Ever since i upgraded from my nvidia geforec4 mx 440 to the radeon 9800 pro my in game brightness is way to low for my likeing. in the options part of the ns start up i've put both of them up all the way, but still way dark any help would be much appreciated as i can't stand the darkness. :help: :help:

1. HAHAHAH your name is DARK, and your maps are too DARK. HAHA GET IT?!?!?
2. Try lightgamma X in your console until adjusted to proper levels. Lightgamma 2.5 is the default, and lower is brighter. If you change it while in map, sometimes it won't change properly, and you have to 'paint the walls' with your flashlight, which is rather odd. Best is to try a value and reload the map. Although sometimes it's amusing to set like lightgamma 5 and then paint the walls dark with your flashlight. :D

Lightgamma is lame :( Setting it to 1 fullbrights the map, I'd literally track you down and run you over with a lawnmower if I find out you were doing that

What! NO! NEVER.
I always keep lightgamma set on 0.05. That way I can see skulks hiding in the shadows on other servers. :p

Actually, lightgamma values anywhere above two make most maps start to look like crap, except for the absolute darkest ones.
What might be really fun some time, if ew can get a lot of trustworthy people on, is playing a game where everyone has lightgamma 5 set. It makes the maps DARK. But the NS gamma overbrightening effects look awesome. The colors stand out so vibrantly. And you really can't see a THING in most dark shadows. Bast is a great map for this. You really have to run around with your flashlight on all the time, and you've got to move in squads, as ambushes seem to be waiting behind every patch of darkness.

I tried that once, after i read a thread on NS.org forums, made it hard as hell to see the skulks but Bast was beutiful.
But i think aliens would have a big advantage since they can hide in the shadows and all, but would be fun to try =)

I never did understand why people think extreme contrast/darkness = beautiful o_O I mean, you can't see all the purty architechture then :p

Basically because this is still the HL engine, and it just doesn't look that good no matter how much work you put into it. Deep shadows and contrasting vibrant colors serve not only to HIDE the blocky architecture, but also to make the color-limited textures look more impressive than they really are. Just try it sometime, lightgamma 5, map ns_bast, and go walk around refinery. It's truly an amazing change.
