I bet the conversation at valve when ricochet was designed was something right along those lines too:

"Hey, how about a game kind of like tron?"

"What, you mean those cool light bike things? "

"No, no, the disks that they threw. "

"So, like a frisbee game?"

"Yeah, but with lots of decapitation. And the main point of the game is to jump, but... GET THIS: there's NO jump key! "

"Wow man, you SO crazy. "

"I know, now are you gonna bogart that crack pipe or pass it? "

"Yeah, take it, I'm just trying to refresh my creativity."

"Now, let's talk about my next plan: Single player counter-strike!"

This mod rules.

This mod has crummy netcode. Also, the ball is hard to see. Looks like it could be fun with some friends and less lag, though.

fun as hell, but i suck at it :(

it is very fun but it needs a way to work with steam and some coding for less lag

Yeah, I was very disappointed by that.  Even on WON, the pings jumped up to 200 with more than 4 players.  That is absolutely horrid.  My only guess is that the dynamic lighting that is made by the ball and the ball carrier are just too detailed and require too many resources.

But, like I said before, this mod still rocks my world.

Got to be bad programming then. An NS marine using a flashlight generates a ring of dynamic light around himself (very aggravatingly) and that doesn't lag the server to death. Neither do phase gates, or welders.

I think this would be a great mod to create on the Unreal Tournament 2003 engine.

It would sure beat the pants off that built in ut2k3 football-like game. That was fun for about five minutes...

Yeah definetly reminds me of deathball.  But I dunno about it being better.  I've played a LAN game of it 6v6 and MAN it was fun...  But I can't compare the server quantity because I've only played Deathball online once and I didn't check how many there were.

I'm not sure what it is. Vanilla UT2K3 just didn't impress me, in any mode. They were all briefly fun, then I just uninstalled it. I didn't see the point really. It just seemed so much like 'generic quake ripoff #459' No innovation. And the deathball was just a deathmatch with some bits of football thrown in. (that's american football for you european types) Kanonball doesn't have any guns, so that's a nice change. It feels a lot more like a sport of the future designed for genetically enhanced humans than just a mish mash of deathmatch, football, and basketball.

Whatever floats your boat. When I got bored of NS 1.04, I realized I hadn't been playing much 2k3, so I started it up and had a blast. Although I think its because I don't play 2k3 as religiously as I do NS that makes it fun. Its good for a shot of fast pased action, gives me a gaming adrenaline boost that I need sometimes that no other game I can think of offers me.

the problem is whoever hosts the server = winnar.

whenever you go to tackle someone hes there one second, and gone the next!

Agreed, Ut2k3 was more an insult then anything. They wanted me to pay $50 for a game which features:

1) Every single damn gun from UT, with like 1 or 2 new ones (Ooh a laser pointer!)

2) "Incredible gametypes!" like, Deathmatch, CTF, and Murderball (or whatever it was, it was a rip off of that TFC map).

3) Prettier graphics.

No, I don't think so, not at ALL. I'll chip in for 2k4, after all it has lots of new stuff, not just a :Ding copy-paste of UT with a pretty graphic engine.

Uranium is silly angsty man.

This mod looks quite cool, it'd be nice if it wasn't so laggy.

Might play it at LAN parties.

Agreed
1 - Uranium and I agreed on something? Isn't that the 7th sign of the apocalypse or somesuch?

2- I'll still be getting ut2k3 eventually, especially now that it's a bargain bin special game, since action will have it's next iteration, aut2k3, on the engine. I <3 action half life, and I played many many games of action quake 2 back in the olden days. Sadly ahl is kind of dead of late. There's maybe 5-10 people on one server playing at a given time, and not much more than that.

3 - Kanonball is still pretty fun. (like how I kept this from being totally off topic? wewt!)

me and agent play this alot

to make it lag less , put in console ...

cl_updaterate 10

and

cl_cmdrate 10

it takes our pings down to below 50 when they were over 200 without these changes !!!
