My friend is skeptical about downloading ns and he says he will only buy counter-strike retail just for this game. Olny problem is that he doesn't have c-s or h-l and obviously doesn;t have ns , so he can't see ns demos, so i wante to convert a demo into avi so i can show him it. My friend lives far away so i ain't taking him to my house :p

the only way i know how won't give audio, but i'm sure there are other ways.
the way i did it involves geekplay (sp?), moviemaker or something and some other program called something like ASeeDSee (i can't rememebr exactly.) basically geekplay will run the demo and make a .jpg of each frame and number it accordingly. then the ASDS thingy will convert them all to .bmp, and finally the movie maker thingy will load all the .jpgs in numerical order and compile it into certain media files.
better if you just do a search. it knows more than me... <_<

Ok, thank you :D I have been looking for a program like that :p

Thorax, That's ACDsee iirc, im sure its a C, but the rest is a bit faded.
but sadly i dont know how to convert Demo's to Avi's, but yes no sounds :/
-
yeah, ACDsee, that's what it is. ^^

fraps99 i think, will get sound and everything, but you need a beefy computer for good fps.

Official NS 2.0 Trailer (22MB DivX 5.01 req)
Get him to watch that... V nice.

I've never actually made one myself but I think I remember how to do it manually.
You have to record the demo, play it back using viewdemo (not playdemo) then record while watching it. I think the command is something along the lines of record xxx.dem 30 (30 being the amount of FPS you want to capture).
This will convert each frame into a 2.5MB bitmap so it will take up oodles of megs on your pc. Use a batch converter to change them to jpg. Then you can use Adobe Permier (or at least MS movie maker) to import your pictures to edit and add a music tract to it.
Please note I haven't done this myself and my info may be a bit off there, but afaik this is how to do it manually.
If you suceed at it can you post on how you did it for future ref?

everytime i take demos and try to view them later, they are *very* laggy (about 0.5-1 fps) anyone know how to fix this?
-
yeh I think you have to define the amount of FPS you want to use.
e.g record test.dem 30. Just to note i'm not sure if thats the 100% correct command for getting the FPS up. When you go to record your demo to Bitmaps using viewdemo you need to specify the amount FPS. Most people use 30 and then get a batch converter to change them to Jpeg, stitch it together using adobe premier or MS movie maker and speed up the timeline (to get rid of any laggyness).

thats normal i believe. if you're using geekplay or whatever it's called you have to remember that it's taking a screenshot ofor every frame... >_O

If geekplay takes a screenshot out of every frame, do the screenshots go in the ns folder? And is there a way you can change the directory you can send it to?

Actually, I'm talking about the ingame demoviewer "console cmd: play", its really crappy playback
As for the batch job, how do you make batch jobs? where can I get an example one?
