Title: Am I getting screwed?
Post by: ziggot on July 18, 2005, 08:22:50 PM
My friend and I were going to move into an apartment in downtown denver, it was pimpin and cheap. Perfect. They said that all you needed was credit with no major bad marks, not a lot of credit.

Today they call me back and say we both failed our credit checks which is bull, because I did that free online credit thing and I have almost perfect credit. Ive never missed a payment on anything.

They said they didnt know why we failed the credit, just that we did. Plenty of employers purposely dont employ army reservists because it is risky with the high deployment rate right now and we can also break leases with no penalty.

are they required to show us what failed us? Any hints/tips?

i dont know alot about this as a kid, but i have heard that checking your credit does something to your score... or perhaps that it just shows up on the report that youve been looking.

your going to take "we don't know why you failed" for an answer? There is a reason their hiding it from you.

Im having the other guy get the free credit check then we are going to decide what to do. Once we have our facts in order we will bring it up with them. I thought this whole thing seemed kind of shady on their side, Im just curious to see if any of you with rental history had any insight. I have a temper and they are about to see it I think.

NEWER credit can be viewed as badly as bad credit. If you simply dno't have much credit, or haven't had it for a length of time, it can be used against you too. Although not giving you credit b/c you have new credit, so in turn you can't establish credit is dumb IMHO.

Sometimes you have to pay to 'apply' to live somewhere.  The money is said to go to a credit check.  I've seen news stories where it's "common" for landlords to show a place and accept the money for the credit check / application thing - and then simply say you failed, or never call you back.

You would think they'd have a copy of your credit report - try to get it from him with comments about what exactly you didn't pass.

yeah, they said they would give us the numbers of the credit agency because apparently they just send the building a yes or no, nothing else. I understand that new credit can be seen as bad credit, seeing as how im 21 and the other guy is 22 there is considerable risk for them statistically.

The real issue I have is that they said they didnt mind new credit SPECIFICALLY. I made sure to ask. They then took our money and immediately called us back with a no. My credit score is 762 about and my friends is 650ish. Those are both more than good enough.

Im just mad at the world. and i want my 40 bucks.

but a leter to the editor in you local news paper. if nothing else someone will read it. Maybe the paper will make a "story" about it. Years from now you my get a small part of you $40 back.
