Title: World Wind
Post by: Nooblet on March 17, 2005, 12:40:02 PM
World Wind is a 3D map of the Earth. Using Landsat and Shuttle Radar you are able to zoom in and look at any place on the planet. Also anywhere in the US you can zoom in so far that you can find your house, granted that some of the data is old and outdated. Check it out all the info and the DL can be found here: http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/ (http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/)

Bummer. Would have been fun to look around town with this, but 30m/pixel won't cut it.

I found the place where I work. My house seems to be obscured in some shadow, though. I can see where it should be.

Very cool program. I only wish they had photo images of europe.

its a strange feeling, zooming so close that you can make out the details on your own car.

Extremely cool.  ^_^

How big is your car?  This thing only zooms to a resolution of 15m to a pixle...

The resolution is absolutely horrible for non-USGS urban area ortho-enabled cities. However, in the cities that DO have this special set of photographs, the resolution is incredible - you can, on some occasions, see where people are. :o

Yeah, Baton Rouge has that. Actually, now that I think of it, my mother and sister are in Baton Rouge right now!  :o

Is there something wrong with mine. I seem to zoom into Edmonton and I just get this white screen and A little loading box in the corner pops up every few seconds with the words USGS above it.

You have enabled detailed usgs ortho map, and it's not available for your area.

Only a few of the larger US cities :(

And even then, only parts of the MAJOR cities they acctually have in color (the black and white ortho is a little more expansive)

I want to zoom in and hunt ants in my grass :(

There is no grass outside, it's all snow. That just ruined my whole spring break, why did it have to snow again. It's like winter all over again.
