This doesn't really fit in HL2 spoilers and I wanted everyone to see it, so here you go. If someone sees a reason to move it, go ahead. I don't have to worry about those hard moderation decisions here.  <3

Now, go get garry's mod (http://www.garry.tv/garrysmod/) for hl2. It allows you to just generally fool around with things... eh, it would take too long to explain.

Anyway, go get the mod. It's funcakes. You'll want this map too: http://www.pcgamemods.com/9009/ (http://www.pcgamemods.com/9009/) Remember to put it in the maps folder for garry's mod. Now post your amazing screenshots.

Edit: Map's not really needed anymore, gmod now includes a neat construct map to play around in, with a spawner for almost every ragdoll in the game. But the buildingblocks map has more interesting terrain, so go with whichever makes you happy.

Pretty much. It's got the physgun code, which was in the original plans for hl2 but was scrapped. You might remember it from the e3 physics demo movie. There's another mod called jbmod that does the old implementation of the physics gun, where you can pick stuff up and move it around and also use the alt fire to weld things together, albeit with some difficulty. Garry's mod foregoes that and switches the crossbow to a welding gun. Shoot one thing, shoot another, they're welded. This lets you create big neat objects out of lots of physics props.

But the physgun has been changed in Garry's mod to allow to you move things around and then freeze them in place with the alt fire. With ragdolls, you can manipulate each individual bit of the skeleton, and then freeze them, allowing you to make all sorts of neat little dioramas. The pics I've got only represent about five minutes of work, with some effort one could create something truly amazing.

By the way, this mod was invented by a chap named (surprise) Garry, a Something Awful forums member. Credit where credit is due! (And you thought SA was only good for photoshops and goatse references)  ;)

After seeing how well all of you did with this mod and the incredibly amusing/perverted things you've made, I think it's time I contrast that with what I've managed to do so far with this mod.

The very first thing I managed to do was impale myself with the giant dumpster, which I shall reenact for your enjoyment.

Me: "Oh cool it's that messed up blue gravity gun from the end of HL2. I bet I can pull all kinds of ^^ around with it."

/me sees giant blue dumpster in the corner, runs over to it, grabs it and shoots it in the air.

Me: "Hmmm I wonder if I put god mode on.."

Unfortunately the dumpster killing me and the screenshots being taken at the same time seems to be too much for my computer to handle and it locked up.
I rebooted and decided to try and make a nifty comical/pornographic scene like the ones I saw here...how hard could it be?

My first attempt was to make some type of comical scene that involved a combine soldier sitting on a couch...there was more to it...but I it doesn’t really matter I could never get the damn thing to sit down anyway.

Hehehe, I know that after checking out this thread and using the mod, it was almost impossible not to, Swift.  First I created the best long-distance travel vehicle ever.  Then, of course, I succumbed to temptation with Alyx.  Afterwards I had fun hanging people from filing cabinets, and stacking headcrabs.

Maybe once I get my webspace fixed up I can post all of 'em.  You're right though Sonic, this is an amazing playground.  Great job with the bike ride and the dragging cart, that brought me to tears!

may seem to. give it quite a bit to load the first time, it had to build some nodegraph or the like. then it runs fine =) i thought new game froze it for so long, but i let it load once and it loads faster now(w/ the node built)

Edit: You're not supposed to start a new game, it just crashes. Go into console and type "map gm_construct"

Ahh that looks good.... so my first step was to test various engines and see what would work.

Hmm.. not enough thrust. Plus, the entire construct began to twist and freak out completely.

Assuming that the twisting meant I had lots of thrust but not JUST enough, I added some booster tanks.

I first tested it and it had too much vertical thrust, and the front end flew up. It tossed me out of the car, then the two-timing kill-mobile landed and smeared me. I BARELY managed that shot, it was flying so fast.

i was playing the new version of garrys mod with a friend tonight online.. it was awesome. we took the airboat, attached some jet tanks to it and made random ramps around the map, it rocked. one person gets into the airboat and the other turns on engines and helps control with the physgun :)

I have found the secret to flight: Stability in Rotation! :D

the total thrust is enough for it to lift off, and with one direction being stronger, we have rotation, and thus stability (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v401/aboojumsnark/gm_construct0006.jpg)

it just flys up to the skybox, and twirls about without coming down. (unless it hits the wall)

newest version v5 owns. it has balloons! i tried to spawn the heaviest thing i could find which was some sort of cylindrical heater type deal and tried to make it float but game crashed cuz i prolly added too many balloons really fast :(

if you attach enough balloons to the airboat or buggy it floats up and if you get in you can drive around in the air. Pretty cool, now if you could only control your altitude you'd have a real airboat  :D

If you attach 4 of the highest balloons (green) to each corner of the airboat, and you go off a ramp, you basically have an airplane that descends very slowly.

Fun thing to do.

Make a bunch of rockets (the Fatcan 9000) on the ground, then release them all, so they're untethered. Then, attach another rocket to their side, making a 'T' shape. Make sure they're all lying on their sides (not standing up). Turn on your rockets and play 'Dodge the spinning deathrockets'. If you have two people you can sling em at each other and try to kill each other.


For a bonus game, have everyone stand near them, then, while they're powered up, release them. Whoever ISN'T turned to paste wins.
