hey, im screwing around wiht a friends comp, i forget how to write files to disk ( i.e. save them) when i dont have write access to the drive. anyone remember?
-
format.
-
no silly. I can see her comp on the network, but i dont have write privledges, i want to put a text document on her desktop that says "Boo" or something. How do i bypass my lack of write-access
-
Very, very carefully :)
Depends on how its set up.. did you check to see if the IPC shares are still there? \\compname\C$ :) I think that requires admin access, try the default account on XP home "Administrator" with no password :)
-
the drives are viewable on the network, all i have to do is //friendscomp/c
no password, i just dont have privs to write
-
Go to her computer, rightclick on the C: drive, hit properties, sharing (or something like that, I got German windows). On the lower half of the window, it will say Network Sharing and Security, and there is a text box and two clicky boxes. If you hit the one that says "Share this folder", the other one does get available, it says "Network users can change files".
To complete the confusion:
-
no no no, i know how to do it with physical acess, i wanna do it from my dorm.
-
call her and lead her thru the proccess that Niteowl describes or that you said that you know. That is how you do it from your dorm :)

seriously ^^

So basically you're asking how you can alter other people's configurations for pirvacy without their permission so you can do whatever you want. Well, you have your answer and I frankly consider anything you're going to do 'from your dorm' to be a basic invasion of privacy. Maybe you should just start asking how to install trojans on people's computers so you can access and delete their files at whim, hmmm?
