This one bakery in town did it for their 10th anniversary, 'it' being a record for the most lit candles on a cake :p

One big cake!
The numerical candles stating there are 25,625

Then we got to the fun part and bunch of people lit it, then it kinda spread by itself. :p
Fire!

After all was said and done...
The parking lot got waxed.
and the cake...
...was rather toasty.

I was thinking of past games today and wondered if anyone had stories to tell of things that have been done that are highly out of the ordinary.

To start off I have a tale of the field-protolab.

The whole team was marching to a hive with hmgs, shotguns and GLs when the proto finished researching (forget if it was JP or HA). Now, rather than beaconing to equip us which would have wasted time and perhaps caused worse things, the comm dropped a new protolab right there about 50 feet from the hive, we powerbuilt it in about 3 seconds, he spammed equipment for us, and we downed the hive in an instant to the dismay of the aliens who were in no way expecting prototyped marines. :p

General / I win hide-n-seek

So we were doing hide-n-seek on altair for RS night. MrBill didn't know that the comm was supposed to get MT, then run around with default weapons and hunt aliens. So like he spams all the starting res on mines, and runs off with the rest of the people. I rant at him and then get stuck waiting in MS for res to build the obs and get MT.
By the time MT was going I didn't have enough time to find what a "good" spot in the map, so I said screw it, and hid behind the obs in the corner facing the wall:



Turns out this was the best spot ever. All the other marines were dead before the half-way point. A skulk casually ran through MS quickly looking around. Later a gorge and lerk came by and actually looked around a bit, even standing near the CC alcove. Finally the lerk came back yet again, near the alcove. All the while the whole team is laughing their ass off over voicecomm at the hilartity of it. :p I lasted without being found nearly to the end, at which point I crashed.

So in short: "good" spots = lews. "screw it" spots = winnar.

I declare myself the hide-n-seek champ :p

While testing various features of Source mapping in my little testing map I discovered that the crossbow bolts bounce/ricochet if they hit with a low enough angle. Teh H5x

Off Topic / Grenade secondary fire in HL2

I accidently happened across this last night in Garry's Mod, I was flipping through the weapons hitting secondary fire to check out the new menus in the latest version, and I accidently did this on the grenade, and lo, gordon pulled the pin and gentley rolled the nade about 4 feet away on the ground

I was shocked, I had always wanted a way in games to just drop a nade when retreating rather than flinging it hard as possible. Now here HL2 has this and I played through the entire thing without ever noticing this, I guess I was too accustomed to only one thing to do with nades.

So my question is, how many of you knew you could do this in HL2? :ph34r:

Off Topic / Strangest feeling in your life.

As I was leaving the store today with my shiny new hard drive there was this most amazing sunset across the whole entire sky. There was none or very little wind so the clouds were not moving, and the fact that over half the sky was tinted pink (sun-side near total pink, other mainly gray, with varying amounts between) made the sky look like a painting. It did not look like a sky.

This 'flatness' of the sky made me feel exactly like I was inside a video game with a 2D skybox.
Most erie, strange, skin-tingling feeling evar. :ph34r: o_O


Anyone else have similar tales to tell of odd feelings?

Off Topic / Help with HDD/OS stuffs.

Well I am going to be getting a new 10k RPM drive today in a few hours with my christmas money, my old drive being I think 5400 RPM (at most).

I've read that it is faster to have the OS on a seperate drive from everything else, however will it actually make any difference since it would be going on such a slow drive? Would I be just as well off to put it all on my new one?

...untill b6 comes out. I have finally become too pissed off at the game and the players to play anymore, and have thus moved to other things for now. I've told ChanServ not to op me upon joining the channel so maybe I'll go unnoticed there. Also I may be on the server for a few minutes if I am in the mood to 'test the water' and may or may not be smurfing, in any case don't expect any adminage from me unless it is something extremely serious.

So we were on ns_caged, aliens had just got the 3rd hive, someone had sneaked off to vent and got a phase up, we then rushed and killed the hive after which we all were slaughtered.

Aliens are now down to two hives for the moment and we are alamoing in marine start. After much yelling at scooter he finally gives me a welder (apparently he wasn't paying attention to textchat :p), and after failing to get human laddered into the MS vent I get dropped a pack of mines which I get along with a fallen shotgun and work my way into the vent. At the corner I meet a skulk who promptly gets some buckshot in the face. Scooter dropps a CC just outside the vent in upper sewer which I build, I drop an IP in the vent at the vertical section, build that, and weld myself in.

Marine start had already begun to fall while I was doing this and everyone was soon respawning in our little fort. Someone mentions that greenground is out in purification station so I get in the CC through the closed vent (ogm aboos D: [but it lead to much fun >_>]) and drop green an armory followed by an obs and arms lab. My CC dies before I get around to beaconing and green wanders off and dies after awhile.

We are now locked in the vent with armor 2 and weapons 3 (aliens never did find the sekrat upgrade outpost). We hold our ground for about 10 minutes killing skulks and fades after which we begin boosting ourselves up the vent and back towards MS. All this time we had been keeping my welder alive to weld the IP. At one point near the end we alllllllmost got out into MS but were 1 player short for the ladder. Shortly after this the aliens finally figure out they can take care of us with a train of fades, of which we killed 3 or 4.

All total we lasted about 15-20 minutes I think and got around 75-80 res from the kills. All the marines were having great fun along with most of the aliens as far as I could tell given there wasn't any complaining. (*cough*except for rad*cough*:p)

Finally, pix of our fort! (game ended around the 48 min mark, these were taken somewhere in the first half of our endeavor)
