I like the new friends network, but I have a few gripes:

1) WHY can't I choose not to show my stats?!  Like I want the world knowing how much I stink!!  And I find myself addictively browsing through other people's stats to compare myself against them!  It's going to make me crazy!

2) You can befriend anyone or chat with anyone, but you can't block anyone!

3) It keeps track of my time.  OMG, with as little time as I complain that I don't have... all I have to do is start Steam and have it remind me that I waisted XXX amount of hours playing a damn game!  It makes it hard to lie about how busy I am, lol!

General / TF2 Roles
« on: September 24, 2007, 11:33:53 AM »
I never played TFC, and I don't know how to play most of the roles in TF2.  I was hoping people can use this thread to say what they like playing and any tricks / secrets / strats that they employee.

I've done decent as a medic, basically just following people around and healing!  At least it makes me feel useful!  And when there are already 2 or more medics on a team I play soldier.  I'm not the best soldier, but luckily I'm not the worst either!  I employ the run around and shoot tactic :P

I'd like to be an engineer but I guess I'm not sure what to build where / when!

Lets hear how to play these crazy roles!!! :)

Does that not work for anyone else?  It's random, but more often than not it shows nothing, when I can browse and find new posts from the past day or so.... That's usually how I browse these forums.

It looks GREAT imo.... but it's just a class project (this is not a real movie, but it'd be a good movie were it real!)

I hope they got an A, the real footage is great, and right on as far as the game goes... I wonder where they took it?!

« on: June 21, 2006, 03:04:18 PM »
Since nobody here has posted it yet... have you guys seen Flayra's blog and what he's been up to lately???

I'm not sure how I feel... I guess I'm hoping that the game generates enough $$ to get ns back on track - but currently it's not the money that's needed it's a flipping site!!

Anyways, back to the game.  It played quite nice - similarely to bubblet or bejeweled or any of those popcap games.  Nothing to brag about but nice.  I wouldn't buy the game in general, but for the sheer part of supporting NS I'm pondering it (not that it's expensive).  But another part of me wants to boycott it for other reasons.

I also think it's funny that he's trying to start a sudoku community :p

Jumped and jumped, seemed more like pushed to me... But lets not discuss that here, mod might be interesting, though pretty NSy.

It's no secret that I haven't been around lately... but I'm back at work (literally) and playing NS over lunch, and I'm enjoying it just as much now as I was about a year or so ago when I played regularely.... BUT I'm waaay out of the loop as to what's going on drama wise (and we all know I like drama :p )  Sooooooo what's going on?!

Krissy Wendell - the USA women's hockey captain.  We lived kind of close together and we played softball & volleyball on the same team for a year or two in Jr. High & High School.  My Sophmore year of high school was the first year for women's hockey at my school... I wanted to play soooooo bad, but alas I wasn't able to try out.  My folks would have rathered me play basketball during the winter season (which I refused out of spite) and said hockey was too expensive - not to mention that I couldn't ice skate very well!  But how COOL would it have been to play with an olympian?!

I think she moved back to men's hockey after a year or so of women's anyways though - mens was just more skilled and faster paced (she grew up playing baseball & hockey with the guys).

I went to the olympics in salt lake and got to see her play - it's just so fun & neat to actually know someone (not that we're 'friends' now - but, you know...)

Here's hoping we get the gold - but it'll be tight against canada!

We're at 28 weeks (40 weeks is full term - We're due December 4th), and we went in to get one of those 3D / 4D ultrasounds....

Awesome experience.  The baby was sound asleep for the most part, however he (Note: HE!!!) stretched a time or two, as you can see in the video!

Anyways... just wanted to share <3 <3 <3

My husband is working towards his Ph.D. in Physics and one of the things he's working with is how hard drive storage works, thin magnetic films, and nanotechnology stuff.

Anyways, one of the things that he's testing / developing / researching (not sure exactly what the word is) is changing how bits are stored on a hard drive.  He's mentioned something about perpendicular media (or something) to me before, but one of the people from his lab found this link from Hitachi.  It was just too funny to pass up.  Very cheesy cartoon, but you do learn stuff from it ;)

note: his group collaborates a lot with hitachi and other major companies - they aren't rivals or anything.

General / Friendly Fire Poll, Take Two
« on: April 26, 2005, 12:29:02 PM »
I closed the other topic because we believe the results to be inaccurate.  The question is not about making a permanent change to the Lunixmonster, it is about turning friendly fire off for a week or so to see if the gameplay changes for better or for worse, or doesn’t change at all.  At the end of said trial period we would evaluate and discuss the results (wins / losses / gameplay) and make a more permanent decision from there.

Off Topic / Miss Me?
« on: April 24, 2005, 07:51:33 PM »
April 10th my husband and I went away on a Cruise.  It departed out of San Francisco, and docked in:  Monetary, LA, Catalina Island, Ensenada, San Diego, and then back to San Fran.  Sunday to Sunday cruise.

It was a great time… I didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I had planned to, but here are some that I’ll share.

Below is a picture of our cruise ship (actually taken from Monetary Bay) – it didn’t dock per-say - it stayed where it is in the picture and we took little boats to shore.

Below is a picture of the sunset as we left San Francisco.  And the Golden Gate Bridge.

Basically we sailed at night and woke up each day docked in a different place.  We had to be back on the boat at 5:00 each day to set sail again.  From there it goes 3 miles off shore to international waters so they can open their casino and duty free shops.

The damn casino didn’t have Hold’em – that pissed me off… but I did enter a Black Jack tournament and do much better than I thought I would.  I was the chip leader by far for three rounds, then I got blown out of the water…. Oh well – I was pleased with how I did.

We got off the boat everywhere (you have the option) – went shopping and just walking around everywhere but LA, in LA we went to Universal Studios.  That was great because it was a Wednesday or Thursday and it was completely (and I mean COMPLETELY) empty.  We did the whole theme park in less than 3 hours!

Mexico wasn’t as cheap as I remembered it being.  Most of the stores would barter their prices down a little bit but it seemed like all the little street vendors had the whole price fixing thing going on.  I didn’t get a whole lot there – I was told and it proved to be true that the best place to buy alcohol and such is the town’s grocery store and not the liquor stores on the streets.  I bought 2 big bottles of tequila, 1 big Kahlua, and 4 liter sized bottles of vanilla (cooking vanilla extract stuff – really expensive in the US) for $31.00 total.  Woo!

We got back last Sunday tired as can be.  Called each of our families to share our cruise experiences and such and Joe got some bad news, his grandmother died.  So, bags still unpacked – we found some last minute flights home to Minneapolis.  We lucked out because we both had enough frequent flyer miles to get them for free (otherwise, even with their bereavement fares it’s still like $700 each).

We flew home Tuesday at 6:45 AM and got back to Sacramento around noon today.  We are exhausted!

So, that is what I’ve been up to if you’ve noticed my absence.

Off Topic / Pros and Cons of Tongue Piercing
« on: March 29, 2005, 10:04:03 AM »
It’s something I’ve always wanted to do – and I’ve decided if at the ripe old age of 25 if I’m still THAT curious about it, why the hell not just go do it.  If I hate it I can just take it out – nothing lost but the $50 and the painful recovery days after it gets done, right?

So I’m all but committed to it – but I’m waiting for after my cruise since I guess you need the uber big starter bar in for a month after it gets done (My cruise is mid April.)

I have one specific question:  I (for the life of me) can’t think of what it’s called, my dentist pointed out to me that I have a ‘condition’ for lack of a better word that only 10% of the population has.  I guess the best way to describe it is under my tongue I have two big bumps (bones?)  They stick up to about even with the bottom of my ‘lower’ teeth (so my tongue still can lay flat).  And between the ‘bumps’ is umm well that flap of skin thingie that attaches your tongue and a ‘hole’? that’s just a hair too small for me to poke my index finger into.  I thought everyone’s mouth was the same as mine – and I was fascinated to find out otherwise.  I got to the dentist in a week or two I’ll find out exactly what it’s called (it doesn’t mean anything – it’s just how I am).  Anyways – would a tongue piercing not fit properly into my mouth because of this?

What are your thoughts about that and the whole tongue piercing in general?
