config.cfg and I'll take a look at it.

I'm guessing none of the later betas have done anything to help it along? I'm really at a loss. If the volume is up and you get just nothing... Argh. Jump on IRC and bug me about it. We'll get the whole channel working on the problem.

A different type of lost sound:

Imagine all the music that has ever been made that wasn't recorded. It isn't actually 'lost' because it effected the environment (eg, atomic indentation on stuff) (mental influencing of people too). But still, I bet there were some wicked mayan jam sessions!!

All I can suggest is to just reinstall NS, try earlier drivers for your sound card on it, or tweak the settings in NS (the sound settings).
