Those true epic games, those two-hour-long Bast stalemates, are without a doubt my favorite.
Games like this have given my my best memories.

Same.
No-one's going to remember a quick win with a shotty rush, or a simple siege with heavies. What people WILL remember are situations which don't happen often - such as, amazing comebacks, or non-stop back-and-forth map control, and such.
I still remember one of the first few games that I've played in NS, 3 hours long, on ns_nothing. Constant back-and-forth; we ended up winning in the end. At one point, the aliums were down to 1 gorge and a hive going up, and the Marines at one point had 2 heavies with no base, just a CC to build in a hive.
That was a great game.
Is there a particular reason for this?

Just simple curiousity. One often reads war stories about epic battles, and gets the general sense that most NS players like the longer game, yet the dev team seems to be moving towards an ideal time frame, something shorter, something more palatable to the common gamer (i'm guessing).

Need I say more?
I miss the 6 hr long games of 1.04. Those were fun. It wasn't the marines camping outside the hive, it was an intense struggle between both teams, which is what made it fun. 6hr games were nice, you would have pretty much both teams composed of mostly new players by the end. Hell, you could even leave for awhile, come back and find the same game going on. You just don't see that anymore.. I miss it.

I've only seen one game longer than 4 hours since b5. It was on a small French server, and it wasn't even a real "epic" game; there were about 4 players on (all of which knew each other). They were AFK here and there, and turret farms were the main reason for the longetivity of the game.
The last "epic" game I had - more than 2 hours - was on ns_nothing, back in 2.0, one of them versions. It wasn't constant turret farming, but non-stop back and forth action. I'm not looking to have that all the time, but I would love to have that here and there. I don't like 10 min games; 20 games are what occurs all the time, unfortunately. It's usually the same thing if Marines win: Marines get lots of res -> Aliens manage to get 2nd hive up -> Marines take out 1st or 2nd hive -> Aliens get a fade or two, maybe advance back on Marines -> Marines have enough res for heavy train, march to last hive, destroy it.
What I'm looking for it is 30-40 minute games. It should not be possible to tell who's going to win a game within 10 minutes.
He didn't really write all that, it is modified quotes from movies :p
First one is from Independence Day, second one... I can't quite place but I recognize the "they'll never take our freedom" part and the couple lines before it.

I knew that, silly. :p
What about that one time Bill led a hopeless JP rush out of our besieged base.
What was it he said,
"Foul deeds awake! Now for wrath! Now for ruin! And the red dawn!"
Yeah, we won that one actually. HD came in from the east with his flashlight on.

Ah, but were you looking to the east?
