General / See, the comm needs help too.
« on: May 28, 2005, 03:34:09 PM »
The comm has the same responsibility as the GROUP of marines on the map, you cant single out the comm as being the same importance as one marine. Commanders give you your res towers, tf's, meds, ammo, ect, while soldiers out in the field have to build and shoot, yeah, i think comm's are a bit more important than the soldier. For the simple fact i commanded a game with only 2 marines vs 4 kharra, the entire game, and we won. Now the marines i had we're not LM regs, they weren't that great at aiming, and didnt go to their waypoints half the time, but since i was comm i gave them meds, an rt i thought would be valuable, locked down seige locations, and finally took down the hive with heavy weapons.

Whoever steps in the commanders chair should know they are as important as the GROUP of marines on the field, not just one or 2 soldiers. To say the comm is important only to a beginning extent is a bit, well, in my opinion not true at all.

Mid-game the comm has a very important role, usually at this point there is at least 1 or 2 fades, a hive either going up or being MC rushed, usually you cant just send your rines a wp there and have them run in, almost all the time that happend marines end up loosing. If the commander doesnt have a plan on a seige or sg rush attack or such, the soldiers are basically just wandering cattle for the aliens to gorge upon.

IMO thats what makes the marines in Natural Selection so fun to play, the commander is as important as ALL the soldiers on the same team, and if BOTH dont work together, well, the kharra will have lots of teeth to floss.

Remeber, the Commander basically has the most strategic plan to unfold, the aliens all decide together, where as the comm does not, and sends HIS or HER waypoints for the rines to follow, followed by a usual structure drop.

Just remeber to always drop us meds and ammo when we ask.

i've always been a monkey, climbed every tree in the neighborhood over 10 times easy, used to take my dog out for a walk in my rollerblades, hehe, dodging traffic's fun. Which brings me to the first part of the name, i've always been the guy who does the thing no one thinks can be done, usually i suffer the consequences, but thankfully im older and dont do that shinto anymore lol.

Sitting in class i had those kinda thoughts running through and came up with a nickname which carried me through high school  :D

Having at least 1 marine phasing through the pg's you have up and alerts you if he's under attack does alot for that mid game moment you speak of. The Kharra may be rushing that locked down hive to clear it out, instead of having your team phase in to a brigade of aliens, that one, ( or more ), soldier can at least give you a warning and fire a few NEEDED shots off, IMO.

Resource Towers that are electrified do very well if you hand out a few welders now and then and have a few marines top up on any damaged node, instead of leaving the rt and hoping elec can save it.

Swift, thats why i posted this in General and not Reserved Slot.  :p

That being said i have no idea where this could be thrown to by an admin, but i wanted the non-reserved  LM players to see this as well, since i feel there are alot of them who are great players when they're here and would only be fair to do so.

Lets say we have a tournament. Admins split up one by one and choose even teams, from their perspective, since most admins have picked up on regulars playing habits, and we have say a week of matches with a big finale?

Perhaps at the start of a game, a 5- 10 min hault in the start to discuss a stragegy, then go all out till you win. Just thinking that this is a good way to have some great competitive matches, and boost moral around the server, as of late i've noticed many people more edgy and irritable, possibly due to the season changing but none the less i wont divulge into something that clearly isnt my buisness.

I know this would be something that would probably need alot of planning before hand but i think it would be great, and im more than willing to help out in any way possible.

Since this would be organized on the admins and our time, with how much we play in the server or contribute to the forums or irc, ect, im not expecting even many replys to this lol. I bring this up because i think we'd have some very memorable matches with the people we have on this server, learn some new strats that we can use in regular matches. I'm just throwing a thought out there, wondering what everyone else thinks of this idea?

« on: May 12, 2005, 08:54:28 PM »
If only the screen could be the actual headset on the rines heads, or the kharra's eyes. Lightly tinted green, all the waypoints and dialog that could feed through the left side of the visor lets say, would be transparent so you could still see. Skulks with red eyes, gorges with green, lerks with yellow, fade and onos black and white. Different shapes for different stages of course    >:D

General / Charge or Seige
« on: May 12, 2005, 08:46:26 PM »
Marine commanders have the task of the utmost importance, so why can you sometimes decide on sending us soldiers in guns blazing, then if a marine or 2 gets killed, call us back and start a seige?

I know this sounds a little odd, but i think its a big part in why everyone is in a lil marine winning slump as of late. Depending on our upgrades and if phase tech has been researched, if you, (the commander), order your marines to charge from base or whichever location they have gathered/grouped up, drop a phase and send us in full metal, you have to expect a few casualties in this kinda work. Ordering the now, " out of ammo, requesting meds marines", back to the phase gate to build the TF, gives the aliens the ultimate counter attack, where they can kill without retaliation. Very much so with their little addition of retaining health at a few clicks a second, regardless if DC's are dropped or not.

Knowing what you want to do to an active hive helps alot more than sending us in expecting us to shoot the hive and the hive only when its most probably past 5 minutes with one lerk and one fade, then/or start a seige and ask everyone to powerbuild, everything you drop structure wise.

Sending in Marines in an active hive with weapons 2 and armor 1 with half shooting the hive and the other half shooting any Kharra that appeared would have much more of a chance bringing it down, same as seiging down a hive by having 2 or 3 Marines building, with the rest of the team making a perimiter around the structures being built. Yes, turrets help out in a seige, especially when the soldiers are reloading, i find they tend to survive the fade attacks.

Medpacks and ammo packs are a definite must have in order to survive object with the Marines, especially with the gas from the lerks, and theres still some experienced commanders who dont drop meds or ammo at a time of taking down a hive, they end up having to save res for a seige due to low res flow as an example.

I'm not taking stabs at anyone's commanding style, we need to save enough res for meds and ammo on top of the structures that need to be dropped.

I did not base this on one person's decisions in the chair, i've done these things as a commander before, and not just once. Its seems like a habit that has the marines dumbfounded as of late. Obviously this is just my opinion and could have not one thing to do with the imbalance as of late, but i just found it odd that the more i thought of it the more it made sense. What do you soldiers think of it? Maniacal i am as usual, i ask for your Commanding / Grunt reply's.   ^_^

Books are intended to take your mind through what the author is trying to tell.

Movies are intended to take your sight through what the director wants you to see.

These two never really mix because most directors make a book into a movie because they fell it can be better in little things that could only be added on through "his" or "her" vision. Then theres books which are written for ones who like or love to read, to take you to another realm, and so forth.

Then out of the blue, there are directors that love the book the way it was intended to be, and make movies exactly along the lines of the book.

Best Book Adaptation I've Seen = Lord of the Flies

Worst Book Adaptation I've Seen = Battlefield: Earth movie

You can handle the treament, your more powerful than this bastard, dont let the fact you have something wrong inside you bring you down, never give up, and you will win regardless of the outcome, nothing in the world can stop you now.

My mother passed away from cancer last year, and the doctor says i will end up getting it, i already have a chemical imbalance in my brain, but i will beat it, as you will beat your hep-c, its our only choice, and chance, to fight.

Who else is gonna kick my ass with style?

Everyone has their own reason why they play NS, im curious as to what you love about the game that keep you playing almost day to day?

My reason is beacuse of the different species, Marines have a very different equipment and stratagies, and have to think on their toes more than, lets say, finding as many heads as you can with a sniper in CS.  The aliens because of their abilities and tecniques, more animalistic than other mods yet brutal at the same time, with some sneaking thrown in.  The battles are more strategic and the Commander aspect kicks royal kharra entrails

To me i find this to be much better than picking off zombies who waddle towards ya  ^_^

General / Recent Reserved Slot removals

This had me thinking alot on numerous subjects, in which i found seem to all connect together, and this is just my own feelings.

We are all Humans, we all have our own Personality's, we all have a Life outside a computer.  In life we grow up to learn to have respect for other people, even if its hidden away. "Thank you", "Can i get that for you?", "how are you?", are all examples of phrases we use to show our respect to another person.

On the computer, people tend to loose that respect normally because you arent interacting with the other person other than typing or playing games. They see it as an oppurtunity to demean others in ways.  They either are the same person outside the computer or may not even attempt such in a face to face enviroment. Not on the Lunixmonster though.

This is a face to face enviroment, and your reactions to the admins on this decision have made me sick to my stomach. The admins are not robots, they dont calculate in binary for every word or every thought that comes from their keyboard or microphone, they are the same as me and you.

We all get angry at different things, we all have tolerance for different things, we all love different things, its who we are. Just because someone is labled with "admin", and given the jobs as such one does, doesnt make them invulnerable to other people's actions.  They make their decisions based on the Server Rules for the community's benifit. That doesnt mean their right to be themselves is taken away.

We all are a family here, we have these reserved slot because we love this community, and respect the ideals of those rules, we respect the admins for making sure we have a great time playing a game we all love, above all, we respect eachother.  But if an admin posts about someone loosing a reserved slot, and everyone who know the players are, either friends, or like their style of playing, what ever your reason is,  it is no ones fault but the one's who lost their slots. Especially not the admins.

This reminds me of when Seth was banned.  He was the same along the lines of Esuna and Sonic, spoke his mind without hesitation most of the time, great player, befriended alot of people, but many time swore "towards a person", not just swearing, recyling base when he deemed the game over. Then, if i remember correctly, he CC blocked at the end of a game with about 5 CC's before jumping out, after which he came back and defended his decision to break the rules. I am not defending or accusing him or the decision, but merely stating a point.

We have such great games, good friendships, and such fun on here because of many things.  Such as, the rules in place, the admins watching over everyone, joking around without making discriminating comments about each other, grouping up and owning on other games, hehe. Everyone has a great experince playing here because of the discussion we have other than in game, such as here in the forums or IRC.

I am not here to have someone make fun of me based on a kill by the other player, or a decision made in the field or as commander. I do not play on this server to have someones anger towards whatever reason be subjected to people trying to have a good time.

Swearing AT someone, ( ******* MONKEY *** **** YOU ****), and Swearing, (****), after a kill or a structure taken down are 2 very different things.

I hope you earn back your res slots Esuna and Sonic, we all want to be owned by you again, but not if its going to be the same attitude towards others who dont "do" what you want them to.

General / What would you want to see in Source version?
« on: May 06, 2005, 11:49:06 AM »
Close Slink, but if my memory serves me in any way I believe I brought up that idea here on LM on the subject of a weapon replacement.    :p
Heh, as you mention it for the source, it would make a definite increase for the marine arsenal. With that lil devil source engine i could see the flamethrower bending around corners if used in a small hallway. Though if it were to happen we'd have to be realistic, in the sense that it would have to have the width of an hmg for ex, with a range of say 15 feet, after which it would just dissipate. Most likely it would be best suited to replace the shotgun. LOL, i just had a picture in my head of a skulk charging a marine after the flamethrower was used and the skulk just a big fireball screaming towards ya, hahaha.

In the Source version i'd love to have lerks have absolute free range flying abilities. That being said, i'd also say, if the lerks going full speed and hits a wall or a box, it should do damage to itself. Attacking a marine would go with that as well, which would cause damage to both lork and rine. Also, i think lerk lift should be added in. To do that, i'll just throw in my idea to do it. A skulk would weigh the lightest besides the lerk, so it would be easiest to carry them, but instead of just pressing the "use" key and flying away, the lerk should have to hit jump on a one second basis to carry him, and thats all the lerk can do while holding the skulk, they could go high up because of the weight. Gorges would take every half a second, where  as a fade or and onos would have to be at LEAST , ah crap i cant think of how many seconds it is but hitting "jump" 4 times every second....oh, ahh, every quarter of a second...? They wouldnt be able to be flown higher than a rines head for instance, because of their weight.  Anyways thats all i can think of right now seeing as my eyes are still opening up from waking up, to be blunt.....

I WANT KAMAKAZIE LERKS

If the choice goes towards the paperwork for god knows what ever reason, make sure you get a pre-nup...

oh, and heres some advice i look at life with, keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer. If your friendship gets destroyed because of a piece of machine, its not worth it, because he wont change for you and you wont change for him. Just tell him, your gonna have to eventually. Whether its when you suck it in and tell him or he figures it out and confronts you.
