I posted about me leaving a while back, but that was just telling you about me leaving for three days, this is a whole month.
So heres the deal. I'm going to be leaving on the 17 of June and getting back one the 16 of July. This will be one of the few times in my life where I'll actually please my moms side of the family because I'm going to be doing a hipply, back to nature camp out thing. I'm going to be camping beach on the Olympic peninsula. If any of you haven't been out there I strongly suggest you go. Its one of the most beautiful places you will ever see. While I'm there I'm going to be rebuilding a trail by the Ozet ranger station. I've actually been out there before and man that trail needs work. I'll be going out with 5 other kids that I've never met before and 2 crew leaders who I also haven't met.
All in all it think it will be really fun, but I'll miss you guys and ns. Hrm, I guess thats it. I look froward to seeing all of you when I get back. So long for now and have a fun summer.
-
aw thats a long time with no ns ... well.. hehe at least some of us will be outside doin stuff :D
have fun , see ya when you get back !
-
have fun nuke
cya when ya get back
-
Have fun at the Olympic peninsula Nukie :)
See you when you come back.
-
It's good to be away from the computer and all a while, have fun at the camp son! :)
-
Ah, the Olympic mountains are incredible, I'd like to go out there sometime. I'm actually going to Olympia with my parents for the 4th of July. I'll launch a *heart* shaped rocket, tell me if you see it. :D
Have fun getting in touch with your nature side.
EDIT: Also, watch out for the hobo spiders, my brother's friend got bitten by one and didn't have a very fun camping trip. :o
-
This is like the first time I've seen someone leave (on forums) for a while that didn't involve:
1) Rehab
2) Missionary Work
3) Being Grounded
-
Well, camping can be considered rehab depending on your perspective...
-
See, kids: manual labor can be fun for everyone! :p
But in all seriousness, best of luck to you. We look forward to seeing you back :)
-
Hell, I'd like to go with him :p
-
i like camping trips. as long as you dont have to do weird "kumbaya" camping stuff ..
-
I hope we don't do any of that kumbaya stuff. Although I think if the crew leaders try to make us do that there going to have a mutiny on there hands. I don't know a single person my age who likes that kind of stuff.
Oh and as a delayed response to Sancho's post (I was about to post it last night, but it got deleted) those hobo spiders look nasty. I'll make sure to stay far away from them. Also I think I'm going to be fairly far away from Olympia when I'm out there so that rocket needs to go up really high.
-
Well it sounds more like wussy camping (The kind where you stay in an RV or cabin) then actually outdoor-eat-rocks-and-^^-gold-kill-things-and-eat-them-for-fun-while-standing-in-cold-rain camping :)
-
have fun

U-236 please don't bait me :)
I must not have really described what we are going to do out there. First were going to hike out three and a half miles to the coast with 30 pound backpacks. Next were going to set up camp. Now, I've been out there before and I can assure you that its windy as hell. Then for the next three weeks I'm going to be tearing up board walk and replacing it with gravel. If thats not hard core enough for you then wait till I tell you about the weather.
The Northwest coast is most likely the rainiest part of the United States. For every mile you go inland there is one inch less of rain a year. Also June is the rainiest summer month. That means that if were unlucky there going to be a constant downpour for 20 days while we working tearing up said board walk. If were lucky it will rain for maybe 3 days and be damp for the rest of the time. That means its going to be hard to start a fire, and when I climb in my sleeping bag at night its going to be damp and cold. Oh yah, did I mention that because its so far out there the coast guard is going to ferry our food in?
Not to make it sound worse that in is, when you can actually see farther than a mile the coast is a really nice place to be. Also we will have all the proper equipment do deal with that stuff. Except for the clothes, I'm only bringing 5 pairs of everything out there. Yes five pairs of EVERYTHING for an entire month.

:o
edit: omg 100 posts

Meh, I have some soap to wash with. It won't be that bad.
-
I went on a 30 mile backpacking trip with my scout troop, we tackled that in about 2 days, in the ozarks over in arkansas. I only took the clothes on my back, and washed them thoroughly every other day. (no soap, just a good soaking, wringing, rock thrashing, and cedar-beating) It kept them really clean, i had the cleanest best smelling clothes by the end of the trip (tehy actually smelled good, like cedar!) but the upside is i eliminated about 6 lbs.
allso, I should teach you how to make snares, you could skip packing food in alltogether!
-
last summer i went on a camping trip to poland , right on the south west border of germany and poland , near the mountains for about half a month, it was pretty sweet, one night we had to crawl through this cave where the tunnel leading into it was about 1.5 foot by 2 foot ... tight squeeze .. then had to sleep in a 5' x 5' foot cave and all this other fun stuff :D ... coolest part was on the last 2 days we got play capture the flag with paintball guns through the forests and cliffs, good times :)

way to give back to your commnity nuke, have fun.

While as I'm typing this, I realize that this will be my last time on the computer for a month, I'm leaving tomorrow. I'm a little nervous about exactly what I'm going to do, but I'm more nervous about what I might forget.
I think I have everything packed, but I only have three things for entertainment. My hippy sticks, cards and a book. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on what else I should bring to keep myself entertained. The only rules are that it has to be small and I can't use batteries, any ideas?

Miniature portable chess set for the win.

WTF are hippy sticks?
I agree with bob on the mini chess set. You can't go wrong.
-
Hippy sticks are Juggling sticks or devil sticks. I just call them hippy sticks because that what the kids at school call them. You can see some examples of the sticks I use here (http://www.lunastix.com). If you look at the examples of the advanced tricks I can do most of those and more. /me ends brag.
-
Oh devil sticks. Yeah those are wicked fun. I used to be pretty good with em but don't still practice unfortunatly. I'll have to get another set to keep my hands busy when I'm not juggling or computing!
-
I use the sticks to help me focus. The day I found them again (I lost them for about a year) I got more work done than any other day that school year.

You lose at the hyperlinking.

I think this is what you had in mind.

Thats what I get for not checking my posts. On a side note ninja editing makes bobs post wrong.

A Hustler magazine.

No can do. I'm going to be sleeping in a tent with two other guys. I don't think that will go over very well.
Oh @o you should really pick up your Devil sticks again. There really easy to remember how to use. When I found mine again I was almost if not more skilled with them than the day I lost them.

So I'm looking at their 'tricks' and I see them do this wicked spin-toss thing that I suck at.
Then I see 'advanced tricks' and I cried when I watched those... god I suck.
-
Uranium - 235 remember there a lots of different styles. You may not be good at that, but you might have different skills with the sticks. I for one can't do anything beyond a infinite role, but I can perform lots of different spin tricks at really fast speeds. Just find your own style and perfect that.
Edit: seeing as this may or may not be my last time posting on the forums for a month. I might as well tell you all that when I get back I expect a full debriefing on what has happened in the past month. Just start bookmarking stories now :)
-
devil sticks were fun up until when i lost them ... i should go get another set
well, cya in a month nukie ... it's gonna be quiet without you yelling at us to get our lazy arses into games :p (you should get a promotion for being the sole reason ncr isn't asleep)
back on topic: if there could be problems with 1 hustler and 3 guys, get a couple back issues ^^
and i can't think of anything that doesn't use batteries except for travel board games and a few decks of cards

For focus I like to freestyle juggle. It's pretty relaxing and very meditative. If that's a word...

I used to have a diabolo (http://www.lorellin.demon.co.uk/props-diabolo.jpg) and I could do just about everything with it, oh good times. Now I lost it, after my sticks broke from some violent 80ft high throwing-and-catching. :(
Anyway, have fun Nuke. Bring Sonic some nice spiders. ^_^

I had a bola, holy crap that thing was scary... I literally blew a tree up with it... it broke after a while though, and I was sad :(
-
Hafaf, hippy sticks and diabolos ^_^, a good hacky sack is all you need, not easy to break either! Also easy to keep track of because you can just keep it in your pocket 24/7! Too bad I'm lazy, otherwise I'd have me a sack <_<.
Looks like I missed nuke too, hafaf :(.
-
On that hacky sack thing. I can't believe I didn't mention that.
And for anyone who says it's a stoners game. As many computer geeks in my school (one of the largest in canada at 4k students) played hack as the heads :p.
-
Nope Fool you didn't miss me. As I'm typeing this I'm waiting for my crew leader to get here. I'm bored out of my mind and I think I'm about to go play some flash games. This is really going to be the last time I see you all, so for the last time good bye.
