We have new information regarding Half-Life 2 which will be discussed tonight on HL Radio. Live show starts at 8pm EST / 1am GMT. Valve will deliver the finished game to Vivendi Universal within a few weeks. However, Vivendi is telling us that they hope to have the game on the store shelves by the fall.

Ah good. We've got the game, what should we do with it? Release it? NAH! LET'S KEEP IT STORED IN A WAREHOUSE IN A NUCLEAR FALLOUT SHELTER UNTIL THE YEAR 2074! THERE'S A GOOD PLAN!!!!!

Any future "potential release date" should be titled a "potential delay date"!

not the point...This is still very disappointing news. It could be a blessing in disguise. On a positive note it gives me more time to upgrade my box.

And they will, but I'm gonna buy it in stores so I can have a CD, case, and manual instead of having to use a bandwidth-clogging download and glorp up more harddrive space.

hl2 will probably released like cs:cz was so ya you can purchase it and d/l it on steam or do what u235 is doing

id rather purchase it. as Uranium said itll clog up less hardrive space and youll get a handbook manual, and ull have the cd, just incase it somehow uninstalls magically or glitches. I prefer to buy my gameswith the box.

Anyhow im glad its not comming out this summer, cause then id be going out less and staying inside playing it all summer :p , and ruining a summer of crazy graduation parties would be bad <_< .

But if anything though, it POSSIBLY could be a terrorist attack and they h4xed Valves news and made their own!. I mean if you read it backwards it says " We rule the world, you all shall die, bow down to the llama of dewm.

God forbid that any information reguarding HL2 is posted on the  Offical HL2 website (http://www.half-life2.com/). Such as the news that the arrests were made on the code thieft, HL2 being shipped off to Vivendi or the HL Radio interview not posted there. But I guess that would require that Vavle be on top of its game. Which is not only never happened and will most likely never happen, but it's a gawd damn joke when they claim to be.

/me storms off in a violent fury that he has been in for the past week or so...    <_<

[edit] I'm pissed off because i check the hl2 website under the presumption that they will post things that are relevant to the game to keep the commuity informed. but as i stated above that's a joke. I would have liked to have listened to the radio interview or what it was, just for the sake of listening, but you know... valve refuses to be on top of their game... [/edit]

Well, it seems that the radioshow is doing reruns Sunday and Monday.  Unfortunately, most of the radioshow is filled with fluff.  Although they do review games, after listening for 3 hours I have yet heard any of this HL2 news.

what's a few months more? Now that it's out of the hands of Valve and into Vivendi's maybe the dates could acutally mean something? Does anyone have an offical statement from Vivendi?

Maersk Shipping offers door-to-door service around the world. You ask them to pick up your goods in a standard container, they'll send a truck by your place to pick 'em up. Because of the tight schedules their container ships run on, they'll also give you an ETA. If your goods are not delivered on that day, they shave a percentage off the price as compensation. If it's late by several days, that percentage goes as high as 100%.

Somehow I doubt that HL2 will get any cheaper because of the delays. Think about it: The more the game gets delayed, the less up-to-date will it be. Would you pay 40$ for HL1 today? No. Because it's outdated. HL2 will be a year late if it ships in the fall. It's already out-of-date by a year. Most games sell at half price or less a year after they're released. HL2, I guarantee you, won't. No matter how long we have to wait, they'll still expect us to pay full price on delivery. They made big cash off HL. If they can't complete their second game in five years, it's time to fork over some of that cash and hire more staff.

I wouldn't say that lolfighter. While I may not pay $40 for HL1, I sure as hell'd pay $150 for NS. Sure, its only a year and a half old, but its on a 12 year old engine, with a 7 or 8 year old rendering system, off of a 6 year old game.

Some things just don't get "old".

Actually it's been proven that goldfish can be trained to run a maze using repetition with a reward of food and training once a day.

Strange. I could swear goldfish have nothing to do with HL2 delays. Oh well:
An octopus is actually fairly intelligent. With bait at the end, an octopus can find its way through a labyrinth without training. They'll even get out of the water (very briefly) to climb over an obstruction. Or give 'em a crab in a jar: They'll learn how to unscrew the lid. They are comparable to rats in intelligence. Now before you snigger, let me point out that rats are fairly intelligent, social animals. And octopi don't even have bones.

Way to dig up a dead thread there, Guspaz. Although you do have a point, Doom 3 should hold us in our wait for Half Life 2 (I estimate about 3 days, depending on how long it takes some of us to beat the game).
Title: Half-life 2 Delayed Until Apocalypse?
Post by: johnjacobjingle on July 20, 2004, 08:56:08 AM
guzpaz, i have no plans to buy doom 3, mostly because i havea suspicion that it won't hold my interest for more than a couple of days, however, i have enough friends who will for sure buy the game that if my suspicions are wrong(and i find this out by playing their games) then i'll jhust buy it then.   i'm feeling very cynical about these games taht are to be coming out, hell even hl2 i'm feeling a little iffy about getting excited about :-/, mostly because of the whole it being a year old thing.  *shrugs*.  i guess i just got nofaith?  but not expecting much and being pleasantly surprised is better than expecting the world and being disappointed.

Half Life 2 could have one of the worst single-player stories ever (which I very highly doubt it will), but I'd still play it because I'm a major online gaming freak. Hell, I still haven't finish the original Half Life single player. Although I know how it ends anyway since LB liked to switch maps on the Sven server to the final boss battle, among other things. The only games that I play that are offline are the 2 Grand Theft Auto titles. I have Morrowind, but I never could get into it very much.

Its not coming out for AT LEAST another 6 months i dont care what valve says. Their pushing my buttons with their very bad marketing tricks and you all are following them by freaking out that its gona be released soon. Its way too much for them to code and map, although there is a large portion done.

And i know im gona get yelled at by a couple dozen fanboys but thats just how it is D:

Supposedly their bug list will be down to about 0 in just over two weeks.. I can only assume from there they will ship off their first RC.. Just a bit off their previously planned time of the end of July, but still okay..
First RC won't go gold.
Then, you have 2 or 3 weeks before the next one. So about, mid to late august.
That one might not go gold. There is a chance though. 2 or 3 weeks later
You have the third RC. Mid September now.
Now, I have the feeling RC3 will go gold. I mean, if Valve has been doing as extensive testing as they claim, it may just go gold.

Lets also consider the CS:S Beta supposedly comes out on the 10th of August.
Considering that, I have to push back the second RC.. I mean, it has been stated that the CS:S beta is just a way of getting the engine out there for mass testing.. and chances are someone will stumble onto a couple big error with the engine... That'll delay it a bit.. hopefully not much though.
So, say it gets put back a week. Right? That pushes the Third RC into Late September..
Which gives you the odd feeling that Valve is going to get it out on that special day of September 30th.. just, a year late.
Not too bad considering the original Halflife got delayed a year too.  ;)

ANeM is correct.

And I'm willing to bet RC1 WILL BE the thing the big CS playtest will get. Its only gonna be 1 map, so its obvious its just for engine testing, so were still quite a bit away.
