Title: Name Abbreviations
Post by: Niteowl on July 27, 2004, 02:27:02 PM
ok, we've all been in a game where we need a regs attention, and have all used various abbreviations of ppl's names. what do you use, what do you prefer? what have you heard ppl call you?

for me, i hear 'nite' all the time, which i don't mind, i also don't mind 'owl', as that differentiates me from the millions of NightWolf, NightHawk, NigthWhatever folks out there. i've also heard 'gramps', 'the old guy', whatever :D

here are some abbrev i use!

bob
sati
sancho
hd
anar

er, drawnig a blank here, help me out guys ;D

It's 'Zed' and you can thank those godless brits for that. They can't accept the proper, godly, humane pronounciation of Z as 'zee'. They insist on sticking with their heathen perversion, pronouncing it 'zed'.

Could we just categorize you all as 'non-american' and therefore 'freaks of nature' and get on with bombing anyone who doesn't look, talk, or smell like us?

I go by Sati, Sat (although that commonly gets confused with satcomm), Satia. I'd prefer it if people didn't try to type out my full name if they don't know how it's spelled.

Post by: Grimm on July 27, 2004, 05:25:27 PM
My name is perfect as it is.  B)

I don't always call everyone by their full moniker, and the "abbreviated" nicknames aren't always abbreviated much, but they always seem to fit well enough. Anarki, Niteowl, Dubb, Diablus, and Bob all fit well and aren't a pain to type. Some people are fortunate enough to have a name that I can make a new nick-name out of, like how I call Holy_Devil Holy-D. I've been fortunate enough with Grimm to be called Grimmus (AgentOrange was the one who originally started calling me that, if I recall correctly), and everyone else seemed to go with it, so that solved my problem of constantly losing Grimm in IRC.

johnny boy

john
j^3 to the h s

then there's "stab face" which asal so lovingly calls me when i decide to knife all those damned aliums.

...there are more i just can't remember
as to which is my favorite?  mary or johnjacob work just fine.  you'll be bant for mic spamming if you try to say my whole name ;-)

[edit]your name may be only 4 letters, but is it pronounced "gee fee"  or "geef" i've never really known.[/edit]
Title: Name Abbreviations
Post by: Jefe on July 27, 2004, 07:59:03 PM
It's a spanish word, so the J is pronounced like you would an H

That's why it says "Hehfay" in the sig, you see.

You will be called JJ

I never really quit a game, I just stop playing and never start again, even if I try to start playing again generally the game just fails to pull me back.  NS has by far survived the most recurances, then soon after Earthbound, Chronotrigger, DoD, and HI.  Most games I will play for a good month or so, and then stop cold turky until the end of time.  If I ever get back into old games I'm gonna have ALOT of fun as I probably have like 50 absolutly golden titles laying around...

BM, there is only humor in "yet another vet" if said vet acts like being a vet makes him special, or that it means anything other than a stupid yellow thing next to your name.

only people who haven't accepted the vfact that being a vet is nothing special anymore would be humorous to call "yet another vet"

I can be a statistic, that I don't mind.  What I do mind is being called just another vet, because most vets are dumb, egotistical, arrogant, and entirely a pain.  I'd rather not be thought of that way.  Sure, I joke around, but I'm no different from the rest of you, and I know that.
