Theres a way now to play old classic 1.04 Natural-Selection on steam. Go idle at #classicns on gamesurge for info or just go to this site http://www.brywright.co.uk/nsforum/index.p...t=ST&f=4&t=1186 (http://www.brywright.co.uk/nsforum/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=1186)
Maybe we can even get a server up for classic Natural-Selection.

Anyways here are the steps i learned to installing it.
1) Go to the site above
2) Download the installer (DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PATCHES)
3) Install It
4) To play it you must run Switch.bat in \Steam\SteamApps\youremail\half-life
what this does is it switches from 3.0 to 1.04 so you can't play 1.04 when your playing 3.0 and vice versa. Just make sure whenever you want to play 1.04 just run that and when you want to play 3.0 run that. All it does is just switch the fmod files or something.
5)Backup your original NS folder

My old buddies at clancf are planning to host a game tommorow, So if you want to play just go to #classicns for game time and please idle #classicns to support it.

in my post, it was completely serious. jp/hmg rush, the reason NS went to 2.0.

Or to cut directly to the chase: What are you guys going to do about jp/hmg rushes? Since 1.04, teamwork has become more important for marines than before, meaning that they've become better at it. That'll make jp/hmg rushes even more potent, as the marines will have little trouble holding the two or three resource towers required to pull it off before the second hive goes up.

1.04 saw victory rates of above 90% for the marine teams in clan games. Clan games almost always tied at a 2:2 score (two maps, each clan on each side once: two wins on marines, two losses on aliens). How are you going about this? Banning every commander who drops a jetpack?

Hmm, it seems lolfighter has a point, but you can always say: "No JPs." And it is just on one server, so it won't be hard. And not everyone knows about it (so there won't be a flood of people playing).

Aaah teh memoires!

Being spawncamped in Eclipse was such hell for the rines back then. In my nooby days I just used to crouch in the shadows and wait for a gunman to die!

1.04 rocks, only thing that i hate about it is its lack of decent minimap :/

btw, welder = flamethrower in 1.04 seriously. i cut through a fade in under 10 secs .. as these screenies illustrate :)

and lastly, babblers. they rock. so much, even if theyre crazy dumb skulk things that bounce around the room, theyre still hilarious

oooh! now will be a great time to take screenies for posterities sake, those weird 1.x things, like non aligned skulks, onos stunning (what was that calleda gain? paralyze!), and babblers!

Babblers could sometimes be useful in that they'd mask the REAL skulks until it was too late.

i can't remember ever not flying with a jp in 1.04. perma flight, and all.

feh HD, some of us didnt' get good framerates

paralyze was win, fades having bile bomb that raped structures AND marines was win, spores were the ultimate endgame, you could hive for days if you weren't hurt becuase SOF didn't pick you up, old GL model, old hera, adren + regen + enhanced hivesight for those of us with dark monitors + 3 hives == battle fatty of uber pwnage because of webs + 4-5 babblers + 1 skulk in with the bablers + healspray == OWNTAGE  :rolleyes:


1.04 was fun, but 2.0 onward was extremely much polished than 1.04 was, not to mention the new lerk flight model alone makes 3.x better.

anyone else remember waiting for 2.0?

^^ I got many a Jp rine with that loveable move, I love how it's hitscan but there still was that small triangle that went from the onos :D

I'm pretty sure it was fam who gets killed in SE as a result of paraylze  :D
