Off Topic / College

If you just wanna be a working schmuck like myself, a standard state school with a solid CompSci program and a good co-op program (co-op programs are a MUST if you be wanting a job or something craz like that after school).

Not exactly sure what the non-bolded part means, but the first part is very well said :p  Exactly where I went, and exactly what I became!

Though: personal experience about college.  I picked my school based on three things...
1) it was about an hour away from home (close enough but not too close)
2) beautiful / SMALL campus (class sizes of 30 tops, with your english speaking prof who knew your name) - and no it wasn't private, it was a small Wisconsin state school.
3) nobody I knew from high school went there (I wanted to start a 'new' and escape from all the old clicks / groups / labels and choose my own path)

Hind sight I chose the school for wrong reasons, but the school fit me very well, and to date I am extremely happy with the decision I made to go there.  I love & miss college.

Off Topic / Foo Fighters/Weezer (or Foozer)
« on: October 11, 2005, 09:41:34 AM »
I never saw the Foo Fighters in concert, but I saw Weezer shortly after their self titled album came out, back in '94 or '95 (gawd, was it THAT long ago??!) at a smaller venue in Minneapolis called First Avenue.  Twas a great show, though time has made me forget most of the details (senility?!)

HOWEVER, forget about Weezer and go see Cake if they happen to pass through your town.  They did a charity show last night in Sacramento at another small venue (800 person capacity) and it was GREAT.  I've been a fan of Cake for years, and seeing them in person was better than I imagined it could be.  I daresay it ranks above my previous 'best concert' which was Metallica - I was so close I got hit in the face with a guitar pick at the end of the show (of course it fell to the ground and some other person stole it from me  <_<)

To say the least, I’m disappointed with the overall mentality displayed within this thread, and throughout LM in general.

I apologize for thinking better of it and sharing my ultrasound pics.  Do most of you even know what an ultrasound is, or what standard ultrasound pictures look like??!  I should have known better.

This is why I’m not around much anymore.

We're at 28 weeks (40 weeks is full term - We're due December 4th), and we went in to get one of those 3D / 4D ultrasounds....

Awesome experience.  The baby was sound asleep for the most part, however he (Note: HE!!!) stretched a time or two, as you can see in the video!

Anyways... just wanted to share <3 <3 <3

I read the headline here, but not the story:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4133388.stm

I check BBC and CNN a few times a day, never saw mention of it on CNN.

Off Topic / Get Perpendicular
« on: August 04, 2005, 05:52:53 PM »
My husband is working towards his Ph.D. in Physics and one of the things he's working with is how hard drive storage works, thin magnetic films, and nanotechnology stuff.

Anyways, one of the things that he's testing / developing / researching (not sure exactly what the word is) is changing how bits are stored on a hard drive.  He's mentioned something about perpendicular media (or something) to me before, but one of the people from his lab found this link from Hitachi.  It was just too funny to pass up.  Very cheesy cartoon, but you do learn stuff from it ;)

note: his group collaborates a lot with hitachi and other major companies - they aren't rivals or anything.

I guess I was too optimistic about where this thread would lead.  I see no reason to leave it open to more jabs and insults.

My evil kitty Jack (and schnapps because Jack isn't cute enough to be in a picture alone.)

Sometimes you have to pay to 'apply' to live somewhere.  The money is said to go to a credit check.  I've seen news stories where it's "common" for landlords to show a place and accept the money for the credit check / application thing - and then simply say you failed, or never call you back.

You would think they'd have a copy of your credit report - try to get it from him with comments about what exactly you didn't pass.

Crazy morning - wow a shower after her water broke - I think I'd be too freaked out!

She seems very happy and healthy and that was what I was wishing for you :)

I didn't think it looked fat - fluffy and fuzzy more than anything.

But I have a question about it's ears.  Do they always stand up?  I mean, from birth?  I ask because I've had 2 boxers - and with boxers you have to go have a vet crop them to make them stand (and less and less people are doing that to their boxers now btw, I guess floppy is 'in' for them) - and then I have my German Shepherd, who had floppy ears until she was a few months old and they gradually stood up on their own.  Corgies are born with the upright ears?

I’ve been waiting to reply so I wasn’t the eldest one in the post… but oh-well.  Hoots is slacking off today.

I am a Minnesota native (Twin Cities area), went to college at UW-River Falls.  In the summer of 2001 I graduated college, got married, and moved to California.  I got a job working here as a database programmer, and my husband started grad school at UC-Davis (working towards his Ph.D. in Physics).

Bought a house in 2002, got a doggie shortly after that (Schnapps, my beloved German Shepherd), and within the past few months found out we are <finally> pregnant!  Baby is due in December of this year  :D

The plan is for my husband to finish up his degree in late 2006, early 2007 and we’ll pack up and move to wherever he gets the best job offering (*fingers crossed for the MN area*)  Plus at that point in time <hopefully> I can officially become a stay at home mommy.    ^_^
