feh, this post should be a vote! :> I'm FOR the bind of paen, it was fun and made sure slackers didn't waste server space while people who actually wanted to play were frustrated...

you can type 'stopsound' in console to get rid of the in-game music... and I believe there's a plugin called HLAmp or somethin' to listen to music via the HL console... but personally, I never bothered, I don't listen to music in NS because I need to listen for teh footstepz :>

I know redemption is what I get as gorge in a REAL ns game... it only saves me about 25% of the time... but that's probably 15% more frequently than regen or cara saves a gorge...

saltz was bein' quite an effective battlegorge tonight =P was sure whippin' my acid rocket fade's bum... v_v

it's all good in theory... and it CAN be predictable... (I know when I'm on aliens and you're commanding, I always tell my team "ok he's probably telling his team to press here while someone else caps nodes here, so we should have 1 or 2 guys go kill those nodes while the rest of us block them here...") but it's definitely more effective in general than simply saying "ok team, go out and cap nodes" like a lot of people do...

I'm a fan of gold leader's comming, too -- very much like saltz, but instead of breaking the team up into 1 ninja and everyone else, he actually uses squads of like 2 ppl each and sends them off in different directions... also very effective... because the aliens are each alone 80% of the time, unless something strategic is being attacked... so groups of 2+ usually have decent success...

that might be worth considering to counter predictability... switch it up a bit, if you find the aliens seem to know exactly where to counter you...

I'm a nub myself so I don't have many good suggestions... I know that it usually helps to throw in a 'wait' between things if they seem to not be working...

what's the function of having 1 key for forward and jump simultaneously anyway?

since i don't have any concrete answers as I am a nub too -- I'll try to broaden this thread and ask if anyone has any convenient aliases/scripts they'd suggest...

only convenient aliases I have are a +use toggle so I can type/do other things while building/armory humping... and a script to shoot 5 pistol shots rapid-fire, because I got sick of everyone shooting their pistols faster than me =P

btw is this the best alias for that?

alias pist "+attack;wait;-attack;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;+attack;wait;-attack;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;+attack;wait;-attack;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;+attack;wait;-attack;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;+attack;wait;-attack"

esuna, I think the point people are trying to make is not blind hatred for CS:CZ... they're expressing frustration at valve's habit of disappointing us lately.  HL2 delays, buggy steam, ads for and pre-loading of CZ built in, marginalizing of the NS community... so people are saying, "haha, look, they've done it again!  surprise, surprise!  gg valve!"

I'm not even saying this is how I feel, just providing perspective.  personally, I think it's pretty impressive what Valve has released for free over the years, so I'm not particularly upset (though I'm NOT surprised at this latest botch-up).

anyway, the internet makes us ALL loud-mouthed and opinionated.  if we were all apathetic about everything, boards like this would be pretty boring to read. :D

besides, pettily bitching about people's petty bitching shows that you do NOT practice what you preach, so be an example!  be neutral!  as you say they shouldn't play the game if they flame it, so you shouldn't read the thread if you detest it =P

omj stop b0rking computar boxes!

when I think about it, making sandpaper floppies is probably possible... floppies split very easily, and you can prolly take the black disc off the metal spool and put sandpaper on the spool instead...

*contemplates*

now I too need a junk computer to test it on =p we should see how many ways we can b0rk a computer at the same time...

bah, I just typed a rather long post and lost it down the black hole that is the intarweb, when my connection to lm.org got severed :(

so I'll sum it up instead.  Saltz is my favorite com, not just cuzza his impressive win/loss ratio, but because he makes the games more interesting than most comms' straightforward brute force strategies of capping res nodes, saving for a heavy train, rushing/sieging hives...

but Saltz, you're so hard on your teams, even the intelligent members =P of course there's the lamers who never follow orders and always think they know better than the com -- but then there's those of us like myself who have faith in the com and follow orders 90% of the time, but have doubts once in a while, about things like passing up empty res nodes when we're down to our last one... effectively meaning that if whatever offensive we're on fails, we can't afford another... thereby trashing a half hour's worth of effort holding the enemy back...

I'll freely admit you probably know better than most of us... but even if you COULD see everything from that lofty chair, you still can't think of everything with only one head on your shoulders... most of lunixmonster's clientele is reasonably intelligent (compared to most pubs) -- so give us some credit too =P confidence is helpful for a comm since wishy-washy strategies usually fail, but on the other hand, don't treat your team like they're just idiots you're forced to deal with in your evil scheme of map domination :p suffice to say, most of us do our best, and if you want a team that is totally mindless but aims well and follows orders to a fault, I refer you to http://www.rcbot.net/ .

General / Worst Maps For Jetpacks
« on: March 18, 2004, 05:36:25 PM »
sad thing is that the best looking maps are often the worst JP maps -- because it's the jutting out map details that look good but are easy to crash into =p

Agora is nice because it's very aesthetically designed AND has smooth and high enough ceilings...

my top row of keys, 1 thru backspace:

slot1, slot2, slot3, slot4, follow me, I got your back, taunt, medpack, ammo, need orders, alien spotted, let's move out, all clear

all of the voice coms except the last 3 are also alien sounds, so it's good to have those binds for variety :> get sick of hearing just the 'chuckle' and 'taunt'...
