It doesn't look dead enough.

The only good spiders are dead spiders.

Maybe they could've left ns.org running until the UWE site was ready?

lolfighter wins.  Maybe they could have left the forums how they were until they got the new version working instead of letting the community deteriorate for two months.

And yes, we know the UWE team has families and wants to spend time with them, but it takes a few minutes to keep the front page updated.  No, I don't need my hand to be held through every step of the development process, but personally I'd appreciate occasional updates about why the community for my favorite game has been shut down for a couple months.

I'd appreciate you shutting the hell up.

Do you ever read what you type? Do you have any idea how you sound? You're all me me me, take take take, give me more, i'm more important. How about you let the developers have a break over Christmas just like you most likely have done? How about you sit back and let them do the work rather than being some whiner on the sidelines?

And no, the site (the forums, which we all mean) couldn't be left up. The forum databases were also moving servers, to do that they need the database to be static and not changed. If the forum was left open until the day they moved it, you'll find a hell of a lot of posts going missing because the database they transfer is a day or two out of date.

Also, when it comes to server changes and implementation of new systems around old ones, bugs happen, they can only be tackled when they happen, you can't foresee every little bug or error that will occurr, if you could, you'd probably be a millionaire by now.

In short: Shut up.

I, for one, will be boycotting the NS site and Forums because they didn't wish me a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

How difficult is it to set up one of the IPB news scripts, and give us a post once in awhile saying what's happened since the last update.  The changelogs from 1.0->1.1 were nice

The thing is, they're entirely integrating the site, the forums, the icon databases (CM, PT icons, etc) and god knows whatever else into one big site, it's by no means a small feat.

Add also that rather than just starting afresh with all of this, they're also transferring the epic sized forums database to a new server, and are integrating the existing community into the new setup.

The site was done, and working fine (CM's got a chance to test out the site months and months ago), so i very much doubt that any delays or problems were at all expected, it's all new issues that have cropped up as and when they happen.

Ontop of any bugs, errors, problems or whatever that have occurred during the implementation of the new site, it's also just been christmas and new years, they have families too, they have friends as well, and just because they're not catering for your every need 24/7, doesn't mean they're lazy or incompetant. And yet another issue, they no longer have a dedicated web developer, so all the issues with the site are being tackled by Flayra et al, as WELL as working on the new version and playtesting.

Be patient, the forums will return, the site will be back, yes they missed a deadline, but really, you're acting like a bunch of smack addicts. Go outside, meet up with friends, play NS, go on IRC, anything, just quit whining about the forums.

And so it happened, on a trip to Tesco to buy alcohol with friends, browsing the shelves of bizarre drinks, there it was.

Goliath.

With a bottle proclaiming it was "Mighty Ale" and a label which used words like "challenging", "towering might", "powerful" and "brave", i knew this was the drink for me.

All the way through to the gamecube? Hah! The N64 was dead long before then. You're kidding nobody but yourself by your repeated claims that the N64 is God's gift to consoles. You have to consider here that Nintendo were following on from 2 of the most highly acclaimed consoles of all gaming history, the NES and SNES, a tough act to follow, and they very nearly ended up in ruins because of it.

Compare this to the PSX, released in 1994 (Japan release), up until the very minute the PS2 was released in 2001, there were still games coming out for it, hell, they even released and sold games AFTER it was made redundant by it's bigger brother. That's 7 years it lasted, how long did the N64 last? Released in 1996 and, yes, they released games until the GC's release (November 2001), although they were mediocre (See: Conker's bad fur day and Madden 2002), only about 4-5 games were released in the entire YEAR of 2001, also, only one game was released in the latter half of 2001. The N64 was essentially dead on it's feet by late 1999. Now i can name 3 PSX releases that happened after the PS2's release (FF Origins, FF Anthology, FFVI), how many games were released after the GC's release? Oh, that's right, none.

Could you please show me how the N64 "nearly put them in ruins"?

Also one of the best games for the N64 was released after the Game Cube: Paper Mario, which I have yet to hear a bad word spoken of.

I'm not quite sure what you’re getting at here, you claim the 64 was a horrible system that nearly ruined Nintendo then you offer nothing to back up your claims other then "They didn't release enough games after their new system came out".

:D adobe acrobat. Loading a 50 page financial report from nintendo.com crashed it, time to retype all of this post.

Paper Mario, for a start, was released in February 2001, as you can read in nintendo.com's official N64 release list. And the GCN was released in North America on the 18th November 2001, which you can check with gamespy.com's GCN timeline.

In 2001, Nintendo announced a 43% drop in profits, partly blamed on the Nintendo 64's poor sales (source). In 2000 they announced a 20% drop in profits. (source), once again pointing to the N64 In this article it also goes on to claim a 35% profit loss due to poor N64 sales, back in 2000.

Nintendo's saving grace was their domination (~47%) of the hand held market, and their ability to peddle knock-off pokemon games to kids with more money than sense.

EDIT: Also, if memory serves me right, the N64, whilst it officially ceased production around September 2001, was already off of store shelves by late 2000-early 2001.

but as things stand it remains nothing more then a small stain on the N64's 5 minutes of (semi-)fame.

Edited for accuracy.

Provided those 5 minutes encompass from the moment of the N64's release till the announcement of the Game Cube. Also provided that you know very little about the subject and got lost in the forums and accidentally clicked on this topic, therefore making your claim of semi-fame irrelevant, then yes I suppose your information can then be considered accurate.

Urgh. It's funny how they're making money based on the things they stand against.

Masturbate too much? Buy a save the kittens t-shirt for $15!
Look at porn too much? Spend $975 for one person or $1,750 two people to get it sorted!

Excuse the blasphemy, but jesus :Ding christ. How can you charge someone $975 for a "porn addiction" (Something that isn't an addiction at all)?

Now throw in that the rest of the site is either them being arrogant or smarmy, throw in a few "WE KEEPIN' IT REAL FOR DA KIDZ" and all you have left is a pretty funny ironic website name.

I mean I have seen people banned bacause esuna accidentally misused the !admin command before;

Hey now, i used the !admin command properly, it's there to request admin assistance on the server, which doesn't mean "ban from rcon without even bothering to check, nor talking to any other admins (bob) that were looking into it".

I never got to have my say on this issue, fool just washed over it, locked the PR thread and made another thread which was nothing but a blatant coverup for the fact that HE :Ded up, not me. I was not in the wrong, i did nothing but use !admin as it was intended, if anyone is to blame for being to hasty to ban without even bothering to check, it's fool, not me.
