Where'd you get those bots? I've only ever really known of Whichbot, although they only work as Kharaa.

yeah like how do you get a bot to build stuff?

thats cool though never heard of a NS bot, finaly a realiable trusty marine that follows orders to the T.
who cares how bad they aim, 1 bot just building stuff round the clock would be bliss.

I think those are combat-specific bots, Seth; I've never heard of anyone actually making Marine bots that build stuff and follow orders.

They were in some server (see SS for the name) that I happened to pop in. The bots on the aliens fight and evolve and stuff and even build in non-co maps. But they are dumb as a steaming pile of sh*t.  For example, a bot will go gorge, and drop a DC in the middle of a random hallway. Overall, they're a horrible sucker on team res distribution.  Although, it's worse when they go fade. At least as gorges, you might get an upgrade, but with bot fades, they literally walk around your hive room bumping into walls.

Playing against Whichbots is fun at times. On ns_eclipse, oftentimes one bot will gorge, drop the node, and spend the rest of the game hopping in circles around the node. I found a little bug with the bots: If you sit on top of the hive and start knifing it to death, the skulks will spin madly in circles underneath you, not climbing on the walls to get to you. They keep spinning and hopping in circles like mad until they crash NS.

It's because of the whichbot waypointing system. Whoever built the set of waypoints for that map probably didn't think to add a waypoint that told skulks they could climb on top of the hive.

Of course, some hives it's nearly impossible for normal players to climb on top of, with all the odd ceiling architecture, so not being able to explain it to bots is understandable.

i would think that a marine bot would be easier to code, seein how a commander ( comm would proly be the only human on the team ) can give his marines/bots build WP defend WP and weld WP

they just need the bot to listen to the different waypoints, ie select squad of bots, move to hera entrence... they go, as a group and secure the room with the waypoint in it, from there you just waypoint them to rt's and they build, anytime they have no waypoint they request orders... would seem like a cool bot to me, but of course thats if you like the comm chair as much as i do...

i'm not to keen on self thinking bots let alone real marines anyways
far as i'm concerned all they need to do is fire their weapon well but thats just about par for what i expect of all my marines human or not >:D

If it was possible to get those waypoints more than once in every hundred clicks maybe. The only one I can ever get is weld target. Defend, attack, pick up equipment, they never work for me.

on the bot server i was on they must have had some plugin that when you clicked remotely next to a weldable it stuck the waypoint on the weldable and said "weld target" and same for going to res towers and building structures, so the bots ran well :)

One thing I liked to do was play vs 3 whichbots on tanith ^___^

Esp since I was on my crappy computer and WB's killed my FPS, the skulks walking sound was the sound of doom.

On another server, what we do is get a few players together on combat, 3-5, and then set the entire alien team as bots (around 15-20), vs us marines. Its a pretty intensive battle sometimes as you just cant reload fast enough to take down 7-9 skulks charging one player. That was using default skill setting. If we put the skill setting higher those whichbots start bunnyhopping and doing the craziest things. Fun game though!
