Actually, having schooled (and by schooling there, also lived, and interacted with people from all over) in Singapore, English is NOT the "native" language, though it can be, pending on where in Singapore you were born/raised. The official languageS of Singapore are: Chinese, Malay, Tamil, AND English. From my experience, the most commonly used ones are Chinese and Malay. You're right about what singlish is though.

Also, I was an ESL student once too. You'd never think that though, would you? ^_^
