Um, what's irc, (i know it's a chat client of sorts, but could you be more descriptive?)
how do i get it?
lurve...
-
you can get a client like Mirc, trillian, xchat etc
then you connect to a certain server [like gamesurge] and you can go into channels and the like.
Internet Relay Chat
if you don't want to install stuff just use the java irc link on the forums or gamesurges (http://www.gamesurge.net/chat) if you want to visit other channel
-
ours visits other channels too
-
oh, I did not know that
well then just use TLM's jirc if you don't want to install one then :)
[edit]
come to think of it, your not "nub" your "newbish" there is a big difference

hmm, just tried running that in IE. i usually use Firefox, but it seems to need a manual java install, and i'm lazy. but anyway...
got a nifty little error message. here's what it says.
[16:03] Connecting...
[16:03] Unable to to connect : com.ms.security.SecurityExceptionEx : cannot connect to "irc.gamesurge.net"
and that's all that shows up in the window.
note, I'm running norton anti-virus + firewall on this computer. My mother works in the data transmissions security buisness, so it's not an option to disable this.
help?
PS. thx TAK. nub just sounds cooler.
-
Your mother is in data transfer security bussiness and you use Norton? Yeah...remind me NEVER to buy anything of a place she helps run.

welll Isamil, unless you're a corporation like Nike, or the Department of Defense, i doubt you'll be shopping for the sort of data transmissions that my mother does. As to norton, well, she's kind of nub when it comes to PC's. the bitch usually works on mainframes. but whatever.
as to blackmage, thx for your help. however, i'm nub (erm, newbish). i'm guessing that those are ports that i have to open within norton for irc to work, but i'm not sure. Care to clarify that a smidge? thx much though.
-
no they're not, the only port you need to open to connect to gamesurge is 6667. i think DCCs(that's file transfers over IRC) use a different port, but by opening 6667 you can at least connect to the LM channel.
-
if you plan on accepting dcc's the port you need to open is 59, and yes i did this to answer dhp's thing about not knowing which one
-
also there's some port for ident severs blah blah blah but it's unimportant
-
any luck?
-
well, it worked yesterday. installed java, went in, talked to ppl, all good.
today, nothing. as far as i know i haven't changed anything, the port's still open in norton. just says i can't connect to the server or whatever.
-
So are you saying you're using Java IRC? Why not just use HyrdaIRC (free) or something?
-
well, it seems to be working now, so i'm not going to touch it. ty all
