Title: My first time…
Post by: GrayDuck on February 09, 2005, 12:15:06 PM: So this is a show I’ve always wanted to go to, and this week my husband surprised me with tickets to a performance of it. It is a college (http://www.mondaviarts.org/events/1detail.lasso?id=1430) production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Basically all I know about it is that I LOOOOOOOVE the sound track, I have an odd addiction to it – it’s one of those CDs that if I were trapped on an island, I’d want to have it with me. Yeah, I’m weird. But I have heard that various performances of it got really involved with audience participation, and if you didn’t quite ‘fit in’ you got pulled up on stage and ridiculed. I’m not sure what to expect, I’m just uber excited.

Anyways, the point of this post. I am a very ‘normal’ looking person, and it has crossed my mind that this is the type of thing you dress up (err down?) for – as in goth. What should I be expecting? Any apparel / makeup suggestions? Should I watch the movie first or will the play be pretty self explanatory?

The movie ITSELF is pretty odd, and watching it is even odder. I really suggest watching the movie to get primed.

I myself haven't seen the RHPS but dress gothy, black, fishnets, etc. Watch that one drew carry episode where they all dress up and go see the rocky horror picture show and have the dance fight infront of the theatre. That should give you *plenty* of ideas

Plus watching the movie first shouldn't hurt to much

Oh and... I am THISSSS close to having Mr Duck convenced that he at a minimum needs to wear eyeliner! >:D

Post by: GrayDuck on February 27, 2005, 08:59:18 PM: So it was last night. I tried renting the movie to prepare, but my block buster doesn’t carry it. So yeah….

I wore all black (skirt, top, etc..) nothing crazy – and I did my makeup really dark, lots of eyeliner and dark eye shadow. Mr. Duck had nothing to wear so he went in black pants and a wife-beater >_> and I put lots of eye-liner and mascara on him.

We got there early, and woooweeee what people watching fun I had. Some guys and girls were in nothing but underwear! I saw all sorts! They sold a kit as you walked in for $5 and it contained some audience interaction stuff (rice, cheap flashlight thingie, a handful of toilet paper, and a couple playing cards). The only thing I really did was flashed my flashlight and throw the rice.

I wish I had accompanied my more gothish friends to the midnight rocky horror shows back while I was in college. There was a lot of audience interaction, and stuff the audience members ‘in the know’ yelled back, but I was in the dark about what, and tbh w/ everyone yelling I’m still not sure what they said a lot of the time so even if I went again today I’d look just as much like a nub.

Bottom line: it was great, a good experience that everyone should do at least once!
