Who was your best commander so far in lunixmonster? i mean commanding more then 1 game which could have been luck, (no sucking up to LB or the other admins u sneaky bustards!) right now id have to go with Gold Leader. (sorry niteowl lol)
HunzEdit: we aren't an operating system :p
-
CWAG
-
cwag, niteowl,goldfish(somtimes ;p)
-
CWAG, Goldfish and Gold Leader all make excellent comms. I haven't been commed by Niteowl much, so I can't pass judgement. There's been a lot of good comms though, can't remember them all.
Did I ever mention this is one of the things I really like about LM? There's a fair amount of good comms among the regulars, meaning that you actually see a good share of marine wins.
-
i'm a decent comm from watching cwag comm, but I'm not great yet ;p
-
Seth.. whoever he is :p
What.. Im not on here? :p
-
Godlike, nubs. He's the master of exploiting every overbalanced aspect of the marine side. He's actually a full-blown whore.
-
Gold Leader, Goldfish, Niteowl is the scariest comm ever...but makes the game feel important
CWAG is good but not fun :p
-
Godlike, nubs. He's the master of exploiting every overbalanced aspect of the marine side. He's actually a full-blown whore.
he must have gotten better :p . . .
-
godlike is a good comm when it comes to pubs, but he needs to work on comming clan matches
-
On LM server, I gotta say CommunistWithAGun.
Misc. very good comm: Legionnaired (dare I say, better than CWAG even! :o maybe... )
-
wow, thanx for all the votes guys :)
but hands down, imho, thus far, is GoldLeader.
xod, haven't been a rine under him, neither have i seen cwag comm. goldy? haven't seen him comm either. sheesh. i guess i don't rine much :)
but i've seen lots of comms, and from all the servers i've played on, GoldLeader is waaaay up there. from recent memory, HE"S NUMBER ONE :D
-
i would go with Goldleader. i like his use of squads, and hes pretty quick on the ball too.
me, haha i pass judgment to early... about 4 mins into the game, judging on what rines i have, i can tell whos gonna win... often not I. i just hold no respect for the nubs, what can i say they are to expensive. i blame RFK. enough said.
Commie is good also...
oh and ty devicenull your just saying that cause i spam you with equipment.
-
Gold Leader is quick and efficient, like some sort of delicious German sex machine. However, I'd have to say that the best commander I've had the pleasure of being yelled at by was CommunistWithAGun. He also promised me a harem. Niteowl gets the games off to a good start, but I dunno if it is him or us- we can never seem to finish it up correctly. Niteowl, I think you need to siege more and rely on stupid people less. Xodlike is alright I guess. In conclusion, you're all beautiful people. Except Xodlike, 'cause he is just alright.
-
Goldfish, you have never seen me comm a full decent game on hera/lost with good regs have ya?10 vs 0 res nodes last time I played on LM. I dont play 2.01 anymore much..
-
[...]delicious German sex machine[...]
Archived.
Yes, dev is also a great comm. You go into the "bunch of good comms I can't remember" category.

ok, sex machine analogy?!? GOOOOLD BABABY!! GOOOOOLD!!
and yes, i have to agree with you on that goldfish. i've had far too many games where i can't seal up the deal. i sorta rely too much on my rines shooting stuff. and would rather attack with them (more fun for them, cheaper for me) than static defenses. lost many a game due to that. after seeing a nice usage of pg, sg, siege, and ups from GoldLeader, i'll prolly go that route :) i really really really dislike static D when i can spend that money on upgrades. but i guess i'll have to change my ways :(
GL is also a great communicator, precise and to the point. tells us exactly what to do, where to do it, etc, etc.
from what i hear, it sounds like CWAG is the comm with da bomb (ooooh, baad use of craptacular slang owl). only reason i don't put GL there is cuz i'm not sure how many ppl have played with him.
xod i'd guess is better than i simply based on the record of winning i hear him crow about. so in owl's estimation
1) tied somewhat with CWAG and GL
2) Xod , devnull, goldfish
3) seth and owl
not sure where lead0rz is there
so get learning you rines!! get yer theory craft going, yer map strats, jump in the chair!! command us!! you too can join us hallowed few honoured in.. er... these forums :D
-
i'm 58. right above nsplayer..
-
fatty -- We kicked ass on Hera with him as comm. I was amazed.
-
man, back in the days of 1.04 i thought i was a pretty pimp commander, l3on was good too :D hai2u El Bee and company! my first post! *sniffle*
-
Xodlike- I've played with you on Hera and Lost and yes, you do fine on those two maps. Are you angry about not being beautiful? Because I could rephrase. You have your own kind of beauty. The smelly, less beautiful kind.
I'm just kidding, give me some loving, son.
Niteowl- nothing wrong with killing stuff with your marines, s'long as the aliens aren't sacking your base at the same time. ^_^
-
crack
cheez
keyser
cwag
xodlike
in no particular order
-
I acctually think that right now, as of December 17th.. Since I am posting this at 12:00am ^^, I think that GoD, fatty, are really good. Really haven't been commander by Goldfish, and Others..
-
Goldfish is pretty good and so is crack. I've had some wins with both of them. One time though, Goldfish joined and we had a noob comm, but 'fish wouldn't comm and we lost. :(
-
well, i won't rate, but commander who are competent
goldleader
seth
anarki
drubo (i think.. it was)
will add more as they come to me ;)
-
Doh! I forgot Niteowl. Very good comm, and he'll do it when no one else will.
-
Hey guys, first post!
I haven't had the pleasure of 'rining under CWAG yet, but from what I hear, he's pretty incredible.
Oh, and thanks Grimm, I've been working on my comming style lately, I think I finally have a style/build order that works for me, with a TF, IP, armory first, scatter the marines, get 4 nodes, Lab and Up the armory, then throw out HA and walk all over em. It's worked every game except one, where I accidently dropped an armory instead of a spare CC when mine was under attack... Oh well.
Maybe I'll see you guys on later and we'll be able to have a good bit of marine pwnage. >:D
-
Goldfish has more or less stopped comming, mostly because of a nub who kept flaming him for entirely no reason. Goldfish left, nub kept flaming, Owl kicked him, nub returned and kept flaming, nub was bant. Goldfish still isn't comming though. *sigh*
Niteowl makes for a good comm too, except for one vital weakness: He focuses more on entertaining his rines than on winning the game. While you can win a game and still be bored, being bored while losing is far more common. And while Niteowl's "build PG in/close to hive and have The Big Battle Of The Much Slaughtering On Both Sides"-tactic is certainly wholesome fun for the whole family, it is a little more prone to failure than the classic "build TF outside hive, siege the crap out of 'em". And we all know that the interval between "ok, rines have lost" and the last IP being destroyed is far too long, and that the inbetween is usually relatively boring (classic dialogue: "Oh c'mon aliens, just kill us." "Then stop resisting, dammit!"). Piece of advice: Either strike a better balance between fun and winning, or adopt the IP spam tactic: Instead of building more turrets or handing out a few hmgs when you've pretty much lost anyway, try building lots of IPs. Then watch "The Fun Last Stand Of The Giggling". Still remember our last stand in Computer Lab, Lightning Blue? How many IPs did we reach? Eleven?
And a hearty "omghi2u", Legionnaired. Hope to see you on the server when I return.
-
weow , i got mentioned , thanks niteowl
my fav comms are crack , seth , lito , niteowl who comm most of the time
theres others but i forget . .
-

I think I need to be a grunt for Niteowl one of these games sometime soon, sounds very entertaining. :D
And yes, now that Legionnaired is officially part of Lunixmonster, I can declare him an official Lunixmonster GreatComm (tm before LF does :p).
-

this actually made me lol.
yes, i do find i play games of attrition with rines shooting wildly and win or loss depending almost entirely on how well they can frag. :) on the plus side, when we lose, we lose REALLY REALLY REALLY fast.
uhm. i've been trying to siege hives more, it's working better.
-
I'm gonna go with niteowl on this one too. Crack is also pretty good, but the guy needs voicecomm. You just can't effectively control your grunts without being able to scream at them while giving waypoints. Also, he bonsaibases. Ugh.
As for the rest of the mentioned comms, I guess I just haven't been around long enough to have the pleasure of being yelled at by them.
-
I must add two people. Holy_Devil is an awesome comm and can win on maps that 'rines are supposed to completely suck on. Legionnaired is also a very good comm -- first time I had him comm, it seemed like he knew what he was doing. But I must say a comm is as good as his marines.
EDIT: As many times as I've played with CWAG, I don't think I've ever seen him comm. Hearing how he's supposed to be good sure makes me think he should be back on the server more.
-
Yeah - I'll give a shout-out to Holy_Devil ^^
-

Yes yes, i agree with all of that. Holy_Devil is a good comm, top one on my list. I haven't had CWAG as a comm yet though, hes always like "i don't wanna, someone else do it" so, yeah.
-
I am a fairly bad comm, only game I won was my first, and thats beacuse the team ruled and didn't really need me.(I tend to comm when no one else wants to comm, which is a lot)
Legion and Holy Devil are preaty good comms.
Seth is good
-
argh , i love and hate holy devil at the same time
-
Seth is good
/me agrees
-
yes, i concur with the threadage above me :)
HD, Seth are both solid comms. i've never played under legionnaired, at least, not a whole game.
fyi, being a good comm can help you get a reserved slot :)
-
Argh, now hearing that, I feel that I need to work on better comming in order to justify my slottage. I just need better skills for yelling at people, I suppose. Whenever I jump in the chair it seems my whole team decides to rambo off. I think more shouting would fix this.
-

you don't NEED to be a good comm for a slot, a nice, friendly, team work oriented person is just as good :)
but since good games kinda hinge on a decent comm, good comms are given the nod, usually.
-
*is a horrible, horrible, inexperienced comm*
*notices lower level than Niteowl*
*hangs head in shame*
-
Thanks fatty, your the best rambo. <3
BOB: I have a voice com(Plantronics headset), trust me, you dont wanna hear me get mad or yell.
I like Holy_Devil hes good. Seth is okay but loses alot of his games, he starts _really_ good then gets owned in the end. Owl is okay/good.
-
CRACK: I demand to hear you screaming your viscious insults at me next time you comm! "You can't take down four skulks with your pistol? YOU STUPID NUB!" sounds so much better when screamed instead of typed. Also, it frees you up to do other commworthy things instead of typing.
Although I really got the giggles from you giving us continuous waypoints two feet from each other on lost earlier today. Go here. Now here. Now here. I couldn't tell you were annoyed at all.....
-
I have to say crack as one of the best comms ever. He turned a 100% hopeless situation into a white-knuckle victory that would've probably given a lesser man a stroke in the comm chair. Lack of voice is not always a bad thing:
1) You can't flub words in text chat, or have static and people can't hear you. (Did you say 'Fade' or 'Phase'?)
2) Text chat stays on the screen longer.
3) Text chat doesn't get drowned out by spamming voices on the comm.
4) Text chat is more noticable.
Throughout the entire game, though, I never had a communication problem with voice and text.
-
No time to fight on voice com i just speak in my head "those fkin nubs cant even shoot a skulk" or sometimes ill tell you but if typing makes me loss all the games i comm then ill be forced to use voice. For now it aint a problem. I speak with WPS.
-
add:
niteowl
holy_devil
and i love you too crack. even though your first upgrades usually come at about 11 minutes ... :)
-
har har crack is the best commando ever ..
we pull through even when we are losing badly !
i dont think ive lost with him comming . .
i think once but . . . cant remember over all the victories
-
I lost one on eclipse. bad start and one on tanith because i was scared of my new model when i jumped out to save the base - whata distraction tis all.
Sorry fatty, I try to start continuous ups at 10 mins.
-
Ok, apparently, I suck at comming.
It might be jsut because I've been tired the last few days, or nub marines/vet stacks, but I need to get whipped into shape comm-wise.
If any of you are marining under me, fell free to whine and moan when I do soemthing stupid.
-
Just keep trying. If you've been better at it before, chances are you just need a little practice to get back in shape. It's not exactly like anybody expects you to win the game for them, so don't feel bad if you lose a few. Iirc, the losses under you have been pretty close games, so there's no reason to give up just yet. LM can always use another good comm, and you seem to have it in you.
-
I like fatty, NiteOwl, and a few others. I enjoy when crack is playing, whether comm or marine, he listens. Holy_Devil.... well, he's good, but I'll get him one day.. (I dunno if he looks at this forum, but I'll send him here to gloat on his skills). HD is a great comm, marine, alien, whatever, he's just good, period. AND HE DOESN'T HACK!! I haven't had as many comms as I usually try to myself, but I must experience CWAG.
Oh yeah, and I just joined the forums, hello all!
-
Thanks christ, and welcome. Your also a good com.
-
I'd say my all stars are as follows:
lolfighter
agentorange
leaderz0rz
;)
Anyway, commanding is a hard and dirty business that I'd rather stay away from now as far as public servers go. Crack annoys me sometimes ("Good job Goldfish, you gave away my position. Good job Goldfish, I hope you die. Good job Goldfish, you smell bad. Blah blah blah blah blah") Holy_Devil is a delightful fellow, but I'm not sure I've experienced his commanding. Legionairred does just fine, but no comm can ever win when I'm one of their men. Just that kind of jynx.. ;) Uh..who else do I feel the need to address. TheChuckster needs to shut the hell up if he manages to win a game when his entire team is regs... but I will say that he's getting better as far as commanding goes. Chuckster- LISTEN TO YOUR SOLDIERS MORE. And learn to use hotkeys with the medpacks, please. Fatty is delicious, like a good steak.
Bob and Rad are good marines... but.. how come I don't recall being a soldier under either of them. Bad memory, probably. Anyways, peace out cub scouts.
-
Crack annoys me sometimes ("Good job Goldfish, you gave away my position. Good job Goldfish, I hope you die. Good job Goldfish, you smell bad. Blah blah blah blah blah")
We are talking about comming.not regular play.
-
I nominate myself mostly because I am awesome.
-
You havnt commed in a long time CWAG - We miss you, you gotta start comming again. You did pretty good on Reg Night but i remember in 2.0 you were "THE BEST COM EVAR!!!!!one"
-
I've been busy with 3.0 and my clan now, and especially since we got this nice new server I've been a little sidetracked. I will ALWAYS be around for regular nights however. That I promise. Nothing short of a family death will keep me from it.
-
My comm style generally involves no turret factories at all. Instead of a TF I place mines and an arms lab down immediatly. Depending on how well we are pressuring the hive, I work on getting phasegates or possibly tech up to JPs if they have 1 hive and HA if they have 2.
Electricity is a waste of res when you have upgrades and are able to succesfully pressure the hive. I'll show you guys sometime when I get unbanned. :(
-
Mines are tottaly useless. Thats a waste of res.
-
i think applying clan strats to pub games are highly effective and very efficient if done right, but disastrous if executed poorly. however, i think that pub strats are almost always disastrous if done in clan games.
key and cwag play very clannish type games, where everyone listens and such (actually, i dont' remember seeing key comm, i'm just assuming), so their strats are much more aggressive and, some might say, risky. it also means you won't usually see them in pubs. most pub comms try to plan for mediocre to poor marines. which leads to defensive commanding, which leads to loss against a booming (standard) alien strat.
-
There lies the problem. I'd love to have more practice comming, but I can't take the aggravation of having to babysit. When I can just say 'squad one, get here, squad two, here, you hold base' and then sit back and medspam, that's a happy day. If I have a few regs on my team, I'll happily rush for the comm chair. A lot of unknowns I much prefer not to comm... or not to play marines at all even, and work for a comm that spends all the starting res on OMG TURRENTS!
-
yes, herding the cats is a difficult chore. but i find it more satisfying than clan matches (although, admittedly, i haven't commed that many).
-
I know that this thread has been "dead" for quite some time... BUT! I feel obligated to give "mad props" (3/24/04 Travinator) to Saltzbad <3
He is the best commander that I have played with.
From the soothing voice, to the detailed instructions, to the exciting strategies, he rules.
-
yeah, saltzbad is getting to be too good of a comm <_<
i barely seen him lose anymore.
-
Saltz is awesome... he spends more than any comm ive ever seen, and puts up fewer nodes... i dont know how he does it...
to tell the truth, I like playing against him, I know i will win if hes the comm and I and the other regs are under him
Skulk/fade is my forte anyway, i love trying to beat him
-
ahhh haha, what a headache i love to comm but bloody well hate coming noobs!
i also dont like rambos, but if there is 2 or 3 rambo's and they work together well things get done, bugs get killed.
whoever said that i start off good and loose about half way in is a idiot, i loose that way becuaes my moron of marines cant understand the fact that they need to get to the growing hive and shoot it down... and most times they never do then we get out tech'ed fast by fades, loose our nodes, and game over.
not really my fault, i give them waypoints and have the right upgrades to get the job done also intel coming over the voicecomm, but if they cant aim or work together we could have HA and W3A3 and still loose but hey its just a game and if they suck that bad go play something else i cant stand stupid marines.
-
Seth and Saltzbad, great comms with original tactics
-
Vigilante (capitalize some letters here and there and you have his name) is pretty good. Haven't seen him really that much, but I might of awhile back. Anyway, he's a pretty good team player and such. It also turns out that he's a pretty good comm. He commed me twice today. First time was awesome (we won with amazing fast strikes on each hive), and the second time was a very good effort.
-
best commandes i have served under:
CWAG
SaltzBad
Nooblet
GoldLeader (commanded my first ha train *sniff*)
Grilloke
and salts voice never changes even when he's mad

actually, i dont think so.
i haven't played with nite much and hd is usually spec
and if archi is comm do not try to go near messhall on nancy ^^
-
lol thats so true BM.
He does his little SUPER base in MH every game! :help:
-
Ahhh too many little black mage icons!
Saltzbad is the win. The only comm that will step out of the chair and shoot his marines for not following orders. Hooray!
Nite hasn't commed much lately that I've seen. Neither has HD. What's wrong with you people? Get back in that chair and craft us more wins for the marines!
-
if i had to pick one, GoldLeader, hands down. two? HD.
i've only seen saltz comm once, so i don't have enough experience with him to say.
-
Saltzbad is the win. The only comm that will step out of the chair and shoot his marines for not following orders. Hooray!
Oh dear god yes, I think that was the most beautiful thing i've ever witnessed in NS history.
Saltzbad: "C'mon guys, get the **** out of base..."
A few minutes pass...
Saltzbad: "If you don't get your asses out of base now im going to shoot all of you, I swear to god."
*comm ejection sound, gunfire erupts*
Random guy in base: "AHH! IM BUILDING! IM BUILDING STOP SHOOTING!"
-
haha thats so true, and then hes swears at them in the funniest voice ever
-
lol thats so true BM.

no, i mean marines should not go near mess hall
go near messhall and i ban you
and gimmie my avatar-dude back!
i am the black mage, i casts the spells that makes the peoples fall down!
-
I love playing with Saltz as a comm.
HD is a pretty good comm too, but he abuses his team so much. :p
Saltz has alot of unique strats and keeps the action going.
-
i like how saltz, nightowl, nooblet, hd, and rad com cause they are all great commanders with very good strats
edit: added rad to my list of favorite LM coms :D
-
Old thread, I know. But it's funny to read b/c you see how the strats have changed. The first two pages listing the best comms are the ones who used TF's in base and crack even said mines are a waste. Now it's the reverse. Funny how a game remains the same but strats keep evolving. I think this list needs updating, and I think HD, Bob, NITEOWL, and a few others should get back into the chair. I'm getting tired of hopping in every match b/c no one else will.
So, my favorites (in no order):
Saltzbad - he lets me rambo for nodes = win
Mr.Ben - Generally has good strats, has the best ability I've seen to come back and win.
HD - I'm not good enough for Squad 5
NightOwl - If he' ever actually commed
Zero7 - He's come a long way in a short time. Listens to marines well.
Any one else who has the courage to try.
-
rad4Christ,Apr 18 2004, 09:50 AM] Zero7 - He's come a long way in a short time. Listens to marines well.
interesting, never knew he commed.
-
Saltz - His voice makes me calm ;)
HD - I always find a way too sneak into a Hive and getting a PG up when he comms, rarely when someone else comm.
-
dsgasdsa is my favorite commander. his hilarity inspires me to greatness, and phase gate hopskotch was clearly better than normal NS wil ever be.
-
Saltz - His voice makes me calm ;)
Calm ? OLO !
His calm voice pisses me off :p
-
i like how saltz, nightowl, nooblet, hd, and rad com cause they are all great commanders with very good strats

I made a list!
-
noone from my list evar plays / commands anymore. *shakes fist at crack*
-
but of course you did and you deserve to be on other peoples lists as well ;)
-
I have commed a few small games on the server...(5vs5 6vs6)...Im to scared to get in the cc with a full server. I might get yelled at =\..Im still learning all the hotkeys and stuff..
Saltz!!He drops ammo/medpacks like a god!
-
I obviously don't comm on LM enough :( *sobs*
-
I obviously don't comm on LM enough :( *sobs*
I added you, Mr.Ben. You by far have been the best commander I've seen as turning a game around. I remember a game on metal where some guy was comming, really screwed us over, and you hopped in and brought a victory.
-
Oh my, someone added me to their list! ^^ <3 rad
Arr Matey!
-
Side note: Is it me, or are marines winning more. I'm winning on a 2/3 ratio lately, and it's not my "l33t c0mm1ng skillz0rz". Really. Most games I win aliens rarely get second hive up and very few fades. If I'm securing the map fast enough to prohibit this, kudos to me, but I don't know, it's seems abnormal the marine victories as of late. Just yesterday, I won two games in a row, on caged and tanith. There were good players on the other team, but we really flattened them. Any other comm's seeing more victories?
-
yes, i seem to be seeing this more too.
-
As am i.
LM has uber comms :D
-
I'm seeing it a lot as well. I think as long as the marines get an upgrade or two off the bat, the aliens have a hard time killing them.
Oh, and I've been working out a JP rush strat the last few days. Works beautifully, but you need to hold about 4-5 res nodes to get it to work, upgrade the armory as soon as it's built, and get an arms lab in there somewhere as well.
If it works though, you'll have shotgun-toting jetpackers versus a team of skulks, a fade, and a building hive. Absolutely devastating.
-
I like that strat too, easy enough to get jps within 5 minutes, especially on maps like agora, hera and ayumi where you hardly even have to leave base to be sitting on about 4/5 nodes.
-
i've won ... a few games ... against horribly unorganized aliens ... but i won!
in no order:
salt, nub, gold, dev.
-
JP rushes just have a bunch of significant weaknesses, and if they do appear on the playing field you have to call it off and go for HA almost definitely - like OCs in the hive, Lerks, bad Hive areas, good Fades or the 2nd Hive being up (which is technically possible - it can be up at about 6 minutes, roughly the same time you'll be decking out JPs).
Heck, the only compelling reason to JP rush is because a) the other side overpowers you on the ground or B) you can't afford to wait the extra 50 seconds to research HA.
But yeah, techrushes work on almost any map fairly well, but best on agora/hera.
Edit :
@rad:
Good players on the marines simply weigh more by themselves, and even if they're being fairly stupid will heavily influence the game and territorial control. In other words, games with good marines are easily recognizable by you having a very easy time moving around and taking ground for the first few minutes - and after that, even the Fades won't save the 1RT/1Hive situation.
The only real counter to it is good teamwork on the Skulk/Gorge side, like only entering camped rooms with at least 1 friend and generally communicating well with the team. But how many people naturally do that? :o
-
Well, it's not really that my marines are having a higher k:d ratio. It's mainly been that we've found little resistance.
I always do the old "Point A is their hive, rush the nearest res node from it and attack". After a few battles, they either
A ) waste res on defenses there
B ) Continue to rush it ignoring the rest of the map
C ) Give up on it and usually the game (if we can't keep them away from outside our hive, we can't do anything)
D ) Both A & B
The only time this really fails is when my marines are slow to push and they turn the tables. Then I manage a shotty rush on a hive to put them back where they belong, and then we resume advancement.
Yesterday I was losing alot though (partially to the fact my headset only worked in the left ear, and my mic worked 20% of the time...), and I was noticing that it was mainly b/c I couldn't communicate enough with my marines to push their hive more.
Addendum: I'm not on many people's lists, I guess I need to step it up, or stay out of the chair.
-
I'll say that you have turned into a fine commander now :)
My list right now would just be saltzbad, rad and legionnaired, very few other people seem to comm regulary enough for me to get a feel for them or never comm at all anymore.

I had gl comm in a pug once, he was awesome.

Bah, you're on my list for sure bay-beh. The reason for most smattering marine losses is marines unable to follow simple orders - and I mean really simple things, without getting lost. Theres a load of games where by looking at the players, you can be fairly certain this will be the case and hence an unwinnable game. Not that it stops me from trying, but its usually just an exercise in frustration.
And then you'll only win if the aliens are really aweful Skulks (and even then usually not).

Rad, you're really a very good Comm. Keep up the awesome work.
I've been comming a lot lately, anyone seen any improvements in me, or anything I can do better?
-
Tank you. But I'm losing more lately... Although just had a game today on Nothing where I picked up the chair after someone left, and we went on to victory. Fun stuff, that and HD was spectating aliens for Tk's before rejoining the team (i wonder if he used insider info)...
-
well i'm touched none of you said anything of me!
and i've lead meny marines to victory without the use of voice comm, apart from maybe screaming PHASE.
edit, no one puts any faith in the "DEFEND TARGET" command, i find it works very well with all the marines in squad 1
-
I like your rate my comming thing you have, legion :D
I haven't played on LM in ages, i find there is always someone else who wants to comm so i just let them :| I need to do it more often it seems as only rad and saltz seem to know i comm :(
-
mouse is a cancer to marine teams, when he joins rine, its a insta-win for aliens. he once made rad AND holy_devil lose consecutive games. :o
i think holy_devil is learning the ways of the COMMMMRAAAGE. niteowl has taught him well.
new list:
rad4christ
holy_devil
saltzbad
gold_leader
seth
legion
any oldfogie
mr ben, but only had him as comm ~6 times
and...
BLACK MAGE OMG COMM HAX!!!!!one

Aaaaak, before I'm forced to strangulate you, stop worrying about losses. They're public games - unless you threw a perfectly good win from your team in the wind, don't fret yourself. You can gain comming experience and habit in publics, but win/losses mean nothing at all.
How many times have you seen an all-elec strat win? I'm sure you've witnessed it a bunch of times - usually the commander said maybe 'ogm guys hold on to double' the whole round and the team runs around and kills every thing they see (And thats why god loves marines. Erhm.) - including resnodes, chambers and Gorges. If a bunch of marines own up the early game, nobody can lose unless you never even spend your ressources.
Then on the other hand, theres a ton of games you just can't ever win because they barely take off from the ground - they're usually the ones where a few smart guys run off in a random direction, and either get pwned and now you're down to half your team for the initial rush, or your base gets overrun. Best example is the guys that will run into Miasma walkway at the start of an ns_lost round, getting bitchslapped in the walkway and at the same time letting a nice little Skulkrush walk across docking wing :/
Its either that, or they just suck. But somehow, odds seem to be better with cooperative but sucky teams than the other way around - when a player that rates himself good gets frustrated, he just keeps running around alone trying to prove to himself that he's not the suck. A 'team' of these guys is entirely useless (unlike the ones that actually rule, and/or fight really crappy aliens).
So anyways, the percentage of games where commanding is the deciding factor is small - some are free wins, and you can test the brutality of different tactics at best - others are definite losses. A small percentage can finally be hard games that you can either turn or lose, down to a few minute decisions.
Regardless, if you want some a bit more intense commanding exp, try pugs. Be grunt for a few first though - you're definitely a skilled enough commander, but not sure if you've seen competitive 6v6 in action yet.
-
zerwalter used to be an extremely leet comm

Pshh, you were mentioned plenty of times in the first couple of pages. I think its an accepted fact more then anything now that you can comm ANY marines out of ANY situation. I especially liked your "ignore-messhall then siege the hell out of it later" strat the other day that totally kicked ass in ns_nancy. Every time I see something totally brilliant like that, I get inspired to carbon copy it and exploit it 19810958 times, expect to see a repeat!
Anyway, you hardly comm anymore. You need to commwhore to get on the lists!
Also, how the hell do you get defend target to work?!?! I know if you click on it for several hours you will eventually get lucky, but you seem to get it on your first try! You must have aimbot. :o
-
OMG comm orders aimbotz!
Crack used to be able to do that perfectly too. He could always get defend target, weld target, and even the ever elusive 'enemies nearby' waypoint. MAGIC!
-
Defend and weld are easy (just center your screen over the target and click). Weld has a huge error margin even.
-
Hrmmm I forgot to put who I think are the best commanders ive played with.... Well I think that Tankefugl is one of the best i've ever played with/against.... and maybe Elven_Thief(or whoever was the guy who always commanded in C*B olo, been a long time since Ive played a game with a person from C*B who commanded)
Oh yeah and blahman, hafaf he was a funny commander "olo lets CC spam the hive and hmg rush it while I medspam everywhere". I bet alius can remember games with blahnub commanding better than I can, I was the nub going "omg how do I jp??????" with my 1337 25fps(when jp was fps dependent) :p.

yes, same here.
-

Actually, I founf that if I move the weld point to the corner of my screen, and click on it at an angle (not directly from above), it's works every time.
-
Lies. As anyone knows that has heard me TRY to give those danged commands, it's not easy. I center it right in the middle, and click on it, around it, near it, to the side, in the middle, then back at the side, sort of at a slight angle... sometimes I move the mouse way over in a corner and then SNAP back as if to sneak up on it. All I ever hear is 'move to your waypoint' over and over and over until my marines eject me and carry me off as a sacrifice to the aliens.
-
Giving specific waypoints is a good thing to practice when the aliens have 3 hives and you only have one RT... it's not like there's much else to do as comm at that point usually...
-
i like useing the defend waypoint command it really lets ur rines know you mean buisness.
either that or your drunk and just cant stop clicking on the tf
hope they fix it so it works when you want it to and i dont have to look like a fool clicking endlessly on a tf while they are crying for med spam
-
sancho <3
-
Any comm that states the phrase "Oh! look it's like Starcraft! I wonder if the same :"send them to their death and hope thy break through" strategy works.." Usually worries me, but it's not often.
-
Any comm who thinks they can max out on 200 marines is wrong...dead wrong
-
Do you right click or left click to set defend/weld/build wps?
BTW: I R BEST CORNMADER EVAR!
-
my favs are Devicenull for his crazy relocates and Rad4christ is bad ass as a comm
-
I R the best comm evar!!!
It says so right here
<----
I would say RAD is one kick ass comm

Majin's post comes from this game we were playing on eclipse. also the first time i've met majin. he was comming, super affable fellow :) and some marines were complaining that the comm SUX!! OMG!! and majin was like "i'm not very good at comming, i hate it". he repeated this in different variations about 20 times. hence, every time i see majin i say "so , majin, i hear you like comming!!"
-
A fun time was had by all that day.
But I have tryed comming again and again since 1.1 and I think out off all the REAL games I have commed I may have won 1 out of 50 or so attemps.
The Sad thing is I like to try to comm, but I hate it at the same time. No one listens to me, the team I am facing is always filled with 2 or 3 SUPER skulks who rape my poor aimless marines and I seem to end every game being held up in Main base just prolonging the game.
I commed twice today... DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!! :help:
-
i commed once today, and relocated thrice :o
-
This was back in the 1.45 days. I had a bad day for reloc.
I placed my new CC and it sank through the floor....
I placed a 2nd one in a different spot, it snak through the floor...
I Placed a 3rd attempt and it stayed, But when later we found out if you tryed to leave the comm chair you would be stuck in a wall, so that failed also... :help:
-
i commed once today, and relocated thrice :o
Best relocations ever... Started for Lava catwlk, changed to BIO. Successful relocate. Set up PG base at Furnace, lose bio, relocate furnace. Then we relocated back to Marine start (I think, memories are bad). Great fun!
-
nah, it was planned for reloc. on lava catwalk, then i noticed a guy in bio("that might be a bit better spot"), we reloc. there.
Then we lose bio, reloc. to Spawn.
We lose spawn, reloc. to furnace. and then we died there
-
Go Ben cara fade hax tbh! :D
-
I commed on Hara today and for the first time since 1.45 I Won a game.
It had alot to do with the fact my team listened to me for once and I had some great shooters also. We controlled almost all the nodes for almost all the game.
I placed Phase Gates in Key Locations and We were able to stop them from enjoying a 2nd Hive, due to the fact I took it down only seconds after it went up!
This win made me so HAPPY! :D
W00t <3
-
I was there, great comming <3
We had like 300res at the end
-
More than 475, at one point
-
Dev kicked are fade letting you guys control the map so lucky you majin congrats :p
-
Ahh Gelion, Right around the timeI started to destroy the Hive in Data, an Onos Showed up and started to rape my team. But We killed him, and went on to destroy the Hive.
Your Fade wouldn't have done much. I had enough res to drop everyone a HA,JP,HMG,SG,WELDER,and GL twice over.
I was a res whore.
-
the reason we had some must res is evangelion rushed the advanced armory, we had to rebuild and re-upgrade it.
