I've suspected that my RAM might be screwy as of late. However, it's now gotten to the point where my computer refuses to boot. And now, I hear the horrific sound that I thought I'd buried deep deep down where it couldn't find me anymore... :o
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! -8 seconds
5 seconds of empty, awful silence... then,
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! -8 seconds, and so on and so fourth. :angry:
Damn it! Who knows beep codes? IS this a RAM issue? Or is it something even more sinister? I believe I have AwardBIOS, and so far, I haven't been able to dig up an 8 second single beep code solution on teh intarweb. <_<

Really though, if your to lazy to look at that, then I can tell you that it is a problem with your ram. Just follow the link to find out more.

I did suspect my RAM, but I just wanted confirmation from people who might have had the same problem before. So, I just wanted to cover all the bases. I'll replace my RAM (again) and see if it wont fudge up this time.

I found this one pretty funny:

Take your ram out, swap in somebody else's, see if it beeps. Sheesh! Even the idiot technician at work knows that, and he got all his information from MAXIMUM PC.

There are various different beep patterns for different problems, but the most common is ram
If you have two sticks, try one at a time, and in different slots. If it works with one stick, try to figure out if its the slot or the stick. If its the stick, throw it out, if its the slot, something is probably shorting it out, take a look if the connectors are touching eachother or if something conductive is wedged in between there
If you have one stick, borrow one that you know works, and try it in both slots. If it doesn't work, then check the slots like above, if it does work, its the sticks.

Well, I replaced my two sticks of 512. It was confirmed they were bad. (duh, some might be thinking)
However, installing my two new sticks only gave me the same problem, so I soon found out the motherboard was bad. (Sheesh)
So, I returned it and picked up a new one. Everything booted up without error, but now I have a few new minor issues to work out.
I have no sound, the computer isn't detecting my sound card or my CD-ROM. It says they're there, and installed, but they dont work. Poking about a bit, I noticed that I had no plug and play support in the system devices section of my hardware profiles. Okay, so now I cant re-install anything because my CD-ROM wont run, so I search the internet for the software for my sony crx320-a cd-rw/dvd-rom. I found a set of system files that are supposed to allow my cd-rom to be detected, but alas, I don't know where to put them. They aren't drivers, so I cant manually install them using the hardware wizard.
I would think that re-installing my motherboard drivers would correct this error, so I went to the elitegroup website (I have an Elitegroup 648fx-a mobo) and went to the downloads section. The only problem is, I don't know what to download!

*edit* Okay, fixed that problem, everything is reinstalled. Sound still doesnt work, but I can fix probably fix it*
