Title: "End Of Line" ?
Post by: scooter-blue on January 09, 2005, 11:55:43 PM
This is just a quick question.  What is the "End of line" phrase in reference to?  I think it has something to do with bast, but I don't know how.

"Our brave heroes flee the oncoming avalanche. They flee for their very lives, but still it's coming. Suddenly, an abyss yawns at their feet. Escape is impossible. "Well," one of them says, "I guess this is the end of the line."

(Of course, them being heroes, they surely make good a daring escape, probably utilising basejumping/snowboarding/other extreme sports)

That's "the end of the line."

tron is good though.

I do believe it is in reference to a train line, as confused said.

I'm not sure where you've seen it used, but End of Line is generally associated with the Master Control Program from TRON.

Also, in programming terms, end of line is a signaller to the processor to stop an activity.

If you could supply where you've seen "end of line" then I can discern the context and offer a more appropriate answer.

Hmm, I assumed it was just a matter of how the person wrote it, but it appears we may have two different phrases here.

End of line - from tron
End of the line - from trains

end of the line is from trains, Ive never heard it used in any other context

but for you damn new "hip hop" kids, with your videos games, and your rap, and jello, it might be from tron :-D

I guess it might also mean something like "the last straw" or whatever; as in, no more, or that's enough, or you've crossed the line, etc.
Random guess.

Some people use it as a definitive way to end a statement. IE

Cheese is the god of food. End of line.

But thats a rarity probably induced by UrbanDictionary having woeful definitions of the term.

Well, Mr. Bond. You've caused quiet a bit of trouble for me, but I assure you, this is the end of the line for you.

Thats what it is used for, in reference to the last stop of a train

But Bond always escapes, so its not really the "end of the line."

Bond: the character named Q is bond's gizmo guy, making seemingly impossible and amazing gadgets
Star Trek: the character named Q is an interdemensional all-powerfulish guy that can pop in here and there

Conclusion: same person! :p Thus Q is not really dead, only... not here...

Second, none of us have seen his corpse. Neither have we seen Elvis' corpse, yet we all know he is alive and well. If Elvis lives in Graceland, you must acquit!
