You would have to be AWFULLY young to have missed that one. I think we're aiming at older movies that people might not know about the awesomeness of. Although some of Tarantino's earlier work should be included: Reservoir Dogs is wicked awesome. The Usual Suspects is quite possibly the best movie ever. Way of the Gun, while a newer movie, didn't get a lot of publicity, and that's one that's worth seeing. Hmm... If I think of more I'll get back to you.

Edit: hello, punctuation!

Goldeneye (and other older Bond movies)
Indiana Jones (series)
Braveheart (war, but action)
Bladerunner (sci-fi, but still contains action)

And Die Hard is one of the best action movies ever ;).

Isamil, all the movies we mentioned are at least about five years old. Then other are from the '80s. That could be a reason too. :p

yes, we should make other lists for war and sci fi.

braveheart is sorta an epic war type movie, i love it, but i'm not sure if it fits into the action movie category i'm talking about.

if you are going to there, then it's be
braveheart
gangs of new york
gladiator
master and commander

for war, yeah, what seth said.

bob: yeah, just as i hit post, The Usual Suspects popped up in my head :S

so, these movies i listed are like.. you won't regret renting them :)

OH DEAR GOD!! i forgot

Since we're adding on some relatively recent movies as well, I'll add Equilibrium, although I'm sure nearly everyone has seen that.

Also, there was one movie that the same friend as mentioned before, who is a major movie fanatic (like my obsession with music, but with movies for him), a movie he suggested and that I've seen many good reviews for is Memento. Something about it being very much a tribute to the old film nior movies and such.

Memento is hardly an action movie through Grimm.

Oh boy, I managed to finally watch through all that crappy acting the other day and it was one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen.  Its like a 20/10 point movie, minus 10 points for the bad acting, making it about 10/10.  WHAT OTHER MOVIE SHOWS BRAINS GETTING SUCKED RIGHT OUT OF A GUY'S HEAD?!  POINT MADE!

I see the old war movies was covered (full metal jacket = t3h pwnt)

and die hards and such, :)

I'd have to suggest if your a big arnold fan, Commando, and of course,

I'll just list em now

Scarface
Taxi driver
lock stock and two smoking barrels
snatch
Pitchblack

those are the only ones I can think up of now, (damn I hope their not already mentioned :) )

Since we seem to be deviating towards action titles in general, I would very much like to recommend Band of Brothers, although it isn't really a single movie, more of a short series (10-14 'episodes' I think, each about an hour long).

Star Trek I and II were pretty good aswell.

While we're on the subject of hot bloody action, anyone ever played action half life? It was the mod I played forever before getting into NS. Some of you nubz0rz should try it out. It's less realism-oriented than CS, focusing more on fast action and lots of blood. So basically you have slightly less accurate weapons (like LMG in NS) that do slightly less damage (hardly any battles are over in a few shots, you get to dance around and spray for a while) and you get cool stunts, allowing you to dive through a window and cap the enemy in the head while you roll across the ground. WINR! B)

winnar indeed bob and as you know i too started playing ahl before ns took over my life like the addiction that is hard to break.

for some of you who don't know you can recognize some of the models in ahl from some of the movies mentioned in here to see.

btw back on topic boondock saints was a great movie and i will have to check out some of the other movies mentioned earlier in this thread. ;)

Ahh, yes, but did you play The Opera?

/me reminisces of the day he got a spinning, falling, jumping knife-to-the-throat-kill, earning him 10000 bucks.

I downloaded it, but NO ONE played TO. I thought maybe I'd pick it up in the ut2k3 mod, until that got canned too. I'm not sure what the latest status on it is. AHL is supposedly moving to the ut2k4 engine, so we'll see what happens there.

Also, has anyone mentioned escape from new york and escape from LA yet? Those movies rox0r my b0xorz.

Psh, AHL. I tried that out for a couple days, never got used to it, nobody online would help me (even when it was just me and one other guy on a map, he'd rather snipe at me with stuff).

Now, The Specialist, that's a different story. Let me tell you, I took many enemies down with a last chance blast from my beloved Sawed-Off, yes sirree. My most common weapon combination is Golden Colts (less shots, thus demanding more accuracy than the Akimbo Berettas), Steyer-Aug with Silencer, and the Sawed-Off. Of course, to deal with all those Kung-Fu whores who like to knock your weapons down, I had my backup setup of as many pistols as possible (7 sets, I believe, most of them Akimbo).

Hmm... I've gone off on a tangent.

Anyway, since Venmoch brought up the anime Ghost in the Shell, which is a very very cool movie, I'd like to suggest the Armitage movies, Dual Matrix and Poly Matrix. Not really the best stuff out there, and I highly recommend watching them with the original Japanese voices with English subtitles, but still pretty cool stuff.

Event Horizon Check

Just finished watching that... I'm not big on even only somewhat-horror films, and this one will definitely mess with my sleep tonight (I know, I'm such a wuss).

Oh god. Has anyone here seen Big Trouble In Little China (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090728/)? According to some friends of mine it inspired Mortal Kombat. Once you see it you'll have a hard time doubting them.

It's cheesy most of the time but a grade A movie if you ask me :D

Hard Boiled (as already mentioned by XSZnub) is also a must.

And uhh....uhh....anything with Jet Li.
