Title: The Kids!
Post by: Legionnaired on December 09, 2004, 05:03:29 PM
Alright, so a lot of you have complained about the little kids in the background whenever I'm shooting my mouth off.

The computer I use is in the family room of my house, and my mom does day-care in the mornings. Hence, little bastards running around behind my until around 5.

At night, you'll hear the TV, and see such shows as fear-factor and West Wing depending on who in my family is watching it.

So there. Lets not complain about the little bastards on my mic arguing about the N64. I have to deal with them too.

Lies. You know it's just all your offspring. If the ladies could just keep themselves off you for five minutes, you wouldn't have fathered an entire generation of Legionnettes.

I thought you were mentioning YOUR rugrats :p

Quit yer whining and give yer mom a hand.  At least move the computer to a less public place, that way you aren't a distraction to them and vica-versa.

MY KIDS? Good Lord, I'm not even legally allowed to make the damn things yet.

And there's nowhere else I can really move the computer to. The rest of the family uses it too, so it's fine where it is.

it's not good to have a comp in the family room if you're always typing with your left hand ^^

They yell for help because George likes to throw his controller. At people. And the cats.

You should jimmy up a mic thingamajigger. Here's what you do, MACGYVER STYLE! Take small paper cup. Cut it down to a reasonable size to fit close to your face. Cut a band down one side to slide the mic in. Tape. Duct tape if you want to be manly. VOILA! less abberrant environment noise, just the silky smooth stylingz of Legionnaire without the LADAYS and their illegitimate offspring ruining the gameplay.

@Legionnaired: If you have the cash buy a set of headphones + mic, no more hearing lil' kiddies arguing over who gets to play as Pink Captain Falcon but more importantly: you'll look the mustard!

The thing is, I could buy a headset, but I have a rockin pair of headphones now that  drowns out the noise from the little bastards almost completely.

If you have any recomendations for a product that covers the whole ear, is padded to reduce ambient noise, but also has a mic on it, I'd be greatful.

I bought a set of headphones with mic from Tekheads about 1 year and a half back, if it's not these then they're very similar.

http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=603139 (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=603139)

Also their Lucky Dip (http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/luckydip) looks pretty sweet. Pity I, A: Only just found it, and B: I'm broke!

As for the headphones I was having some trouble with the mic but then found out that my drivers had somehow been set back and I had to find the new ones. After that it worked again perfectly. There's a little fiddling around with NS and Windows mic controls that needs doing but then it works fine. A nice extra is that there's a clip for the mic lead so you can fix it to your collar (or clothing etc.) so that the leads not always pulling on your ear or being generally annoying.

The headphones themselves are pretty good, offering total immersion as they virtually cover the whole ear (without actually surrounding it). As such if I were in the position you're in I'd probably be 200% more immersed in NS.

The only problem with Tekheads might be the postage to the US. You'll have to check for yourself if you're interested.

Altec Lansing AHS502 (http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=AHS502)

That link is the only headset you'll ever need.

I've heard Sennheiser's line of headsets are quite good:

Those all look pretty nice, but I'll have to wait until these current ones die before I move on up to some seinheisers. Christmas gifts and all.

Such a long cord. Far too long. I wish it were shorter. My experience with the volume control is that it's only useful for muting the headphones, not for regulating the volume. It may be a malfunction in mine, but they severely affect the high tones when I turn down the volume.

I`ve got the Plantronics Audio 40 model I think and they are very good headphones, makes killing skulks so much easier. The long cord comes in handy, when you need to chuck your cat out of the room  :D No padding on mine though.
