I never actually had a Dreamcast... It is all entirely possible that there were several quality titles for it, the point stands however that N64 and PS were both flooded with increadible titles thier entire duration, and it is difficult to compeate in a market that claims dominance like that.

Ahem.

AHAHA*snip*

The PSX was, yes, but to claim that the N64 did is probably one of the funniest jokes i've ever heard. I'm gonna tell that joke to my friends tonight, we'll have a great time laughing about it together!

I would say the N64 died on it's feet, but it didn't, only with titles like Goldeneye, OoT and Mario 64 did it even manage to raise it's head out of the gutter for a brief period. The N64 just stopped selling, the games weren't selling, and they just weren't making quality games that appealled to the market. The PSX offered games for any and all tastes and ages, and the games were bigger, brighter, longer and boasted much higher quality than the N64 could ever offer, due to previously mentioned hardware and media limitations. Stop looking at the console with rose tinted glasses, it was technologically retarded and had a mere handful of half-decent titles.

The Dreamcast, on the other hand, was a pity. It is, without a doubt, one of the best consoles ever created. I'm talking right up there with the SNES. It was cheap, had a wide range of games (similar to the PSX's lineup), it was technically superior to anything else at the time (internet play supported, etc), and it was, on the whole, an excellent console. It just didn't sell. I'm not sure if it was because of the Saturn which came before it, but it really just didn't sell, and that was a massive shame. In all respects, the Dreamcast SHOULD have sold, it just didn't.

And finally, yes, OoT did look like ass. It lost all the style of previous Zelda games, it was also very flat, very boring looking, and was generally a huge let down. It's taken until Wind Waker for them to actually get anywhere near back to where they used to be with Zelda. In regards to both visuals and story, everything between Wind Waker and Link To The Past has been a huge disappointment to me.

And finally finally, if you never played Zelda 1-4 (Zelda 1-2, Link To The Past, Link's Awakening), your opinion on zelda is null and void. To be honest, you don't deserve an opinion on Zelda without playing any of the best games in the series. :)

Actually, what he said was "If other admins have wonderful posts like Uranium's they want to put in here, go right ahead," in response to Uraniums three page, informative, well thought out post.  I hardly think by "wonderful" posts he meant snide, threatening, one-sentence posts like:

You have a real problem with authority don't you.

*section removed because of vulgerness * Hoots wasn't being threatening, he was stating a fact. If someone says something that pisses you off on the forums, it's probably also going to piss you off on the server as well.

You have a deep set inability to read and understand most things, don't you?

And now, to balance out Scooter-Blue's irrational, moronic attitude, i for one welcome hoots to this thread and invite him to make any comments he so wishes to. You know why? Because i respect hoots as a player and a good person, not because he's an admin. I personally would read anything that he has to say ** Another section removed**

Personally i think he should just get life in prison with no chance of parole and not the death penalty.

I'm opposed to capital punishment as a whole, it's just so wrong, nobody (Barring the Boondock Saints) has the right to take the life of someone else, which applies both in the case of taking a life through murder, or taking a life through a decision to issue the death penalty.

If someone's done something that ultimately :Ded up, also, what's the point in just killing them. Sure, they're not leeching taxpayer money for the rest of their lives, but at least you have the comfort in knowing that for the rest of their life they will be in a living hell, and for murder, they deserve that far more than the "easy way out" of capital punishment. It's one of the cases where i would say that "death is too good for them".

But as for the lack of solid evidence, yeah, that's a tad worrying. You can have character witnesses or assumptions up to the arse, but without solid proof, you can't just sentence someone like that, but at least from what i read, the process of working through the backlog of death row where he is will take some decades, and if any evidence proving his innocence does crop up, he's got a long as hell time to prove it, it's not like they're taking him outside the courtroom and killing him there.

Archi, you missed Wind Waker, another fairly decent offering of Zelda goodness to the GC.

And no Isamil, i hated OoT, it was boring, didn't "feel" like Zelda and it looked like ass. By this time i was already hating my N64. Actually, by the time i was halfway through Mario 64 i was about ready to take the POS back and buy something decent.

I'm a child of the Spectrum, NES and SNES, not these new fangled X-ey Boxeys or Game Squares, and whilst the elitist "Older is better" attitude may seem a bit annoying, it's also very true, well, in the case of the older console franchises like Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Contra, it's very true at least.

AO are offering, for free, the client and a year's subscription to AO (Not including expansions) free of charge and all they require is that you sign up for an account before the 15th Jan, but that doesn't matter, as it's free. :)

Other conditions being that you'd have to pay for the expansions if you want them, it only lasts until 1/1/2006 and they reserve the right to terminate the thing at will, but who cares, it's still free. :D

So get downloading. The client's only 800mb, and it's free. :)

Did i mention it's free? :p

YOU DARE SPEAK POORLY OF MARIO 64?  The game was amazing!
I'm not saying its better or worse then SMB3, but it ruled.
Zelda:OoT may be the best game ever.

Now, i'll forgive such blasphemy due to the fact you were only about 2-3 years old when Zelda 3 come out for the SNES.

Zelda: A Link To The Past is the best Zelda game, bar none, if anyone says otherwise, they're most likely mentally handicapped, and you shouldn't be ridiculing them. Also, Mario 3 and Super Mario World are by FAR the best Mario games ever released, Mario 64, Mario Sunshine are cheap knock-offs.

Nintendo went downhill with the N64, it was an apalling console, but in the GC they made up for it, there's some pretty decent games and it's a relatively cheap console too.

Just to warn everyone, don't bother with the HL2 speed run. It's literally just that, running. Barely any tricks or cool stuff, and considering i spent forever downloading the high res version (1.4gb), i felt pretty much let down. :)

One thing, for those of you uninitiated in the ways of speed runs, download Quake Done Quick, probably my favourite speed run. The entire thing done in 12 minutes, it's something you need to see. :)

If you consult a dictionary, you'll find that it's actually spelled "worst" and not "best". Sorry to be a spelling nazi, but that's one of the worst typos i've seen in a long time.

General / HL2 AI movie
« on: December 12, 2004, 08:23:46 PM »
I've yet to see any AI impress me, including HL2. To be honest, i don't really expect much in the way of AI when it comes to games, when it all comes down to it, it's all hide behind rock or open door. Now, when it comes to locking a door on an enemy, only to have an enemy run off, phone a hire company, rent a bulldozer, wait for delivery, get in said bulldozer and knock down the building you're in, THEN i'll be impressed.

Half-Life 2, Farcry, Halo 2, Doom 3, infact, anything with any shred of AI, i've not been impressed by a single one, but then again, if you're just playing games to bitch about the AI, maybe you should stop playing games. :)

But as an exception to the above statement, if it's something really retarded, as my teammate in Halo 2 who spent 5 minutes driving around in circles because he obviously didn't know how to stop the warthog, sometimes the AS (Actual Stupidity) stands out a little more than the AI.

Well, dispite a small cock up with ATI's control panel (screen resolution is now 640x480 in 4bit colour), the computer's running fine. As for SP 4 and the likes, i didn't have them, and had no access to them, so it wasn't an option. So come 3am i thought :D it and we dragged the box back to my place and started the XP install without a single problem in all the world.

Did a 3dmark05 on it, as well as on my own machine. Mine ran like crap, as to be expected, and i never thought i'd see a machine run it with pretty decent framerates, as this one is. I want this computer. :)

The specs, for anyone interested.

Athlon 64 3000
1GB Corsair PC3200
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
120gb 7200.7 SATA Seagate Baracuda
Asus K8N-E nForce 3 Socket 754

Now starting a paypal account so you bastards can donate and buy me one too. :)

Glad to know that it's not my problem then. This has happened on two machines that i've built and it's a bit worrying, to be honest.

Bleh.

XP Home is now on there anyway and, dispite lacking mobo drivers atm, working fine. :)

« on: December 11, 2004, 09:16:27 PM »
Ok, so, today i've been building my g/f's computer, after minimal hassle, i started to install win2k, all's going well, installed fine, great. Installed mobo and video drivers and things are all cool. Get it online, hit windows update then we ran off to see a movie. Cut to a few hours later.

The computer is riddled with viruses. All i'd installed not on properly pressed (and completely legal, i might add) cds were FireFox and winrar. Both of which were downloaded from reputable sites, and the exact same files that i have running on my computer with no viruses whatsoever.

So this is what i need to ask, is a clean install of win2k on brand new hardware really so susceptible to viruses? I'd not been able to ascertain what viruses they were exactly as they were overflowing the box and effectively stopping you from running anything, let alone do anything on the internet or install software (so both windows update and installing a virus scanner were out of the question).

This has basically forced me to install WinXP Home over, what i believe to be, the more superior win2k pro, which i'm none to happy about.

That last stand was funny, what with that empty shotgun kicking about the vent and the welder being passed along the chain. It's ridiculous how many kills we got, i picked up about 10-15 kills alone just in that vent, i guess that's only because they didn't notice the upgrades outpost. Silly aliens. :)
