Title: New Mouse
Post by: Niteowl on January 16, 2005, 12:30:59 AM
So I got the logitech MX500 for CHEAP at futureshop today (15 bucks until the 20th if you are near one, can't go wrong! :) ) . And hot DIGGITY, you can really tell the difference ! That and a snazzy mouse pad (http://www.allsop.com/product.asp?cid=18&p=27814) i've had for a while. It's actually.. hard to explain, it's a textured hardtop surface, really makes the mouse glide over the surface.

In short, I have no excuse for my crappy aim anymore, which sucks, but the mouse is more responsive, which is rad!

Excellent choice, I use an mx510 and it's one of the nicest and most comfortable mice I've ever had. You'll love it. That's an interesting mousepad too, but im not going to give up my TSA mousepad anytime soon. :p

I used to use a mousepad that looked exactly like that..
I got sick if it, it took to much force to get the mouse to move.  I don't use a mousepad anymore, just my desk.
Blue MX510 by the way.

Since we're talking mouses, I've a noob question. Whats mouse accel, and does it help gaming?

Post by: 2_of_8 on January 16, 2005, 08:50:11 AM
From what I've heard, mouse acceleration means the quicker you move your mouse, the greater the distance it will move. Moving it slowly for 10 cm would be the same as moving it quickly over 5 cm, or something like that. I don't have it on, and I'm doing good :) I think this is only a good option for desktops with limited space.

I never understood all this hullabaloo about fancy mice and mousepads and even those little super-slidey things to stick on the mouse.
I just use plain ol' 5-button optical from mircosoft, and I just use it on my desk, no pad, and I've not had trouble with it.

What's the difference between a MX510 and a MX500?

Post by: Isamil on January 16, 2005, 12:39:32 PM
Well the MX510 comes in red and blue and I think its more precise.

Most gamers HATE mouse acceleration.  The point is because it is counter intuative for where to aim.  You know how much distance you have to move to turn a certain amount, but with mouse acceleration, if you move that distance faster, it will turn MORE.  So your aim could be that much more off. It works really well in desktop settings, but in gaming, has no place

mouse acceleration is god awful, cuz the pointer still moves even after you stop moving the mouse.. at least thats what it feels like to me :/

MX510
800-dpi sensor
5.8 megapixels
track up to 15 G's of acceleration

MX500

G? As in gravity? Who'd need 10G? You go unconscious at six or so unless you're in pretty good shape.
Title: New Mouse
Post by: Legionnaired on January 18, 2005, 09:54:14 AM
Yes, but you can move your fingers and parts of your body faster then that. G-force is just a measure weighted acceleration. The only reason you pass out at 8 gs and die at 12 is because the force of gravity overcomes your blood pressure, and blood flow to the brain is reduced a good ammount.

1 m-Kg / s^2 is equal to 9.807E-03 Geforces.

943 m-Kg/ s^2 is equal to 1 GeForce.

Meh, it's no fun when you go all serious like that. Does finger movement REALLY exceed 10G?

Too bad drubo, razer mice can allready do that and they dont look like ^^ :)
Title: New Mouse
Post by: Legionnaired on January 19, 2005, 09:59:35 PM
That seems like it would throw me off more than it would help.

As is, I see an enemy x distance from the crosshair, and I know at 5.33 sensitivity I need to move the mouse y distance across the pad to aim at him.

With that thing, you'd have to regress the aim in your head, constantly thinking about moving the pointer towards the target, stopping over it, then pulling the trigger. Too much thought, it'd totally kill your twitch.

No thanks, I'll take my 500mx.

I had a choice, I chose red because it goes better with my comp an mousepad...

I might have chose blue had I known they are so rare...

I couldn't decide red or blue.  One of the guys who worked there walked over and said "Wow we have the blues in again?"  So I picked blue.

Good choice. Otherwise you would have been thinking:

"Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE mouse".

quoting the matrix is soooooo.. last minute nec. it's all about constantine now. funnily enough, this incarnation of constantine sounds like a slightly goofy surfer dude. wait a second.. is it just coincidence that it's being done by keanu!?

man, that guy should stick to shooting stuff and not saying much.

Trackball mice arent made for gaming
sure it has five buttons, which are nice (I can do a proper lastinv now) but it aint worth a dime if I cant control where I look

Damn you trackball, damn you  :(

one or two of our regs uses a trackball to play NS. They do about average too, IIRC.

Post by: BlaqWolf on January 24, 2005, 08:21:39 PM
i've played quake 2 with a trackball at school before. it's really not that difficult, and i think if i used it enough i could get good with it. i've heard of ppl actually preferring the trackball over mice for games and stuff.

dunno why tho. i love my mx510 (and i love the red as well... adds that sexy sheen to it  ;) )

I have a Trackball optical 1.0 with five buttons and a mousewheel

I think I just need to get used to this fella, cause I just came rather suddenly form a three button logitech mouse (not optical, but you move it around.  It broke  :( )

black with a red ball and red lights  ^_^
